It can be difficult to find a parking space in the popular destination on a busy summer day.

And now tourists will have to pay even more for their stay, whether they choose on-street or multi-level parking.

Local opposition councilor Diane Mitchell has slammed the 'poor decision' amid fears it will harm businesses in the area.

“Businesses in the area around Bond Street and Waterloo Road are already experiencing parking issues,” she said BBC.

“This will only make the situation worse and drive business away from our brilliant local businesses, B&Bs and shops.”

Prices will increase in Talbot Road and West Street car parks, along the Promenade and in parts of South Shore.

Blackpool Council claims they are using the extra money to improve parking facilities.

The price for sought-after city center parking will increase to £4.50, while an eight-hour stay will cost as much as £12.

Meanwhile, on the Promenade, Watson Road and Bond Street, visitors must spend £3 for two hours.

Council officials claimed they will only increase rates in the most popular areas to meet demand.

And a brand new multi-storey car park will be opened to the public by Easter to accommodate more visitors.

A council report said more money would allow them to “upgrade” existing parking facilities.

It said: “Any large-scale increase at this point is likely to result in a decline in patronage and could damage city center trading plans and tourism recovery.”

The Sun contacted Blackpool Council for comment.

It's because other resorts have suffered the same price increases.

Residents of Whitstable, Kent, have been hitting proposed new parking rates as 'crazy'.

The controversial new plans could see hourly rates rise from £1.60 to £3.70.

This would make it the most expensive part of the Kent coast for motorists looking for it parking.

Meanwhile, locals live in another popular seaside destination were furious about a 300 percent increase in parking rates.

Parking on the coast Brighton and Hove, East Sussexwill rise from £1.40 per hour to a whopping £5.60 per hour.

Residents have accused town hall bosses of “daylight robbery” and “shocking greed” in the midst of a cost of living crisis.

They say the increases are “appalling profiteering” which will prevent disabled, elderly and less wealthy people from enjoying the resort.

Plus, say homeowners who live in a beautiful coastal town it is ruined by ridiculous parking rules and lots of tourists.

a Northumberland beach was voted one of the best in Britain by De Tijden in 2022 but now parking costs have been introduced at the beauty spot.

Elsewhere, locals have staked their claim village will become a ghost town thanks to their municipality's proposed parking rules.
