A British backpacker almost bled to death after being stabbed in the neck with a broken bottle in a bar.
Hugo Mooney said he was attacked by a man he tried to stop from harassing a girlfriend – and that he “would be dead” if a holiday doctor had not stopped the blood flow.
Harrowing footage shows Hugo lying bloodied on the floor of the bar as his friends and onlookers tried to stop the bleeding from his neck.
Hugo was drinking with his friends when a fight broke out in the Bamboo Bar on the 'Full moon party'island of Koh Pha Ngan on January 28.
Hugo from Bristol went on to hospital Thailand's Koh Pha Ngan Island.
He claims the next one day Police removed him without a doctor's permission and placed him in a room with his alleged attacker.
He said: “It was only 14 hours after he tried to kill me.
'I thought they wanted me to make a deal with him.
“I kept saying, 'I don't care moneyI want him in jail'.”
His Thai friend Chanjira Witthayabumrung claimed the suspect “paid police” must be released.
The investigating officer, Police Lieutenant Patcharapol Wanghin from Koh Pha Ngan Police Station said: “The investigation into the attack continues.
“It will move forward according to the law. We need both sides of the issue so that it is fair for everyone. There is no corruption.”
