Meet Cassius Taylor, the ‘bad boy’ Royal who is more likely to DJ in the shadows than wave from the Palace balcony. (Although he’s a bit of a mama’s boy at heart…)

As 45th in line to the throne, Cassius Taylor has had slightly more freedom than some of his royal relatives.

Cassius, who turns 27 today, is the grandson of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, the late queen’s cousin.

These days, however, he is less likely to appear in group photos on the balcony of Buckingham Palace and more likely to appear in sunglasses on social media – often at the opening of some artistic venture – or as a DJ at a party.

This makes sense as Cassius is the son of Lady Helen Taylor, 59, and art dealer Timothy Taylor – and like Princess Margaret’s children and grandchildren, is a signed up member of the royal family’s creative wing.

He has He’s even become a darling of the London art scene, turning his first tattoo into a whimsical art exhibition.

Like other more distant members of the royal family, Cassius, born in 1996, has had the opportunity to grow up away from the spotlight.

As a child he made rare public appearances, including on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for Trooping the Colour.

The second of four children, Cassius grew up working closely with his brother Columbus, 29, and his younger sisters Eloise, 20, and Estella, 18.

He was educated at Wellington College in Berkshire, which costs £35,775 a year, before going to Goldsmiths, where he gained a degree in arts management.

He caught the creative bug from his parents, both renowned art dealers, and said, “As a child I was constantly dragged to galleries.”

After graduating, he worked for his father’s London gallery before joining PR agency Purple, where he worked in the events industry and organized glitzy receptions at Somerset House.

He eventually left Purple PR and started his own events company called ‘Telltale’.

The royal family has since put together its own show, which took place at the Painting Rooms of Flitcroft Street in Soho, celebrating the work of painter Armen Eloyan as part of Frieze.

In his spare time, Cassius is a big fan of immersive theater, especially an event called Punch Drunk, where guests are invited to don VR headsets in an abandoned warehouse in London while actors move around participants.

He also shares glimpses into his artsy life on Instagram, where photos show him DJing with friends or hanging out with his glamorous cousins, Lady Amelia Windsor and Flora Vesterberg (granddaughter of Princess Alexandra, sister of the Duke of Kent). .

Cassius previously joked that he is the “annoying” kid and added that he needed some time to settle into a career as he couldn’t decide which genre to dedicate himself to.

The young royal, born in 1996, also appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony with the Queen Mother, centre, in 2001 as part of the Queen’s birthday celebrations.

He told Tatler: ‘I always knew that, because of my upbringing, I would somehow end up in the creative industry, just like everyone else in my family.’

For all his love of parties, Cassius often photographed accompanying his mother, with whom he is close, to a range of events, including royal functions.
