Aussie fumes over insane price for a can of coke at Bondi restaurant – but the owners say there’s a perfect explanation

A woman was left fuming after being charged more than $6 for a can of Coke at a popular beachside restaurant.

Francesca was left stunned by the costs after visiting the takeaway kiosk on Promenade Bondi Beach, in Sydney‘s eastern suburbs, with a friend on May 26.

She shared a photo of her receipt with Facebook which revealed that they had been charged $6.60 for a 250ml can of Coke Zero and $9.35 for a 300ml bottle of Tropi Cool juice.

The total bill was $16.19, with Francesca pointing out that it also included a 24 cent handling fee.

A spokesperson for Promenade Bondi Beach quickly clarified the matter, saying Francesca had been charged the wrong price and given a refund.

‘Jesus wept! What the hell is going on? This is unbelievable… a takeaway kiosk and not even a real big can of Coke!’ said Francesa.

Francesca said she couldn’t find a menu with the prices of the drinks.

“I just expected it to cost the same as what it would normally cost if you get drinks from somewhere – no more than $10,” she said. Yahoo.

Francesca said she immediately asked the staff if they had made a mistake.

The unhappy customer and her friend requested a refund, which was provided by the venue.

“I honestly couldn’t believe that price, especially since you didn’t even get a real big can of Coke!” said Francesca.

Hundreds of social media users said they were not surprised by the high costs.

“Welcome to the eastern suburbs, you pay $6 plus for a terrible coffee,” one person wrote.

“Daylight robbery,” another added.

Others defended the price, saying Francesca should have thought about how much the drinks would cost before buying them.

“Next time BYO (Bring Your Own) water if you can’t afford it,” one person wrote.

“Check the menu beforehand so you won’t complain later,” chimed in another.

A spokesperson for Promenade Bondi Beach told Daily Mail Australia the customer had been charged the wrong amount for the drink.

“One of our guests purchased two drinks at the Promenade Bondi Beach kiosk, including a 250ml can of Coke Zero, and due to a staff member error, an incorrect price level was accidentally applied to the Coke Zero,” he said.

‘When the error was discovered, the guest was given a full refund for both drinks and an apology for the error from the venue’s general manager.’

A 250ml can of Coke Zero sold at the kiosk will cost customers $4.

The company also does not charge service fees for customers who purchase items at the kiosk.

Francesca said that while she understood that food and drink prices at the venue were expensive, she was still baffled by the costs.

“I understand it’s in a place where they have to pay high rent etc, and it’s on the beach, but I’ve lived in Bondi for four years and always get drinks from places like that,” she said.

She claimed she was not told about the administration charge when she ordered the drinks, and said she did not understand why she had to pay the extra charge if she ordered takeaway.

Daily Mail understands that no handling fee has been charged and the charge will only be applied to guests ordering food and drinks into the venue.

The correct price was charged for the bottle of juice.

The kiosk, which is open from 6.30am to 3pm, serves hot and cold drinks, as well as other popular lunchtime snacks including fish and chips.

According to the Promenade Bondi Beach website, non-alcoholic drinks at the food bar and beach bar cost between $8 and $15.
