But he was hastily reinstated – after SunSport informed RFU chiefs of their blunder.

George led the Red Rose for the first time in England's first Six Nations 27-24 victory over Italy.

Tomorrow he will captain against Wales again.

George said he expected to be “very emotional” as he led England out for a match at Twickenham for the first time.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “It's huge. It's a dream come true.

“To be at Twickenham, singing the national anthem and that strike will be a very emotional moment for me.”

However, things have not been rosy for England at Twickenham in recent years.

Their last match at the 82,000 capacity stadium was a World Cup warm-up defeat to Fiji.

And that came five months after England lost to France with a 53-10 record.

But George believes they can bring back the good times if the team submits ideas to improve the atmosphere on site.

Speaking about his first game as captain at Twickenham, he said: 'I think it's special that it's against Wales. The first thing that comes to mind is the history of the competition.

“Our recent record at Twickenham was poor and we have been very vocal about how we want Twickenham to be great again, so we have a responsibility to do that and what a privilege that is.

“Usually on Monday we have a tactical meeting about rugby, but… [head coach] Steve [Borthwick] We parked that for a moment this week to talk about the chance we have of being back home against Wales, and we touched on the emotion.

“Then the seniors took over, which was great.

These ideas are both in and out of sight, with one including a longer fan walk through the west parking lot to the locker rooms and more personal messages with their locker room pegs.

George added: “We extended the walk [to the stadium] out and there have been changes in the dressing room which will hopefully make a difference to the team.”
