Kane said of William on Monday: “He loves it. I think he’s going to try to come out for some games if the schedule allows. He is a big football fan.

‘I think he’s made that quite clear by looking at Aston Villa and now looking at England. He will keep an eye on them.

‘His children are clearly big fans now too. They will remember their first and second tournaments just like I did when I was younger.

“He will keep in touch, especially with the manager and some of the players, and make sure we do well.”

Kane was speaking after William visited the team at St George’s Park to wish them good luck. He shared Prince Louis’ advice to ‘eat twice as much’ during their bid for Euro 2024 glory.

William traveled to the England National Football Center in Burton upon Trent to meet the squad and head coach Gareth Southgate.

Addressing the players, the Prince said: ‘I was at school with the children this morning and said: ‘What shall I say to the England team today?’.

‘The best advice I could ask you was to eat twice as much as you would normally eat.

“So I then had visions of you all running around with huge bellies and loads of stitches on the pitch, so I guess I might have to take my youngest’s advice with a pinch of salt.”

Kane jokingly said of Louis’ advice, “We have to be careful with that.” I don’t think our nutritionist will be happy about that.’

Heir to the throne William was there to present shirts to each of the 26 players selected for the Euro 2024 squad and hear from Southgate about their preparations for the tournament.

The prince shook Southgate’s hand and noted how “within a few hours” the team was “getting ready to leave” for Germany.

William said: “Tournament football is a big deal. You all had great seasons, I watched you all play this season.

“As some of you know far better than anyone in this room, tournament football is cruel. It requires much more than you have already given.

‘It’s going to be hard, it’s going to be fun, it’s going to be a challenge, it’s going to be everything you ever dreamed of wearing that England shirt

‘You are a unit, you fight for each other, you play for each other’.
