Half-time analysis

Let’s see what SunSport’s Graham Hill makes of the first half:

MANCHESTER United could and should have dropped this draw in the first half.

Erik ten Hag’s side created a series of chances, but they were denied by the woodwork and recalled American goalkeeper Matt Turner of Forest.

Antony returned to the starting line-up and hit the crossbar with a shot from the edge of the penalty area with less than four minutes on the clock.

Turner – who had a miserable game against United when the sides met in the Premier League in December – made two saves from headers from Scott McTominay.

Marcus Rashford still had time to establish his position from the edge of the penalty area, but his shot sailed over the crossbar.

Forest should have been out, but they have taken heart from the fact that they can still suspect a place in the quarter-finals, where Liverpool or Southampton await.

Taiwo Awoniyi looked increasingly dangerous as the half progressed, while ex-United striker Anthony Elanga and former Liverpool striker Divock Origi started to come into the game.

Ten Hag’s frustrations grew towards the end of the half – and he was given a lecture by referee Chris Kavanagh – presumably for something said by the Dutchman – but it was nothing more than that.
