Firefighters injured in Grenfell Tower fire settle £20 million compensation claim

FIREFIGHTERS injured in the Grenfell Tower blaze have settled compensation claims totaling £20 million, it emerged yesterday.

The Fire Brigade Union led by Matt Wreck – said some of the 114 involved in the approach the inferno of 2017 has not been able to work since then due to “severe trauma”.

Some also suffered personal injuries.

Defendants in the High Court case included companies that made the tower block's cladding, and the Royal Borough of Kensington And Chelsea.

The fire at the West London tower block killed 72 people.

A public inquiry is expected to publish a report later this year.

Vincent Reynolds, from law firm Thompsons, said: “The Grenfell Tower fire left an indelible impression on the firefighters who responded to the call.

“Many carry the psychological scars of that night, as they struggle with trauma from the harrowing experience.

“Their experiences highlight the human element of firefighting and underscore their dedication to their duty despite the enormous risks and emotional toll.

“We hope this settlement provides some sort of closure for these firefighters, although we know the injuries for many will last a lifetime.”
