“What’s wrong with a bowl of Frosties?” Five Star Kitchen viewers stunned by contestant’s bizarre breakfast combo — including an egg dusted in SCORPION POWDER

Channel 4’s new cooking competition show has left a sour taste in viewers’ mouths after showcasing bizarre ingredients such as scorpion powder in breakfast dishes.

The third episode of Five Star Kitchen, which aired Thursday at 8 p.m., tasked three contestants to create a signature breakfast tray during a cook-off to fight for their place in the competition.

The chefs and entrepreneurs were tasked with creating the trays that reflect what their restaurants will look like should they ever open their own establishments.

But when the contestants revealed the details of their extravagant menus, which included melon gazpacho, eggs benedict with rum and raisin bacon, and eggs dusted with the powder, viewers weren’t convinced.

They posted on Twitter their thoughts on using the bizarre ingredient and said they would not order a dish seasoned with it.

Viewers of this week’s episode of Five Star Kitchen on Channel 4 weren’t convinced by contestant Lara’s use of scorpion powder on a breakfast dish

At the start of the challenge, contestants Lara, Dom, and Raquel were tasked with preparing a lavish breakfast suitable for guests at a luxury hotel that would showcase what kind of food guests could expect from their restaurant.

When they started, presenter Michel Roux Jr, who has three Michelin stars, said: ‘Breakfast is probably the most important meal in a hotel like this. It is the lasting memory. It is the last plate of food you may serve to your guest

“If you’re wrong, they might go elsewhere.”

With three hours to serve their breakfast dishes, the chefs set to work in the kitchen of the Palm Court Hotel.

And Lara’s breakfast dish immediately raised eyebrows when she explained the use of the unconventional ingredient.

She described her breakfast dish as consisting of flatbread with beetroot hummus, a melon gazpacho, and a “deconstructed shakshuka,” which contained all the spices of the traditional Middle Eastern dish of fried eggs—but the egg poached in the shell seasoned with scorpion powder.

Lara explains the use of the powder and said it gave an “earthy” taste to the dish.

She said, “I’m going to sprinkle it on my egg to try and introduce bugs into good food.”

Lara added, “To me, a kitchen is a playground. You open the doors to create.

‘I have the feeling that good food lacks the fun.’

But viewers weren’t convinced and took to Twitter to voice their dissatisfaction with the recipe.

One person wrote, “What’s wrong with a bowl of Frosties?”

Another stated, “I’ll only try scorpion powder if there’s a poison unit nearby.”

And one viewer, who didn’t think the ingredient generally paired well with a breakfast dish, asked, “But can you sprinkle scorpion powder over a bowl of rice krispies?”

As Lara presented her dish, judges Roux Jr, Ravneet Gill and Mike Reid were also unconvinced by the scorpion powder.

Roux Jr said, “I like the egg,” but added, “I’m not sure if the scorpion powder did much or added much to the flavor.”
