Frenchette Bakery moves to the Whitney Museum

A flagship location for French bakery will open at the Whitney Museum of American Art, replacing the Danny Meyer restaurant Untitled, which closed at the start of the pandemic.

In a statement, the museum said it was “reinventing its food and beverage program” for its ground-floor restaurant space.

Riad Nasr and Lee Hanson, owners of the Frenchette and Le Rock restaurants, opened their first Frenchette Bakery in TriBeCa in 2020, taking over the former Arcade Bakery. Since then, Frenchette Bakery has made loaves, viennoiserie, sandwiches and pizzettes. The menu at the Whitney location includes both sweet and savory dishes, breakfast, lunch, takeout and a variety of beverages.

The Whitney envisions the new restaurant as a meeting space to connect with museum visitors and the surrounding neighborhood, the meatpacking district. Plans are still in the development phase.
