Portable hot water bottle straps are available on Amazon for as little as £10 and customers there are even better off than the non-portable version.

The product is getting rave reviews on Amazon, with one person writing: “This is perfect for everyone, it can be worn around the stomach or on the back and focuses the heat where you need it.

Another agreed, simply writing: “Easy to use. Doesn't leak. Looks good. Fits well.”

And the hot water bottle belt was also a hot topic of discussion for Facebook users when they commented on a post promoting the gadget.

One said: “That's what I want,” while another said: “Omg I need this, we both have it.”

The belt is not only great for keeping warm, but also has a sweet design and has the face of a koala with the straps that tie around the body like arms.

This isn't the only winter hack that recently made the news.

Earlier this month we told how a beloved retail chain is selling a winter must-have that fun shoppers are calling 'fabulous'.

The thermal mattress cover has been labeled a 'winter essential' due to its incredible ability to keep people warm all night long.

The Silentnight Supersoft Thermal Mattress Cover is sold at The Range for a bargain price and contains an ultra-thick teddy fleece fabric for the best possible night's sleep during the chilly evenings.

The product description online says: “Stay warm and cozy during the colder months with this Silentnight Supersoft Thermal Mattress Cover.

Ways to save on your energy bill

While a huge energy bill may sometimes seem unavoidable, there are some ways to soften the blow.

1. Switch to solar lighting outside

As sunnier days approach, turning off outdoor lights and using solar lights will help reduce energy bills.

2. Close the curtains at night

Close your curtains in the evening when the temperature drops. This will help insulate your home and prevent heat from escaping.

This means you don't have to turn on the heating as quickly.

Be sure to open the blinds in the morning, especially on sunny days, as the glass will act as a greenhouse and help heat your home.

3. Use the residual oven heat to cook

Ovens stay hot immediately after you turn them off. This means you can turn them off up to 10 minutes before the food is ready, letting the residual heat do the work for you.

However, don't take any chances with food and make sure it is piping hot and thoroughly cooked before eating.

4. Do not open the oven when it is in use

After turning on the oven and placing your food inside, do not attempt to open the door. This lowers the temperature and causes the appliance to use extra energy to bring the temperature back up, and also adds time to cooking your meal, costing you more.

5. Spring cleaning

Limescale can cost as much as £468 a year due to extra energy consumption.

However, you can help dissolve the deposits with a mild, acidic cleaning.

6. Block drafts

According to the Energy Saving Trust, preventing heat from escaping through drafts can save £30 a year on your energy bills.

Draft stoppers for under £5 are readily available on Amazon, especially the ones you attach to doors. Or you can also make them match your interior or style. We found a cute sausage dog excluder for £4 at Hobbycraft.
