Adorable golden dachshund puppy dies during first day at training school after incident involving bernedoodle

A golden dachshund puppy tragically died on her first day at a California obedience school, after being left unattended with a much larger dog.

Olive was just a 9-week-old puppy when she started her first day at Prime Paw in San Francisco.

Owner Chloe Skelly said she chose the school in the Mission District because of the rave reviews and the staff who reassured her that her beloved pet was in good hands.

After dropping the puppy off at school in May, less than three hours later she received a call telling her to go to an animal hospital immediately.

Speak with KRON4Skelly said: “They wouldn’t tell me what happened. When I arrived at the SPCA, an employee told me that Olive had been playing with a 25-pound Bernedoodle puppy unsupervised.”

Skelly said the employee told her that the staff did not know what had happened and that no one had seen it.

It wasn’t until Olive screamed in pain and crawled into a corner that they noticed her “immediate lethargy.”

She added: ‘When they went to check Olive they said she was not breathing and had no heartbeat or pulse.

‘The employee then immediately took Olive to a vet, but she had already died.’

An autopsy confirmed that Olive died of a pneumothorax, or collapsed lung due to blunt force trauma.

Skelly said this was “presumably a direct correlation to him being hit by this other, much larger dog.” She said the vet also found signs of internal bleeding.

According to Skelly, the school shared a video on their social media of Olive with a cut on her back, which she said was not there when she left.

The grieving owner fully blames Prime Paw for Olive’s death and has consulted lawyers about legal action. However, because she signed a waiver, she cannot sue them.

“She was my first puppy who should have had more years with me,” Skelly said. ‘I only had ten days. We were both taken way too soon.”

“I am heartbroken that her little life was cut short so short and so negligently. It’s not fair.’

In a statement to KRON4, James Baybayan, owner of Prime Paw, expressed his condolences over Olive’s sudden passing.

Baybayan said: “We are heartbroken by the tragic death of a puppy named Olive. Vets discovered that Olive had a pneumothorax – a collapsed lung – but there were no signs of any trauma.

“Based on the determination of the veterinarians who received Olive, there is no apparent reason for her death.”

The company website describes them as a dog training center in San Francisco with a positive, science-based approach.

According to Prime Paw, they have safely cared for thousands of dogs over the past nine years. This is the first reported fatality at their facility.

In a statement to DailyMail.com, Skelly made it clear that she does not want to cause the owner any trouble. Instead, she wants to raise awareness so that the same situation doesn’t happen to other pet owners.

“I would like it to be known that I do not want to ruin this man’s life by the story that is being shared. “All I wanted was for him to take responsibility so we can move forward,” Skelly said. “The story was shared to hopefully save other puppies from the same fate and other puppy parents from the same sadness I have felt all week.”
