Heat pumps are a clean energy source that ensures more efficient and cleaner heating of homes.

Previously, a home improvement grant of £7,500 was only provided if the resident had insulation – which can cost up to £2,500.

This requirement now no longer exists, meaning families can save that money.

Since homeowners will have extra cash, it should be easier for them to switch from gas boilers in a way that works for them while still reducing emissions.

A spokesperson said: “Yes, they had to be eligible to apply and having insulation was part of that.

“We expect the new regulations to come into effect in the coming months.”

It comes as Energy Security Minister Claire Coutinho is pushing back against recent price increases by boiler manufacturers.

She has appealed to the Competition and Markets Authority
(CMA) to assess the sector.

This follows from government proposals to introduce the Clean Heat Market Mechanism (CHMM) – a market incentive aimed at introducing more heat pumps.

Coutinho has postponed the implementation of CHMM until April 2025 to protect consumers.

She said: “We’ve already supported families by making our boiler upgrade program one of the most generous in Europe and now we’re making heat pumps even cheaper and easier to make.
to install.

“This is all part of our wider plan to ensure we reduce our emissions and make homes more energy efficient without burdening families with high costs.”
