But Steve Clarke’s men are focused on success and the national team will also have the support of the Tartan Army, who will be in Munich in their thousands for Friday’s opening match against Germany.

Many will travel without tickets as the Scottish FA were only allocated 10,000. Fans have been warned to be alert to ticket sales scams.

Supporters have also been warned by German intelligence of an increased threat of terrorist attacks.

German support for Israel is thought to have made attacks more likely.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: ‘There is a significant threat worldwide of a terrorist attack affecting British interests and British nationals, including from groups and individuals who view British and British nationals as targets.’
