I proposed – but our dog said yes before my horrified girlfriend had a chance

An excited dog stole the spotlight in these engagement photos after jumping up to “accept” the ring from her owner before the giggling girlfriend had a chance to say “yes.”

Vicky Jones, from Plymouth, Devon, was stunned when her boyfriend Josh Stewart got down on one knee last month on May 28 and popped the question as they walked their pet Breeze along a beach.

But before the bride-to-be had a chance to reply, the elated Dalmatian cross leapt on her hind legs toward the ring as if to accept the proposal herself.

Not content with stealing the spotlight during the proposal, the 11-year-old attention-loving canine also photobombed the 33-year-old couple’s engagement snaps.

Vicky says she was too caught up in the moment to notice her rescue dog’s rambunctious behavior — but she had a good laugh when she looked back at the photos later.

The catering company manager says Breeze and fiancé Josh have a great relationship, which can be seen in the snaps taken at Toko Mouth Beach, Glenledi in New Zealand.

Vicky said, “The proposal was very unexpected. Apparently he was planning it for a few months and everyone knew about it except me. When he asked the question, I said yes, but the dog clearly said yes for me.

“Apparently dogs sense things more than humans do [she was right]. I was in shock and thought, “What’s going on?” So the dog led the way in that situation. I don’t know if she thought the ring was a stick or a treat, she is very food oriented.

She jumped up as soon as he got down on one knee, she was so excited. I didn’t recognize the dog was there because I was so in the moment.

But luckily it’s so funny to look back at the pictures and see her play the fool like she usually does. We just laughed so hard because it’s something she would always do. She is always the center of attention.

“She’s close to my fiancee. When I’m not home, she nestles against him. She’s just such a funny dog. She has a permanent smile on her face. I’m very lucky to have her, she’s a great dog.’

While the happy couple has yet to set a date for their wedding, Vicky claims they are considering giving Breeze the role of ring bearer at the ceremony.

Vicky, who has been in a relationship with merchandiser Josh for over three years, said: “I’d like her to be a ring bearer at the wedding, or [at least] just be involved with all the pictures.

“As long as we have a treat at the end of the aisle, she’ll definitely come to us. She especially likes the attention.’
