An Idaho man has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary after he broke into a neighbor’s home and fatally shot four people, including a minor, prosecutors said Tuesday.

The man, Majorjon Kaylor, 31, of Kellogg, Idaho, was arrested Sunday night shortly after the shooting, according to a rack of the Idaho State Police. Kellogg is a town of about 2,300 people in the state’s northern panhandle, near the Coeur d’Alene National Forest.

A judge ordered that Mr. Kaylor, who popped up in court on Tuesday, are being held at the Shoshone County Jail.

The Shoshone County hotline received an 911 call about 7:20 p.m. Sunday indicating that several people had been fatally shot at a residence in the 500 block of West Brown Avenue, police said. Officers arrested Mr. Kaylor on the spot.

It was not immediately clear what prompted the shooting, but investigators said they believe it happened after an argument between neighbors.

At Tuesday’s hearing, Shoshone County Prosecutor Benjamin Allen said the crime was committed in a “horrific manner.”

A Shoshone County judge read out the names of the victims as Kenneth Guardipee, Kenna Guardipee, Devin Smith and an unnamed minor, according to The associated press.

Lisa Chesebro, a lawyer for Mr Kaylor, declined to comment on the allegations on Tuesday. Mr. Kaylor has not pleaded. Another hearing is scheduled for July 3.

“This is a tragic situation that will affect the Kellogg community,” Idaho State Police Lieutenant Paul Berger said in a press release Monday.
