But TJ believes there is no need to be afraid, as these entities may be lost loved ones making their presence known in times of need.
She added: ‘Another common reason for a haunted house, if you will, is the previous occupants of the house or the land it is built on.’
Regardless, many remain terrified of ghosts and spirits.
To calm people’s minds, TJ Higgs has unveiled a series of tips to help homeowners understand if ghosts are occupying their home.
From unusual movements in the house to chills and unusual sounds, TJ covers all the bases.

Unexplained noises or voices
As horror movies suggest, one of the most common signs of a haunted house is hearing unexplained noises and voices.
Whether it’s footsteps, whispers, banging sounds or even intense conversations, TJ warns people to pay attention to the sounds.
‘Pay close attention to the timing and frequency of these sounds. If they happen consistently, they’re trying to get your attention,” TJ said.
‘This does not mean negative; your loved ones could just be more persistent, so you know they are there and supporting you.”
The clairvoyant gave a very simple way to stop the events: by acknowledging them.
She explained: ‘Electronic voice phenomena (EVP) are sounds that appear on electronic recordings and are interpreted as ghost voices.
“If you heard them whispering, put on a recording device, your cell phone will do, introduce yourself and ask if anyone wants to communicate.”
Disturbing sensations
When a ghost takes up residence in a house, the residents may experience eerie and disturbing feelings.
TJ explained, “If you often experience cold spots, sudden chills, or the feeling of being watched or touched, this could be an indication of paranormal activity.
“Trust your instincts and pay attention to any unusual feelings you have when you are in the house.”
The psychic medium added that these sensations often occur when individuals move into a new home, as “residual energy” of a spirit is common.
She concluded: ‘Again, a family member or loved one could be creating these sensations.
“For example, if you’ve lost a beloved pet and you feel cold or chilly in their favorite place, especially around your feet, they’re letting you know they’re home.”
Objects that move on their own
Then TJ warned about another classic sign that a house is haunted: objects that mysteriously move on their own.
“This can manifest itself in the form of doors opening or closing on their own, furniture shifting or items being lost,” she explained.
TJ advised those experiencing unusual movements to consider installing cameras or recording equipment to track and record potential energy.
She added that ghosts also have the ability to manipulate electrical energy, meaning flickering lights can also be a sign that a ghost is present.
She said: ‘If you often experience flickering lights, appliances turning on or off for no reason, or batteries running out quickly, this could be a sign of the presence of ghosts.
‘Make sure there are no logical explanations for these faults, such as faulty wiring or old appliances.
‘If you experience this, especially after a recent death, ask the spirit’s name and say, “If that’s you, please do it again.”
TJ explained a recent event in her own life where she used her own advice.
“The other day I was at my friend Charlotte’s house, the doorbell rang, there was no one at the door,” she said.
‘Charlotte said she thought it was her grandpa Barry as it had become a running joke, every time it happened her family would say ‘oh there’s grandpa’.
“So I asked, ‘If that’s you, Barry, do it again,’ immediately the doorbell rang, so we asked again and he did it again. It wasn’t until a few weeks later, on his birthday, that it happened again.’
Apparitions and shadows
The last sign TJ gave of a haunted house was sightings of ghostly apparitions or shadows in the house.
She explained that these sightings can range from powerful apparitions to the stereotypical transparent figures often seen in films.
She said: ‘If you or others in your household witness such phenomena, it could be a strong indication of a haunted house.
‘Note the circumstances surrounding these sightings, such as the time of day, location, and any emotions or feelings experienced during the encounter.
‘Again, these could be former residents of the house or land, or more importantly, your loved ones.’
