Inside the French castle ‘feels like something out of a Disney movie’ – and costs less than £40 per person per night

“It felt like I was staying in something out of a Disney movie.”

So said travel influencer Emma Cooke about her stay at Château de Contay, an 18th-century country house in the small village of Contay, France.

Emma documented her visit with a short TikTok video, which had 575,000 views at the time of writing.

She explained to MailOnline Travel that the ‘beautiful’ castle – a two-hour drive from Calais – is run by a family who are renovating the building.

The 33-year-old said: ‘I would recommend staying at the castle for something different to your standard hotel room. It’s very personal.

‘It felt like we were staying with family. The father brought us breakfast in the morning, fresh pastries and a baguette, plus firewood for the fire.’

She described the en suite rooms as ‘large, beautiful and historic’ – and revealed that a peacock roams the grounds.

Just a 20-minute drive away is the Gothic city of Amiens, home to Notre Dame of Amiens Cathedral, the largest in France.

And the ‘charming’ city of Arras is an hour’s drive away.

To reach the castle, Emma from London recommended driving, as she said there is more room for adventure.

She added, “TThe country roads are so beautiful here and I was shocked at how convenient the ferry is compared to flying.

“Plus it means you can come back with a trunk full of cheese and wine.”

Château de Contay can accommodate up to 16 guests and offers a mix of eight bedrooms and en suite bathrooms, according to the manufacturer. website.
