A photo of the unfortunate error was posted on the popular Reddit forum r/iPhone.

The forum is described as “Reddit’s little corner for iPhone enthusiasts (and some people who just kind of enjoy them…).”

“Do NOT put glue on your rear window,” the disgruntled iPhone owner wrote.

They had attached a photo of a very damaged device to the post, showing that the glass on the back of the phone was cracked.

Part of the glass is missing and the contents of the phone are visible.

The post was upvoted 298 times, with other Reddit users expressing disbelief that glue could cause such damage.

“Did you rip it off quickly like a band-aid and was it too late before you realized it, or was it a slow train wreck and you kept going, why the hell not? Really curious lol,” one user asked.

“It was already cracked a bit before my attempt. I used several objects to pry it off. I knew it wouldn’t come off without shattering the back.

“Why would you do that without a case,” was the most popular comment.

‘I can’t believe it,’ say iPhone owners after finding a secret trick to falling asleep, saying it’s ‘the only way I can sleep’

“My IQ was low that day,” the broken iPhone owner replied.

It’s not just glue that you should keep away from your iPhone.

Apple has a list of products on his website which are best kept away from the device.

“Clean your iPhone immediately if it comes into contact with anything that could cause stains or other damage, for example, dirt or sand, ink, makeup, soap, detergent, acids or acidic foods, or lotions,” it warns.

iPhone tricks to try today

Here are some of the best…

  • Type cursor – Press and hold the spacebar while typing to turn your keyboard into a trackpad, making it easier to move through words and sentences
  • Close all Safari tabs – To do this in one go, simply hold the overlapping squares in the bottom right corner and press Close All Tabs
  • Delete many photos quickly – Press and hold a photo and drag your finger diagonally in Photos to select many images at once. Then press Delete
  • Exchange currencies quickly – Swipe down from the top of your home screen, then tap the bar and type a currency (e.g. €200) and it will automatically convert to your local currency
  • Check if you need a battery upgrade – Batteries in smartphones deteriorate over time. Just go to Settings > Battery > Battery Status and view the maximum capacity. In general, a battery is considered worn out if its capacity is less than 80%. If you are below, you can purchase a battery change from Apple
  • Move apps faster – Hold an app until it starts to wiggle, then tap (while still holding) other apps, which will stack them so you can move them around more easily
