The Dukes Of Hazzard actress revealed in her memoir Open Book that she got sober in 2017 and took to Instagram to share a photo of herself in the midst of her addiction.

In the original caption, Simpson wrote, “This person in the early morning of November 1, 2017 is an unrecognizable version of myself.”

She continued, “I had so much self-discovery to explore and explore. I knew that in this moment I would allow myself to take back my light, demonstrate victory over my inner struggle for self-esteem and face this world with piercing clarity.”

‘Personally, to do this I had to stop drinking alcohol because it kept my mind and heart circling in the same direction, and honestly I was exhausted. I wanted to feel the pain so I could wear it as a badge of honor.”

Simpson continued, “I wanted to live like a leader and break cycles to move forward. I never wanted to look back with regret and remorse on the choice I made and would make for the rest of my time here in this beautiful world.”

‘I can’t believe it’s been four years already! It feels like maybe 2. I think that’s a good thing. Ha. There is so much stigma surrounding the word alcoholism or the label of an alcoholic. The real work that needed to be done in my life was actually accepting failure, pain, brokenness, and self-sabotage.”

‘The drinking wasn’t the problem. I was. I didn’t love myself. I didn’t respect my own strength. Today I do that.’

“I’ve made peace with the fears and I’ve accepted the parts of my life that are just sad. I own my personal power with soulful courage. I am incredibly honest and comfortably open. I’m available.’

In her memoir Open Book, she talked about getting sober. “I killed myself with all the drinking and pills,” she said. ‘Giving up alcohol was easy. I was mad at that bottle. About how this allowed me to remain complacent and numb.”

The therapy was not that simple: ‘By working I made myself feel the traumas I had experienced.’
