Golden Globes 2024: Jo Koy labeled ‘the worst presenter ever’ as comedian erupts on social media after terrible monologue that left audience resorting to pity

Stand-up comedian Jo Koy has been branded ‘the worst presenter ever’ at the 2024 Golden Globes after social media criticized him for his terrible monologue.

“Yo, I got the gig 10 days ago, you want a perfect monologue? Shut up,” Koy said.

“Calm down, I wrote a few and they’ll make you laugh,” he continued, as much of the audience resorted to pity.

Koy then addressed actor Robert DeNiro in the audience and said he was “sorry” for being a fan of his.

DeNiro smiled briefly before Koy said that getting his girlfriend pregnant at age 80 is his “greatest achievement,” and the audience and DeNiro laughed some more.

Social media was quickly flooded with harsh criticism of Koy’s performance, as NPR media analyst Eric Deggans said, “Jo Koy is a great comedian, but I’m not sure he’s used to working with a showbiz audience hosting the #GoldenGlobes.”

‘His monologue was not biting enough, but at the same time a bit too biting. More difficult to perform than it seems.’

Comments about his opening monologue flooded social media

When he started mentioning hit movies from the past year, Koy said the “key moment” in the Barbie movie was when Barbie “experienced bad breath, cellulite and flat feet, or what casting directors call character acting.”

After he said this, Selena Gomez was seen bowing her head down and placing it in her hands in disbelief as no one laughed.

“Some I wrote, some I wrote,” he added.

“The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL: At the Gold Globes we have less camera footage of Taylor Swift,” Koy said.

Swift responded by quickly taking a sip of her drink and not laughing.

Another tweet about his hosting read: “I feel like no one was in charge of the golden globes and Jo Koy just walked in and said ‘I’m hosting’ and no one bothered to check if that was correct.”
