Julia Roberts was every bit the Pretty Woman on Wednesday night as she celebrated the UK launch of new film Leave The World Behind in London.

On a freezing night in London, the Oscar-winning actress, 56, warmed up for proceedings in a thigh-skimming miniskirt and dazzling silver-embellished heels as she greeted fans outside Curzon Mayfair.

A powder pink double-breasted blazer completed the look, while a diamond-encrusted necklace complimented her statement shoes as she walked into the venue.

Roberts was joined by co-star Myha’la Herrol and director Sam Esmail at Curzon Mayfair ahead of the psychological thriller’s official UK release on December 8.

But the actress, who is also co-producing her latest film, was without co-stars Kevin Bacon, Ethan Hawke and Mahershala Ali.

Roberts says her new film is a multi-layered disaster thriller, where she got to play someone very different from herself.

The film, executive produced by former US President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, is written and directed by Mr. Robot maker Esmail and based on the bestseller of the same name by Rumaan Alam.

It sees Roberts’ character Amanda, her husband and two children go on an impromptu vacation in a small town on Long Island.

Their escape is interrupted when a man and his daughter, played by Mahershala Ali and Myha’la Herrol, show up on their doorstep, claiming to be the owners of the posh residence and requesting to stay the night.

As tension grows between the two families, strange events happen around them and they find themselves under the same roof trying to make sense of the chaos outside.

“There are always about 17.5 things happening at once in each scene and for each person. It was just all walks of life and circumstances,” Roberts told Reuters at the film’s premiere in London on Wednesday.

The Hollywood star relished the challenge of playing cynical advertising director Amanda.

“Just the idea of playing someone who is intrinsically suspicious and a bit irritable, which is not my nature, but still making her human and approachable and likeable.”

Fans of Alam’s book should not expect a faithful film adaptation, Esmail warned.

“Something that works in a literary medium might not work in a cinematic medium. I was very honest with Rumaan that I would really take liberties with the interpretation.

“I went through all the ideas, he was there, and I think in many ways we both got what we wanted because his book and the film are really two different, self-contained pieces that operate more or less independently of each other.”

The actress celebrated the launch of her new film after sharing a rare photo of herself with her twins Hazel and Phinneas.

In honor of their 19th birthday next Tuesday, she uploaded a black and white throwback to her childhood with her little bundles of joy.

Both twins were safe in their mother’s arms as they sat on her lap.

“There are no words for the joy, fun and wild rush of life together,” the proud mother wrote heartwarmingly in her caption.

The Pretty Woman star shares her twins and 16-year-old Henry with her second husband, cinematographer Daniel Moder.

Julia and Daniel celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary on July 4 last year, after tying the knot at her ranch in New Mexico on Independence Day 2002.

In an interview a few months after their milestone anniversary, Julia gave a hint as to why their marriage has proven to be such a keeper.

“I always say the same thing and I stand by it,” the Hollywood superstar explained to E! News. “It’s making out. Lots of making out.’

She gave the interview alongside her Ticket To Paradise co-star George Clooney, who joked: ‘I make out with Danny too.’

During the same promotional tour, Julia and George appeared on the Today show, where she gave her reflections on motherhood.

Julia explained her theory that children “have chosen us in this moment to be their stewards and their shepherds in this life experience.”

She met her husband “when I was ready,” and “you call these children into your lives when we are ready to be the best partner with them.”

The Eat Pray Love star confessed, “Sometimes I get gripped by the fear of screwing up, and sometimes I just say to my kids, ‘So today, as a mother, can we just take that off? the planks? Because I screwed up.”
