The Princess of Wales has delighted royal fans by sharing an unseen childhood photo of herself enjoying a family Christmas.

The royal, 41, shared the photo from Middleton’s family photo album on Instagram this afternoon to promote her Christmas Carol Service, which airs on ITV on Christmas Eve at 7.45pm.

The heartwarming photo was taken in 1983, when the mother of three was just a month away from celebrating her second birthday.

The image shows the Princess of Wales wearing a red and blue striped dress, a navy blue cardigan and a multi-coloured beaded necklace.

The royal, who had short brown hair, looks transfixed by something in the distance as she sits at the table.

Kate. 41, was a month before her second birthday when the photo was taken in December 1983

The image was captioned: ‘Sharing some festive memories this Christmas because

Shaping Us is about the crucial importance of our early years and the role the people around us play in shaping the rest of our lives.”

The photo has already amassed almost 10,000 likes and has delighted the royal couple’s supporters – with many drawing comparisons between Kate and Prince Louis.

One gushed: ‘Aww, what a nice surprise!! Her Royal Highness was such a cute baby.”

Another exclaimed: “Oh wow, I thought it was Prince Louis!”

“Wow, she really copied and pasted Louis,” said a third.

“A Prince Louis double,” said a fourth.

This year, the Princess of Wales has stepped up work on her Shaping Us campaign, which focuses on the importance of early childhood.

Kate previously described the Shaping Us initiative as her ‘life’s work’.

At a launch event in January, the Royal Family said: ‘The campaign is fundamentally about shining a spotlight on the vital importance of early childhood and how it shapes the adults we become.

‘During this time we lay the foundations and building blocks for life. And it is when we learn to understand ourselves, understand others and understand the world we live in.

“That’s why it’s essential to understand not only the unique importance of our earliest years, but also what we can all do to raise future generations of happy, healthy adults.”

The initiative is a long-term project of the Princess, starting with a child’s development and the importance of the formative years.
