Moment hooded killer runs across road and stabs father, 50, in the neck with a knife before fleeing scene – as five teenage thugs including 16-year-old twins are jailed for planned attack

Police have released footage of the moment a 16-year-old stabbed a father in the neck next to a busy main road before fleeing.

A gang of ‘wild’ youths were jailed yesterday after being found guilty of planning the murder of Junior Osborne, 50, as he cycled along Narborough Road in Leicester shortly after 9.30pm on September 27 last year.

Mr Osborne was left in a pool of blood and was rushed to Leicester Royal Infirmary, but died about an hour later as a result of his injuries.

Nero McLean was jailed yesterday after being found guilty of Mr Osborne’s murder, while four other young men, including his twin brother Nevardo McLean, were each found guilty of manslaughter.

Harrowing footage of the horrific attack shows Nero crossing the road, stabbing Junior in the neck and later fleeing down a quiet residential street with the other members of the gang.

The group was identified by Leicestershire Police through extensive CCTV, which mapped the group’s movements in the hours leading up to Mr Osborne’s death.

Three members of the group were first identified on the day of the stabbing as they walked together along Mill Lane just before 6pm.

They were then seen again getting into a taxi in Harlaxton Street before going to an address on Andrewes Walk at around 7.30pm where they planned to attack Mr Osborne.

Three members of the gang bought large knives and filmed themselves posing with the knives at the address before the murder.

At 9.22pm, the group of thugs were seen getting into a car wearing face coverings and with their hoods up.

In the seconds before his death, Mr Osborne can be seen stopping on the pavement on his bicycle.

After a five-week trial, Nero, who lived with his brother half a mile away, was found guilty of murder and possession of a bladed article.

Judge Neil Calver sentenced him to life with a minimum term of 17 years at Leicester Crown Court on Tuesday.

His brother Nevardo, along with Theobald Budzwa, 18, Moises Steiner, 18, and James Williams, 18, were found guilty of manslaughter and possession of a bladed article.

They were each sentenced to eight years in prison.

Following the sentencing, Junior Osborne’s family released a statement honoring the “dearly loved husband, father, brother and stepfather.”

His family wrote: “Junior was a family man who will be missed by all of us. He was born and raised in Montserrat in the Caribbean and loved his sport.

‘He came to Britain in 1997 after the island’s volcano began erupting two years earlier, forcing him to flee his home. He left his family behind and came to Britain to rebuild his life – a life that was cruelly taken from him.

“Although life was not easy, he had a family and children who loved him. He was a smart person who did everything he could to help others and made many friends along the way.

“Although he wasn’t perfect, he didn’t deserve to die in such a tragic and terrible way. He was taken from us in cold blood. The loss of Junior has left us all with a huge void and a huge hole in our hearts. He was a beloved husband, father, brother and stepfather.

“His children won’t see him again and he won’t see his daughter graduate or walk her down the aisle.

‘The images of his last moments are difficult for us to see. Although there is justice for Junior, no punishment will bring him back. However, we hope that the streets will be safer now that those who took him from us will not be able to walk the streets again anytime soon.”

Detective Inspector Mark Parish, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, was the senior investigating officer.

He said: “As I have said before, I believe this was a planned and coordinated attack to kill Junior.

“A huge amount of credit and kudos must go to the Major Crime Squad detectives for their efforts in going through hours of footage to identify the group, as well as our uniformed colleagues for their efforts both at the scene and in arresting all those involved whilst the investigation continued.

‘Hopefully today’s outcome will help increase public confidence in Team Leicestershire and the work we do to bring offenders to justice.’
