Modric turned back the years this weekend after coming off the bench in the 75th minute and striking in the 80th minute to secure all three points for Los Blancos.

But O’Hara has said the Croatian midfielder, whose contract at the Bernabeu expires in June, will leave this summer and ‘easily’ find a job at any Premier League club.

He said: “I had the pleasure of playing with Luka Modric and I can tell you he was absolutely incredible.

“You couldn’t get the ball away from him in training. He has only gotten stronger.

“He was incredible at Real Madrid and ended up having a brilliant career with some of the best players ever.

“He could probably still play in the Premier League. He could go to Manchester United and easily end up in midfield and even Manchester City, to be honest.”

Modric spent three years with O’Hara at Spurs after joining the club in 2008 for a fee of £16.5 million.

O’Hara then left North London in 2011 to join Wolves, while Modric stayed with the Lilywhites until 2012 before heading to the Spanish capital.

And what a career Modric has had since then.

He joined Los Blancos for £30 million and won the Champions League in his second term.

Modric was a key member of the club’s three consecutive Champions League titles from 2015-2016 to 2017-2018.

In total, he has won 24 major trophies in Madrid, including five UEFA Champions League titles, three La Liga titles and two Copa del Rey titles.

He is also the captain of the Croatian national team leading them to the World Cup finals in 2018 and third place in 2022.

O’Hara continued: “We all know he’s getting older and Real Madrid are changing things up to take a more youthful approach, but Luka Modric can go wherever he wants this summer.

“What a player and what a career he has had, he will probably go down as one of the best midfielders ever.

“If he were English or Brazilian you would put him in the category of any other top midfielder who has ever played the game.”
