Madison beer credited Olivia Rodrigo for an increase in song streams after the two women reportedly wrote breakup tracks about mutual exes Zak Bia.

“Thanks [you] miss olivia <3,” Beer, 24, responded in a since-deleted tweet on Tuesday, July 4, in response to Pop Crave stats revealing that her 2021 song “Selfish” had seen an increase in downloads since Rodrigo, 20, released her new single “Vampire” last week.

Beer also praised Rodrigo’s artistry on the track, which serves as the debut single from Rodrigo’s upcoming second album, Guts. When asked for her “opinion” on the song, Beer tweeted, “F-king beautiful. Really think it’s so special and shows her growth so amazing. Really very impressive.”

When Rodrigo released “Vampire” on June 30, fans immediately started speculating that the song was about 27-year-old Bia. The “Driver’s License” singer and the DJ were first spotted together in April 2022 Us weekly confirmed six months later that they called it quits.

Prior to his romance with Rodrigo, Bia was famously in a relationship with Beer for two years until their split in 2019. While Beer never shared the reason for the couple’s breakup, she posted a cryptic message via social media at the time, writing via Twitter: “Before you diagnose yourself with depression and anxiety, make sure you’re not just surrounded by holes. and people who don’t care about you.”

Beer later released ‘Selfish’ on which she sings about dating a person who won’t be honest with her.

“Bet you thought you gave me real love / But we all spent it in nightclubs / All you ever want to do is lie / Why are you always such a Gemini?” she sings on the track. (Bia’s birthday is June 9, which falls under the astrological sign of Gemini.) The song is also about trying to help someone who refuses to accept help. “I don’t wanna break your thread and needle / Trying to screw you but I can’t, I refuse / Shouldn’t love you but I couldn’t help it / Felt like you never felt it / I’ve always knew you were too damn selfish.

Rodrigo’s ‘Vampire’, meanwhile, deals with similar themes.

“I should have known it was strange / You only come out at night / I always thought I was smart / But you made me look so naive,” she sings in the chorus. “The way you sold me for parts / As you sank your teeth into me, oh / Bloodsucker, famef-ker / Bleed me out like a goddamn vampire.”

Both songs also reference infidelity, with Beer singing, “I don’t know why I looked the other way,” while Rodrigo declares, “I see the parties and the diamonds sometimes when I close my eyes / Six months of torture that sold you like some forbidden paradise.”

Rodrigo, for her part, raises a perceived age gap in her relationship. (She and Bia are six years apart.)

“You went for me and not her / Because girls your age know better,” she sings.

While neither Rodrigo nor Beer have publicly said who their respective songs are about, Rodrigo gave a glimpse of her motive behind “Vampire.” after it premiered earlier this month.

“Writing this song has helped me get through a lot of feelings of regret, anger and heartbreak. it’s one of my favorite songs on the album and it felt very cathartic to finish it,” she wrote via Instagram at the time. “I’m so glad it’s in your hands now and I hope it helps you deal with all the bloodsuckers in your life. all my thanks 4ever ❤️.”
