Drag queen with VERY crude name performs in front of children at Maine pride event

A small town inside Maine held its first-ever Pride event where a bawdy-named drag queen performed for children.

Letta Dicken, the self-proclaimed number one plus size drag queen in the state, lip-synced to songs and read books during Windham-Raymond’s Pride celebration on Sunday.

The planned drag performances were canceled before the event after organizers faced resistance from the community and threats were made against the entertainers.

However, Letta was not deterred and performed in the gym in front of an audience full of children and their parents.

One of the songs had the lyrics: ‘The drag queen’s hips are going to sway, sway, sway, all over the city.’

Letta also joined Windham Public Library nursery coordinator Alexis Handelman in a story time.

“I felt it was really important to show up and be visible and help rise up not only the queer community of Windham and Raymond, but also this organization, which has gone through a lot of challenges to get to where they are today,” shared Letta at the newspaper. Press Herald.

“I wanted to help spread the message that love is louder than hate.”

Bradley Youngs brought his seven-year-old son Marshall to the event. “We are here to support this event and there are other events like this in town, there aren’t many in Windham,” he said.

Robert King and Nicholas Tucker said they attended the event because they were unable to attend Portland Pride this year, and were extra motivated to come show their support because of the threats.

“We are here to support the LGBTQ community, but especially to be here for this first one in Windham,” King said.

Before the event, drag performer Chartreuse Money said a man approached her at a bar in Portland and told her not to go.

“He came up to me and asked, ‘Are you Chartreuse Money?’ I said yes. He said, “Are you involved with Windham Pride?” I said yes, on June 2. He said, ‘As a friend, I’m telling you, don’t go,'” Money recounted WMTW.

‘I asked him: if I were present, would my life be in danger? And he said yes.’

Windham’s police chief ruled the threat “unsubstantiated,” but event organizers hired three police officers for extra security.
