The Manchester United loanee picked up a yellow card in the 64th minute, but his evening would get even worse.

In the 94th minute, with the score 1-0, Amrabat was again sanctioned for a foul as the last defender.

The midfielder was initially sent off with a second yellow card from referee Mahmood Ali Mahmood Ismail.

The VAR then checked the decision and, after taking the time, decided to call Amrabat back.

But instead of withdrawing the yellow card so he could finish the match, the video officials recommended a straight red card for the Man Utd ace.

Even the linesman seemed shocked by the decision, as seen in the TV replays.

Fans saw the moment and flocked to social media to ridicule the Moroccan.

One fan wrote: “This is truly pure entertainment.”

A fourth joked: “He thought he was going back on the pitch, the referee said NO.”

A fifth said: “I can't believe they called him back to send him in another direction.”

Amrabat is not the only Man United star to have had a tough Afcon tournament.

He has struggled to succeed for the Red Devils and will return to Fiorentina after the end of his loan spell following the success of Kobbie Mainoo.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana was dropped by Cameroon after just one appearance.

Cameroon were eliminated in the round of 16 after a 2-0 defeat to Nigeria, while Onana returned to Manchester.
