A couple live in one of Australia’s ritziest suburbs. They say they’re sick and tired of ‘yobbos’ and the one disgusting act that’s ruining their beachside paradise

Residents of a glitzy coastal suburb on Sydney’s northern beaches have said they are fighting back against drunken ‘yobbos’ taking over their quiet bay community.

Brendon Lansdowne and Elizabeth Malwood have lived in Manly for 17 years but claim they have never seen such excessive drunken behaviour.

The pair reported as many as 30 cases of illegal urination in one night, even on their doorstep, as part of their unofficial ‘pee patrol’.

Despite providing photos of the perpetrators to police, the pair told the Today Show on Tuesday that little had been done to stop them.

“The buyers down there are some of the best in the world. Why don’t they arrest these people and charge them,” they said.

“The attitude of these people when they’re approached about their actually illegal behavior… it’s a sense of entitlement.”

The couple live opposite what is known locally as ‘The Office’, or East Esplanade Park, a popular party venue during the warmer months of the year.

To prevent ‘disorderly behaviour’, Northern Beaches Council has introduced an 8pm curfew on the consumption of alcohol in the park in 2022.

An additional public toilet block was also installed, partly due to illegal urination, next to another toilet block already on the quay.

But despite the changes, Mr Lansdowne and Ms Malwood said more needed to be done, including an earlier 6pm liquor ban.

“Because they are so drunk, they stagger around looking for the nearest tree, bush or door,” the pair said.

“I mean, we have them urinating in our doorways…some of them are just literally standing at people’s front doors.”

In a statement to The Daily Telegraph about the behavior at the park, Northern Beaches Council said its rangers were cooperating with police.

“Police and rangers are monitoring the area for anti-social behaviour, with rangers referring any incidents to police,” the statement said.

‘Police respond to anti-social and criminal behavior including issuing fines for public urination.’
