Neely Gracey is a mother of two and a sports enthusiast who regularly shares her running achievements with her more than 27,000 followers on Instagram.

Recently, the Colorado-based mom of Rome, two, and Athena, five, took a break from her usual workout tips to dish out some parenting advice.

However, her change of content backfired after she suggested parents could opt out of their children’s baths if their children had been swimming in a pool all day.

In a viral video, which has been viewed more than 102,000 times to date, Neely revealed she was “happy” that “pool counts as bathing season” had officially arrived.

The clip showed her son after he had just gotten out of the pool.

The text above the video read: ‘Luckily the pool counts as bathing season for everyone who participates!’

She captioned the clip, “Please tell me I’m not the only mom celebrating.”

However, the mother-of-two’s confession took a turn for the worse when people on the internet furiously criticized her for not bathing her children.

One person said: ‘No way man. Pool day means it is DEFINITELY a potbellied night for my kids. So dirty, chemicals, sunscreen, sweat, pee, salt, etc.’

Someone else wrote: ‘I never want to shower harder than after a long day at the pool or beach.’

“Oh that’s annoying,” one user added.

“People wonder how a pandemic started,” another noted.

Another said: ‘As a swimming instructor, wash your body and hair after swimming. It damages your skin and hair cells worse than anything else. So dry and itchy!’

Someone else added: ‘No, you especially need an extra bath after the pool.’

“That’s disgusting,” another person commented.

Another user added: ‘No.’

While you’re talking to Todaythe mom and workout fanatic revealed that she had no idea her post would spark such a strong response.

“In no way did I post this to create the controversy it has apparently caused. The main reason behind this was that I knew that everyone’s swimming pools were opening nationally.

‘Every parent knows the epic struggle that comes with trying to get your kids into the bath and then trying to get them out of the bath.

“It’s two separate fights each time. “I just wanted to give parents permission to have fun with their kids this summer,” she told the outlet.

And she insisted she still washes her kids after they get out of the pool, saying it was “so funny that people took it so seriously.”

According to the Association of the American Academy of DermatologyChildren ages six to eleven should bathe one to two times a week, while tweens and teens should bathe once a day.

The AAD recommends that you wash your child, regardless of age, after each time he or she finishes swimming.
