‘I had the time of my life!’: Music lover, 62, praises ‘the fantastic young people who looked after her’ at Glastonbury festival

Glastonbury went out with a bang last night, with festival goers going wild for world music legend Elton John’s final UK performance.

But while no one in the 120,000-strong audience could have been moved by the two-hour greatest hits set, one woman in her 60s has said she was lifted even higher than her fellow fans — literally.

The 62-year-old solo festival-goer said on Twitter that her highlight “was then one of the young men [nearby] lifted me on his shoulders during Tiny Dancer.’

Already ‘quite close to the front, and center stage’. the music lover was delighted with the hooded young man who carried her on his shoulders so she could see even better.

In a heartwarming post confirming the inclusiveness the festival strives for, the anonymous woman praising “the groups of amazing young people” stood by to reinforce her experience.

The anonymous 62-year-old posted that she was “shoveled” onto a young man’s shoulders during Tiny Dancer, which gave her even better view of the stage

‘It was very busy, but I was surrounded by groups of wonderful young people who took great care of me all the time. I had plenty of room to dance,’ she said.

Over 200,000 people flocked to Worthy Farm in Somerset for the Glastonbury Festival this year.

Apart from Elton John, the headliners included British indie rock band The Artic Monkeys, American hard rock band Guns N’ Roses and soulful singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey.

Other highlights included the audience supporting Lewis Capaldi and singing his lyrics as he wrestled with Gilles de la Tourette’s.

But not everyone was positive about this year’s festival, with some calling it “terrible.”

The 62-year-old woman’s comments were posted by the @GlastoGals account, which bills itself as an “all-female, multi-generational group passionate about GlastoFest.”

Some called it “too awake” – even for the usual left-wing and new age clientele – as crowds of Gen Z’s eschewed DJ sets and bands for political debates and group workout sessions. And caterers were criticized for sky-high prices.

Liam Rogan, 24, said: ‘People are just done with it, it’s depressing. Glastonbury has been terrible this year. Nothing went right and none of the acts were show-stopping. I left the Arctic Monkeys, they were so horrible.’

But while that may be true, the anonymous woman was unflinching and ended her post with the highest possible praise:

‘I had the time of my life. Thank you Glastonbury Festival 2023.’
