An ecstatic Ken shouted: 'He's a real son! Really big potatoes!'

Nigel, from Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex, had been working on lifts in north London before returning to his van for the cheering phone call.

After hearing the news, he exclaimed: “That has just changed my life – £133,000! I can't believe it.”

Uplifting call

Self-employed Nigel, Ken and another neighbor each doubled their winnings by playing with two cards.

Dad-of-two Nigel says: “The Postcode Lottery called me and said they would come to my street with a surprise, but I couldn't miss the work.

“But when I saw the amount, I grabbed my tools and drove home.”

Nigel said news of his win quickly spread around the construction site and he now has a new nickname: “Millionaire Man”.

He said: “When I walk into a room or around the grounds, guys say, 'Here he is – the millionaire man.'

“It was all good-natured and everyone congratulated me.”

He added: “It may not be a million, but for me that's the same as winning a million.”

I won the £166,000 jackpot in the People's Postcode Lottery… I knew I was going to win after the key signals came earlier today –

Nigel is now planning to put a down payment on a house and treat his two children to a long-awaited holiday.

He said: “To be able to buy my own house and treat my children is a huge weight off my shoulders.

“I booked a holiday for me and the kids but it got canceled due to COVID so I just had to keep my wits about me in the hope that I could rebook it at some point.”

Nigel also enjoyed his parents' jackpot joy as dad Ken and mum Jenny celebrated a stunning win.

He said: “I'm over the moon because I know my parents won too. They've done a lot for me and now to know they've finished means a lot.”

Ken, a retired taxi driver from Brighton, revealed his son convinced him to enter the People's Postcode Lottery.

And he won just weeks after he signed up.

He said: “Nigel said I should give it a try so I guess I have him to thank for that. I even signed up with two tickets because he plays with two.”

And Ken may also have his wife Jenny to thank after signing up on the same day she retired as a housekeeping assistant at Southlands Hospital on December 1, 2023.

Jenny said: “I may have brought him luck, you never know. We feel incredibly lucky, especially with Nigel winning too.”

The family moved to Shoreham-by-Sea three years ago to accommodate Ken's elderly father.

Ken

Before that, they had spent more than 43 years in the nearby city of Hove.

“When we moved, I had a feeling that Shoreham was going to be a happy area for us. And it certainly turned out to be that way.”

Ken recently celebrated his 70th birthday and said his stroke of luck was “the icing on the cake”.

He said: “It was my birthday on January 25th and I didn't think I would ever get such a big gift.”

Grandparents-of-three Ken and Jenny have not yet chosen a holiday destination but are planning to take a break after a “tough” last six years.

Ken said: “I ended up in intensive care in 2018 after many medical problems and eventually had to retire.

“So we will definitely go on vacation and give something to our grandchildren.”

It comes after a pensioner who won £200,000 in the People's Postcode lottery revealed his first purchase will be controversial but something he has always wanted.

Meanwhile, neighbors who won £180,000 in the People's Postcode Lottery were told their wish list was boring.

And a couple who won £60,000 in the People's Postcode Lottery recently revealed how they could double their winnings.
