Nigel Farage suggests a ‘takeover’ of the Tory party in the event of a heavy defeat for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak

Nigel Farage wants to organize a ‘takeover’ of the Tory party in case of a major defeat for the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

The honorary chairman of the Reform UK party said he hoped key figures from the right could unite under one banner Work wins big on the 4th of july.

When asked whether he is proposing a merger, he answers: “It looks more like a takeover.”

There is increasing speculation about Farage’s future and that he may return to government Tories after the elections in an attempt to rebuild the party and move it away from the center and more to the right.

Senior Tory MPs, including the former Home Secretary Suella Bravermanex-prime minister Liz Truss and Dame Priti Patel have supported him in his return to the Tory fold after quitting the party 32 years ago over his position on the European Union.

Mr Sunak has also said he “respects” Mr Farage.

When asked directly whether the rumors are true and he wants to join the Tories, Farage told The Sunday Times: ‘Why do you think I called it reform? Because of what happened in Canada – the precedent of 1992-1993 in Canada, where the reforms come from outside, because the Canadian Conservatives have become social democrats, just like our gang here.

‘It took them time, it took them two elections, they became the largest party of the centre-right.

“They then absorbed what was left of the Conservative Party and gave it a new name.”

When asked if he was proposing a merger, he said: “It’s more like a takeover, my dear.”

A senior Tory said: ‘Our party needs to be able to come back with people like Nigel, where we effectively become that authentic Thatcherite party again – its natural home.’

Mr Farage also dismissed rumors that he could yet become a candidate to reform Britain and run for Parliament again, saying: ‘I said no. I believe I can add more by doing what I do.”

Instead, he will tour the country with party leader Richard Tice to raise awareness. The polls are currently around 10 to 12 percentage points, but need to get closer to 20 to win seats.

When asked what a victory would mean, he said: ‘millions of votes, but also some seats in parliament. It has to be both.’

Last week, Farage appeared to dangle the prospect of an electoral pact with the Tories to avoid splitting right-wing votes.

But Sunak dismissed the prospect, with Farage later saying there was ‘no chance’ of a deal with the Tories.
