Treat from the 90s is back on the shelves with NEW flavor – British 'down a bottle per hour'

SHOPPERS can buy a new flavor of a popular children's drink as soon as it hits stores.

Sunny Delight was the orange-flavored juice that kids in the '90s couldn't get enough of.

And now fans can try a 'Very Cherry' flavor, according to one after online.

The announcement was made on the Facebook group Newfoodsuk after it was spotted in an Asda store.

SunnyD fanatics were ecstatic and wanted to try the new drink.

One said: “Ooh, I'll have to keep an eye on that.”

Another commented: “I got this the other day along with blue raspberry.”

A third wrote: “This sounds amazing.”

Sunny Delight was originally developed in Florida, USA in 1963 and launched in Britain in 1998.

The juice brand launched an alcoholic version — SunnyD Vodka Seltzer — at Walmart last year.

Each can contains 95 calories and zero grams of sugar.

A pack of four costs $9.99 (£8.44).

Ilene Bergenfeld, CMO of Harvest Hill, said the launch of the alcoholic beverage came about at the request of fans.

She said, “So we looked at the hard seltzer category and thought, good, but we can do better. And SunnyD Vodka Seltzer was born.”

SunnyD isn't the only one introducing new products to the market as Marks and Spencer have launched their own soft drink brand with a retro style on the can and retro flavors such as cream soda.

Meanwhile, Costa has also launched a winter menu of food and drinks, including a thick milkshake drink, but heated up.

They are available in three different flavors: white chocolate and strawberry, salted caramel coffee and chocolate hazel.

Tango will also release Raspberry Blast and Cherry Blast flavors, the two flavors in the Ice Blast slushy.

Vimto Discovery Zero will also release new flavors with passion fruit and lychee and mango and dragon fruit flavors.

History of SunnyD

The orange drink was originally developed by Doric Foods in 1963 in Florida, USA.

Sundor Brands bought out Doric Foods before Procter & Gamble bought the company in 1989.

It was subsequently spun off into the independent Sunny Delight Beverages Company (SDBC) in 2005.

The drink was launched in Britain in 1998.

In 1999 it became the third best-selling drink, after Coca-Cola and Pepsi.

Today the drink is distributed by Dr Pepper/Seven Up in the US and Saputo in Canada.
