William and Kate’s ‘glossy’ five-minute Instagram video they released after the coronation is a sign of the ‘growing lack of cohesion’ between the king and the prince as it featured just 14 seconds of Charles and Camilla, claims Omid Scobie

A ‘glossy’ Instagram video shared by William and Kate, showing their family celebrating the coronation, highlighted ‘the growing lack of cohesion’ between the prince and his father the king, royal biographer Omid Scobie has claimed.

The five-minute video, titled ‘The Coronation Weekend – Behind the scenes with The Prince and Princess of Wales’, shows the momentous event from the perspective of the heir and his family.

Now, in his sensational new book Endgame, Scobie suggests that the limited showing King Charles gets in the short film marks a departure from the previous ‘lockstep’ approach shared by Buckingham and Kensington Palace.

“There was a feeling that William was slowly but surely trying to break away from his father,” Scobie quotes a former high courtier. “His popularity is high, and he doesn’t want his father’s lack of it to affect that.”

Scobie, who has been dubbed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s ‘cheerleader-in-chief’ by some commentators, has been candid in his new book about the relationships between senior royals.

He has been particularly criticized for what commentators are calling “nasty” comments against Princess Kate, which he says was nicknamed ‘Katie Keen’ and had no interest in becoming friends with Meghan Markle.

In the new book, which is released in Britain on November 28, Scobie discusses the reaction to Kate and William’s video, which gave royal fans a glimpse into the coronation weekend.

He claims a source close to William said the film was an example of “smart public relations” by the future king.

But he claims that since Charles only appears for a short time — 14 seconds in total — the Instagram video exposes “the growing disconnect between the king and the heir, the father and the son.”

The short film, which was posted in its entirety on YouTube, shows William and Kate along with their children Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, attending the ceremony that was watched by millions around the world.

It shows the family getting ready at Kensington Palace in preparation for the ceremony, with the royal couple wearing their regalia, including Royal Victorian Order Mantles.

The family then departs to travel to Westminster Abbey in a golden carriage, along with thousands of military personnel and members of the Buckingham Palace household.

William, Kate and their children are then seen on the balcony of Buckingham Palace with other members of the royal family after the coronation ceremony.

The next day, the family are seen in the film taking part in the Big Help Out – a volunteer event held across the country to celebrate the King’s years of public service.

Prince Louis can be seen helping with a digger while his brother George takes up archery before the family takes part in a group photo with the other volunteers.

The video ends with clips taken during the coronation concert at Windsor Castle, starring Katy Perry, Lionel Ritchie and Take That, before William gives a speech in honor of the king.

He told his father: ‘We are all so proud of you’, before promising to ‘serve’ him and the country and ending with ‘God Save The King’.

The short film was produced by Will Warr, a filmmaker who recently rejoined the Prince to capture behind-the-scenes moments at the Earthshot Prize in Singapore.

In 2021, Warr was behind the camera to create the stunning 10th wedding anniversary video commissioned by the then Duke and Duchess of Cambridge William and Kate.

The producer has also collaborated with popular social media influencers and major brands such as McDonalds and Puma.

The moving film was seen as a stark contrast to Harry and Meghan’s Netflix documentary series, which focused on some members of the royal family.

Scobie’s colorful career began as a celebrity reporter before quickly rocketing into the public eye with the highly successful 2020 biography of the Sussexes, Finding Freedom.

Mr Scobie wrote about his book on X last Thursday: ‘And let’s get this nonsense out of the way – #ENDGAME is about the current state of the British Royal Family.

‘It’s not ‘Harry and Meghan’s book’, I’m not ‘Meg’s friend’, the Sussexes have nothing to do with it, their story is a small part of a much bigger story that you can read in 12 days. ‘
