Outrage over bikini runway show featuring Playboy model as critics criticize swimwear label for casting ‘little white women’ and only ONE plus-size model – but supporters say there’s ‘nothing wrong with pretty ladies’

A swimwear showcase has sparked outrage over the lack of ‘diversity’ among the models.

Beach Bunny showcased their latest collection of skimpy bathing suits at Miami Swim Week, an annual Florida swimsuit event, with a video of the event posted online Friday, sparking anger among social media users.

The show was led by former Playboy model Joy Corrigan, who showed off her lithe and athletic physique on the runway in a range of barely-there bikinis.

The 28-year-old shared footage of her runway moment on Instagram this week, writing, “Pure JOY walking for @beachbunnyswimwear, thank you so much for having me as a fam again.”

Beach Bunny also posted a video from the event on their official Instagram page, showing their gorgeous models in a range of revealing swimwear.

Not everyone was happy with what they saw, and many who watched the clips expressed their horror.

“It would be nice to see more realistic body types. A plus size model just doesn’t do it,” one person complained.

“Two models with curves… groundbreaking,” another disgruntled person wrote in the comments.

“Wow… a bunch of short, mostly white women. So much variety,’ said another.

‘Every girl looks alike! It’s insane that you guys hire the same girls every year instead of switching it up and putting new faces and exotic models on the show,’ someone else agreed.

“Honestly, you guys will get fewer views this year for this change and see how relevant you become again,” they added.

‘You need more body types! You only have two kinds here’ and one more added in the comments.

Others were impressed by the beautiful models, one of whom said: ‘Beautiful suits on beautiful ladies’.

Another person agreed: “Victoria’s Secret is moving. This company has its priorities straight’.

“I think it’s crazy that a company still can’t just target ‘skinny’ people and have ‘skinny’ models,” reasoned someone else.

“We get plus size stores and plus size models. We think everything should be size inclusive, but it really isn’t lol, let these ladies have their moment of being gorgeous,” they added.

The American swimwear brand Beach Bunny was founded in 2004 by former swimsuit model Angela Chittenden.

The global brand is stocked all over the world, but it doesn’t come cheap — the company’s popular bikini tops cost between $200 and $300 AUD with bottoms sold separately for as much as $400 AUD each for the more expensive options.
