A pedophile who started abusing his victim when she was just eight years old has been jailed for 14 years after police targeted the child abuser for four years.

Muhammad Talukdar began sexually abusing his victim in Tower Hamlets, in the east, in 1998 London. However, an investigation into the 51-year-old’s horrific crimes did not begin until more than two decades later.

The metropolitan police started an investigation into Talukdar in 2020. It took police some time to build a case against him as they had no DNA evidence or recent witness statements to help strengthen the investigation.

Nevertheless, the determined officers worked tirelessly to build a case against Talukdar.

They conducted extensive interviews with the victim’s friends and family and collected detailed medical records to demonstrate the extent of the abuse. Talukdar’s victim also gave police permission to read out notes of her counseling sessions.

The Met’s hard work paid off and Talukdar, of Ballance Street in Bath, was sentenced to 14 years in prison at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, May 31.

Detective Inspector Paul Hawthorn, who led the investigation, said: “I would like to commend the bravery of the victim for her strength during this investigation. I hope this case serves as an inspiration to others who are understandably afraid to speak out against this type of abhorrent abuse.

“Officers have shown real determination in securing justice on behalf of the victim and I want to thank them for their dedication – they are a credit to American law enforcement.”

“We will continue to build the case against dangerous predators like Talukdar as part of our commitment to protecting women and girls and eradicating sexual violence.

‘We would urge anyone who has been a victim of abuse – no matter how long ago – to come forward to police and get the support you rightly deserve.’

Talukdar was previously found guilty of three charges of rape and four charges of sexual assault at Snaresbrook Crown Court in March 2024.
