FORMER Tottenham star Pascal Chimbonda has apologized after his side were beaten 10-1 in the Northwest Counties Premier League.

Chimbonda took over ninth-place club Skelmersdale United in October and cited Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho, Diego Simeone and Zinedine Zidane as his managerial inspirations.

The defender recently made headlines after being handed a five-match ban for inappropriate behavior while managing the Lancashire team.

The former Premier League defender was punished after being sent off during the match between Skelmersdale and Barnoldswick Town in October.

The former Spurs and Wigan defender subsequently managed to circumvent his stadium ban somewhat by registering himself as a player in the selection.

That meant he could attend some of the team's games and serve a shorter suspension, with the punishment reduced to three games instead.

His registration as a player also means he will retire at the age of 44.

A lover of the game, Chimbonda only retired from football in 2019 at the age of 39 – his last club was Ashton Town in the Greater Manchester region.

It seems Chimbonda's rollercoaster ride as Skelmersdale coach shows no signs of slowing down after the side were beaten 10-1 by Bury FC.

This puts Skelmersdale in real danger of back-to-back relegations and the manager has now taken to X (formerly known as Twitter) to apologize to players early.

Chimbonda wrote: “As manager of @Skemutdofficial I would like to apologize to all our fans who came to @buryfcofficial to see us today. Unfortunately it wasn't our best performance, we can only promise that we will do better on Tuesday evening.

“Thank you again for all your loyal support #skembonda.”

Chimbonda also made headlines during his short spell as Skelmsersdale coach when he unleashed a half-time team talk containing 72 swear words as he demanded more from his players.

The Skemonda train will continue on Tuesday at 7.45pm when they meet Charnock Richard.
