Drying clothes in the British winter is no easy task, especially if you don't turn on the heating.

Although using drying racks is the obvious solution, they can quickly take up space and clutter your home.

However, one clever dad has revealed how he created a drying area for his clothes that doesn't take up any space.

On Reddit, he shared a photo of his DIY solution, which involved creating four separate drying racks that fold down from the wall.

Once the clothes were dry, they could easily be folded again without taking up floor space.

He captioned his photo: “I took apart an old wooden crib and converted it into these drying racks for our laundry room. Happy with how it turned out.”

Sharing his method, he continued: “I divided the side of the crib in half and reframed to create the two foldable racks. They are held to the wall by 16 inch folding brackets that I purchased – pretty easy.

“It took a lot more effort to get the fold-down racks right. I made these from the ends of the crib. Added some plugs to increase stability and extra hanging space. Mounted to the wall at the bottom with simple hinges.

“On top, a repurposed chain (which I still had hanging from a lamp) hung from eyebolts. Flat cabinet door magnets that click closed when folded. All the wood sprayed black.”

He added: “One unintended benefit of chains that we have discovered is that we can hang clothes hangers through them if necessary.”

Fellow Redditors were quick to applaud his efforts and share their thoughts in the comments.
