While you may be dreaming about blurry summer days there is one annoying job that needs to be checked off your to-do list: cleaning the terrace.

The inevitable chore is not pleasant as most homeowners spend hours scrubbing their pavers.

However, one cleaning expert has found a way to get your garden looking great again with a household item – and it requires minimal scrubbing (yes, you read that right).

It comes after a desperate Facebook user asked how they could clear their patio, which was overgrown with weeds last summer.

Sharing a photo of their dirty garden, they asked the group for cleaning tips from Mrs Hinch: “Can anyone recommend a good patio cleaner… mine [is] in a terrible mess and had to pull out the weeds first.

Luckily, another member had a surprisingly simple solution: household bleach.

While it sounds too good to be true, one commenter claimed they gave their outdoor space a major makeover with the cleaning product – and it even lightened their pavers.

She explained that she used it with a stiff broom and wrote, “Bleach and a garden brush. Give it a good scrub and then rinse it off. The bleach will kill the algae and the sun will brighten the stones every morning and every day afterward.”

Even more amazing is that this hack will save you a small fortune as you can buy bottles of bleach for less than a pound at most supermarkets.

When you compare this to the cost of a pressure washer, the savings are even more staggering, as with most appliances retail between £50 – £150.

'Perform miracles!' Gardeners share a 79-cent hack that instantly kills weeds between patio slabs and prevents them from growing back

Meanwhile, you can buy a bottle of thick bleach, which kills 99 percent of bacteria and contains limescale-removing ingredients, for just 70p at Sainsbury's.

Before you go out and buy the biggest bottle you can find, homeowners should keep in mind that the cleaning product can be highly toxic.

While it is great for removing moss and algae, the… Pet Poison Helpline says it can cause skin and coat irritation in pets.

Even more alarming, the household cleaner can cause vomiting and stomach upset if your pet accidentally swallows it.

It can also kill plants due to its high pH level and it makes the soil extremely alkaline when applied.

While it is great for treating weeds, we recommend thoroughly rinsing away any remaining residue and using caution when applying bleach to your patio.

Alternatively, you can use boiling water to clean your patio as this will help kill moss and weeds that have gotten through the cracks.

It seems like you have no excuse for not getting this chore off your list.
