Putin fires his navy chief as Russia’s once feared Black Sea fleet collapses under Ukrainian barrage of drones and missiles
VLADIMIR Putin has fired his navy chief after Russia’s feared Black Sea Fleet collapsed following a brutal Ukrainian attack.
The tyrant’s warships have faced a barrage of drones and missiles in recent months, with many ships destroyed beyond repair.
After the losses Russia has now appointed Admiral Alexander Moiseev as the new commander of the Russian Navy.
According to the Fontanka, he will replace Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov news exhaust pipe.
According to reports, 61-year-old Moiseev, currently commander of the Northern Fleet, will soon be permanently appointed commander-in-chief of the Navy, but this has not been verified.
Fontanka, a private news service based in St. Petersburg, did not give any reason for the apparent dismissal.
It said the Navy’s press office had forwarded its request for comment to the Defense Ministry, which did not respond to the request.
Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov, Commander-in-Chief of the Navy since May 2019, is still listed in that role on the Ministry of Defense website.
Ukraine has stepped up attacks in recent months on the Black Sea and Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014.
Kiev has been notified a series of strikesincluding the sinking of a large landing ship by Navy drones in mid-February and a patrol ship this week.
A video clip from the patrol, the Sergey Kotov corvette, showed the ship blown to bits by a swarm of Ukrainian jet ski-powered sea drones.
The £51million ship was hit several times in the early morning attack near Feodosia, occupied Crimea.
The attack forced Kremlin officials to close Putin’s prized Kerch Bridge to Crimea.
Further dramatic footage captured another fierce naval battle struck by fear Russian sailors tried to avert a brutal Ukrainian kamikaze drone attack.
A GoPro video was taken on board the doomed £170 million Caesar Kunikov landing ship that exploded in a fireball and sank as a Valentine’s gift for President Putin.
Russia has not acknowledged such losses.
