Ryan Reynolds And Blake LivelyThe children of James, 8, Inez, 7, and Betty, 3, and an unnamed fourth child welcomed in February, have recognized the importance of their father’s football club.
“My relationship with my father was almost exclusively defined and held together by our mutual love of sports,” Reynolds, 47, said during a new episode of Welcome to Wrexham, released on Tuesday, November 7. “My children are obsessed with Wrexham. They’re obsessed with Wrexham.’
Reynolds and Lively’s eldest daughter, James, showed her love for Wrexham in one Welcome to Wrexham episode that premiered last month. At the time, Reynolds had taken his 8-year-old to Wales for a football match, which was full of excitement. (We weekly reported her rare appearance at the competition last January.)
While James’ face was blurred every time she was shown on camera, Reyolds was seen celebrating with his daughter by hugging her every time Wrexham scored a goal.
However, this week’s episode of the FX docuseries focused mainly on family relationships within Wrexham AFC. Co-chair Reynolds’ mother, Tammy Reynoldswas featured as she spoke about his father – late husband, James Chester Reynolds – who died in 2015 after a battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Wrexhmans co-co-chair Rob McElhenneyThe relatives of the family were also seen. While his father appeared earlier in the season, the actor’s mother, Helena McElhenneyand her wife, Mary Taylorwere on display this time.
Wrexham player Ollie Palmer and his father, Andy Palmer, were a focal point of the episode. CEO of Wrexham, Fleur Robinsonand her father, Ben Robinsonalso made an appearance.
“[Sports] is a safe place to always return to. So whatever happens. No matter how frayed or broken your relationship is, it’s a common ground that you can always come back to and reset and start over,” McElhenney, 46, said in the episode. “This is a generational experience and there are so many things that we inherit and pass on. When I think about this Wrexham experience I try to think of all the wonderful things that have been passed on to me and I try to take the best of those things and give them to my children.
McElhenney is the father of two sons, whom he shares with his wife Kaitlin Olson.
Olson, 48, actually appeared in the second Welcome to Wrexham episode that premiered on Tuesday. She was accompanied by her husband and them It’s always sunny in Philadelphia costars Charlie Day And Glenn Howerton as they watched Wrexham beat Yeovil Town 3 to 0 as the team’s quest for promotion to the English Football League came to an end.
Spoiler alert: Wrexham AFC were promoted to the EFL for the first time in 15 years last April.
