Julie Soussa revealed on social media the six ‘tacky’ things she would never buy, including labels and signage.

In her short clip, Julie said: “Things I would never buy as an interior designer.

“These things make a room cheaper. I have a running list, but here’s the first [six].”

Fake no

Firstly, Julie shared her thoughts on fake trees as she claimed: “Large leaf fake trees just scream plastic.

“The secret to fake trees that look realistic is smaller leaves.

“Avoid plastic. Real is always best, but you have to understand that some areas don’t allow this.”

Picture this

Not only this, but Julie then revealed her thoughts on unframed canvases, adding: ‘They look cheap because they’re cheaper.

“One of the ways to get the expensive look for less: make the frame yourself.

“But you can also buy mass-produced art and just paint over it.”

If you have a “Live, Love, Laugh” sign in your house, prepare to be attacked, as Julie shared: Three is signage.

“A good design stimulates your imagination and makes you think. Words leave you wondering.”

I couldn’t write it

Likewise, Julie also doesn’t like labels in houses, especially above doors.

She confessed: “Labels are the same. You need to know where your pantry is, so there’s no point in stressing about it.

“It just becomes a visual distraction.”

Loo knew?

When it comes to your bathroom, if you want a space that Julie would approve of, make sure there is no rug around your toilet.

Julie advised: “This one should go without saying: mats around the toilet.

“Having a pile of rugs like that in general doesn’t look good.

“Now people are getting a little more creative with their rugs. And if you are going to install one at all, make sure it is one larger rug and not several.”

Go for gold

Finally, if you are a fan of gold furniture, you should pay attention.

Julie concluded: “Lastly, that is fake, bright yellow, shiny gold.

“It means understanding that most of us can’t afford huge chunks of solid gold. But if you want it to look a bit more realistic, choose gold with an orange undertone.”

Big gap

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @the_avantgardehas clearly left many with their mouths open as it quickly racked up a whopping 190,800 views in just one day.

But social media users were completely divided over Julie’s claims – while some strongly agreed, not everyone was on the same page.

One user wrote: “I hate those labels! So sticky.”

A second chimed in: “Omg yessss to everything you said!”

While someone else wrote: “I DESPISE live laugh love houses. There I said it.”

Meanwhile, another wrote: “Your design tips are always on point.”

At the same time, however, many people agreed with Julie, especially about her aversion to unframed canvases.

I don’t agree with the frameless art

One person said: “My sister-in-law’s framed paintings are all over my house! Love them!”

Another added: “I like frameless canvases… I decorate what I like… I don’t care what guests think.”

A third commented: “I don’t agree with the frameless art.”

While another explained: “I don’t agree with the frameless art. Not only does it look good, but I have seen very expensive pieces that were not framed. It is a look in itself.”
