Kyle Sandilands has unleashed a barrage of abuse against Steve Price over The Project star’s disdain over his move to the Melbourne market.

Price, 68, called Sandilands, 52, a “grubby buffoon” on Wednesday night’s The Project after the radio star and his co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson signed a historic 10-year, $200 million deal with KIIS FM.

The next day, Sandilands responded with an astonishing response to the media veteran, calling him “a gronk” and “a piece of shit.”

But despite the aggressive nature of the message, Price told the newspaper Herald Sun Saturday that he was unfazed by Sandilands’ statements.

‘I described him as a grubby buffoon and that’s it, I’ve had my say, I don’t need to get into a long debate about that. Obviously I struck a nerve or he wouldn’t have responded,” Price said.

This came in response to Kyle’s expletive-filled voicemail to Price during the show on Thursday: “Hey piece of shit, we’ve talked before, last night you forgot you’re not allowed to talk about me. ‘

He went on to tell Price that his comments were “disappointing” and told him to “feel free to play this off.” [voicemail] about tonight’s Project.’

During the stunning rant, Sandilands also called Price “a gronk” and even called out The Project co-host Sarah Harris after she “mispronounced” his child’s name.

Harris referred to Sandilands’ son as “Otis” instead of his real name, Otto, during their segment about the shock jock.

Sandilands also refuted the claim that ‘Sydney people don’t work in Melbourne’, saying ‘you’re all demented.’

“Who cares if Melbourne doesn’t like us? We still get paid.”

Earlier this month, Kyle and Jackie O triumphed in the sixth radio ratings of the year, beating 2GB’s Ben Fordham in Sydney and achieving a 0.8 increase in audience share on last year.

Price discussed Sandilands and Jackie’s $200 million deal when he launched his rant on Wednesday night.

The deal will see the breakfast hosts broadcast in Melbourne, prompting host Sarah Harris to ask Price whether Victorians would take notice of Sandilands’ controversial style.

“Well, Sarah, Kyle is a grubby buffoon and I don’t think grubby buffoons work in Melbourne. I probably shouldn’t call him a grubby buffoon; he’s just a grub,” Price sneered.

‘Melbourne will not embrace the style of that program as it is now. Some of the sexually explicit material is off-putting,” he added.

Price is a veteran of AM radio in Melbourne whose attempts to break into the The Sydney market was notably unsuccessful.

On Wednesday morning, Kyle and Jackie signed their record deal, keeping them live on air until 2034.

An ARN spokesperson confirmed to Daily Mail Australia that the deal means Kyle and Jackie’s KIIS FM work friends Jase Hawkins and Lauren Phillips will be out of a job and their Melbourne breakfast show will end in December.

Lauren broke down in tears as she announced the news to her listeners on Wednesday, sobbing that she “didn’t want to say goodbye to Melbourne”.
