A traveler has praised two baggage handlers who comforted her dog as they loaded it onto the plane.

The woman, who was preparing to board a Virgin Australia flight, noticed the two men being extra careful as they loaded her dog, Daphne, onto the plane.

She uploaded a video to TikTok on Thursday showing workers carefully towing a trailer with a blue and orange container on top containing Daphne to the plane.

One worker, wearing a yellow hi-vis vest, began carefully loading the rectangular box onto the conveyor belt used to load the cargo onto the aircraft.

The other worker was seen adjusting the speed of the side conveyor belt before the pair carefully lifted the container onto the machine.

The baggage handlers guided the container along the conveyor belt until it was safely placed on the aircraft.

The female passenger didn’t let the act of kindness go unnoticed and added a caption to the video thanking the two staffers for treating her pooch with care.

“Daphne’s first flight and my heart melted when I saw how careful they were with her,” she wrote.

“Thank you Virgin Australia ground crew.”

Earlier in the video, one of the baggage handlers was seen kneeling and talking to the pet in an attempt to comfort her.

He checked the nameplate placed on the front of the container before sitting on the trailer while waiting to load the container onto the plane.

A Virgin spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia the airline is ensuring all passengers are taken care of during their journey.

“The health, safety and wellbeing of all Virgin Australia guests, including pets traveling with us, is our top priority,” the spokesperson said.

Dozens of users commented on the video, praising the “heartwarming” act.

‘This is so beautiful, all that love and respect for these kind of people!’ wrote one user.

“The way he guided him onto the conveyor belt,” said another.

‘Haha, that’s my dad! Don’t treat my dog like that, I’m just kidding, he has a heart of gold!!”

Visakhapatnam: Suryakumar Yadav, who led India for the first time, opined that he had left the ‘captaincy baggage’ in the dressing room as his 42-ball 80 laid the platform for India’s successful chase of 209 in the first T20I against Australia on Thursday. Ishan Kishan’s fifty and Rinku Singh’s heroics in the final also played a role in India’s victory as the Men in Blue took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

Sent to bat first, Australia rode on Josh Inglis’ first T20I hundred and Steve Smith’s fifty to post 208/3 in 20 overs. In reply, India lost both openers before Suryakumar and Kishan put on 112 runs for the third wicket.

Although Kishan was dismissed for 58, SKY kept the scoreboard going with his 16th T20I fifty before being bowled out for 80 with 14 needed from the last two overs. But Axar Patel made a big mistake and players like Ravi Bishnoi and Arshdeep Singh were also exhausted in no time.

With a single still needed on the last delivery, Sean Abbott was put in the stands by Rinku, but to everyone’s delight it turned out to be a big no-ball and therefore the maximum was not counted. So India won with a ball to spare.

What stood out, however, was Rinku’s fearlessness and sense of occasion and execution under pressure. ‘I thought there would be a little dew, but that wasn’t the case. It’s not a big field and I knew hitting was going to be easy. Thought they might get 230-235 but the bowlers did very well. Just enjoy and express yourself,” Suryakumar said after the match.

“We have been in such situations many times in franchise cricket and told Ishan to enjoy it. We knew what was going to happen. I left the captain’s luggage in the locker room. I try to enjoy my percussion. The atmosphere was great, partly thanks to the audience. It was great to see how the boys held their nerves.

“It was great to see Rinku, the situation was tailor-made for him. He was calm and collected, calmed me down a bit. An incredible performance by the bowlers to restrict them to this total after the 16th over,” added SKY, who became India’s 13th T20I men’s captain.

Asked about his feelings about his new role, the Mumbai Indians batsman said it will take time to sink in. “It’s a proud moment, a very proud moment. Every time you play you think about representing India, but coming here and captaining India is a big moment,” he added.

Domestic passengers can currently use the facility and it will be made available to international passengers following mandatory approvals.

After passengers generate their boarding passes and baggage tags at the Self Check-In kiosk, they must tag their checked baggage.

New Delhi: Airline passengers will have less time to wait at the airport as Delhi airport operator DIAL said on Monday it has introduced the Self Baggage Drop (SBD) facility at Terminal 3 to reduce waiting time for passengers.

Here’s how it will help airline passengers

The Self Baggage Drop (SBD) facility at the airport will streamline the baggage drop process, reduce passenger waiting time by approximately 15-20 minutes and further enhance the overall airport experience.

In addition, the facility can serve up to three passengers per minute, according to Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL).

Domestic passengers can currently use the facility and it will be made available to international passengers following mandatory approvals.

To operate the facility, a total of 14 SBD machines have been installed, including 12 automated and two hybrids.

“Currently, passengers traveling with IndiGo can use the facility, but five other airlines, including Air India, Vistara, Air France, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and British Airways, are likely to allow the use of self-baggage drop for their passengers in the near future,” DIAL said in a statement.

Here’s how to use the facility

According to the airport, airline passengers can use the SBD facility through a two-step process. After passengers generate their boarding passes and baggage tags at the Self Check-In kiosk, they must tag their checked baggage.

At the SBD facility, they must scan their boarding pass, certify that their baggage is free of prohibited/dangerous items, and load their baggage onto the designated belt. Upon completion of the process, the baggage will be automatically taken to the sorting area and then to the aircraft.

If the weight of the checked baggage exceeds the limit allowed by the airline, the checked baggage will not be accepted by the machine. There will be airline personnel near the facility to assist passengers.

“DIAL has worked relentlessly to maximize the passenger experience at Delhi Airport through various digitization and automation initiatives. The Self-Baggage Drop facility aims to make the passengers self-reliant while significantly reducing the time taken for baggage handling…,” said Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO of DIAL.

DIAL, a consortium led by GMR Airport Infrastructure Ltd, operates the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in the national capital.

It’s a Mexican fight with the airline flight attendant and you blink first. Now the overhead bag you hoped would go unnoticed is headed straight for the baggage tester.

Your heart sinks as the inflated case rests on the sturdy metal rungs. He doesn’t even try to penetrate it. As the steward pulls out a strip of stickers, you know it’s game over.

There’s nothing worse than ruining your fast-paced city break with unnecessary queues to pick up your luggage. But careful planning and all this could have been avoided.

With the summer holidays just around the corner, travel experts have revealed their tips for saving luggage space and avoiding having to put your luggage in the hold.

With the baggage tax, holidaymakers may notice that they can only bring a backpack on the flight – unless they want to pay more for their checked baggage (File image)

The most depressing part of any vacation... the relentless waiting in the baggage carousel

The most depressing part of any vacation… the relentless waiting in the baggage carousel

Many low cost airlines now offer cheap flights, but on the basis that you either add the cost of luggage later or bring a backpack.

A rural one Research showed that a third of Britons have had to pay excess baggage surcharges when at the airport, amounting to more than £490 million in 2022 alone.

Every airline is different, but at UK airports charges can range from £11 per kg of overweight checked baggage to an eye-watering £65 for overweight checked baggage.

As the holidays approach, travel experts join Panache Cruises shared their best tips for avoiding paying the dreaded overweight baggage fee.

Here are seven ways vacationers can avoid excess baggage charges…

1. Use duty-free bags

After a small purchase in one of the shops at the airport, you can take the Duty Free bags on your flight without them being counted as extra baggage (File image)

Duty-free bags do not count as hand luggage, so if a passenger buys something at the airport, they can use the bag.

And you should also look into buying toiletries at the airport, after check-in and security to clear your weight allowance for other items.

This is also a great method to get more liquids on board.

2. Pillow it up

This tip went viral last year and is pure genius. All you need to do is empty a pillowcase or one of those flight pillows and cram it into your stuff (File Image)

This tip went viral last year and is pure genius. All you need to do is empty a pillowcase or one of those flight pillows and cram it into your stuff (File Image)

This hack is pure genius, because clothes – even rolled up – take up so much space.

And if you really don’t want to leave that hat and swimsuit behind, this simple trick will help you avoid cramming your bags while still having plenty of summer outfits to choose from.

All you need to do is empty a pillowcase or one of those flight pillows and cram your stuff in, making sure to empty the pillow afterward.

And this tip went viral last year after a student posted a video showing how to avoid paying for extra baggage by packing extra clothes in an empty pillowcase on a flight.

3. Travel in the heaviest clothing

This could be the oldest trick in the book. But just because it’s an oldie doesn’t mean it isn’t gold.

For this hack, vacationers only need to wear their bulkiest items like hoodies and shoes.

This creates more space in your suitcase – and keeps you warm during the flight.

Travelers should use the pockets of their bulky clothes to hold more stuff if they are still concerned about the weight of the suitcase.

4. Layer up

While sometimes impractical, layering is a great way to free up luggage space. Under a coat, no one will know you're wearing two more sweaters, a bikini, and five tops (File image)

While sometimes impractical, especially in warm weather, layering is a great way to free up luggage space. Under a jacket, no one will notice that you are wearing two more sweaters, a bikini and five tops.

Once travelers get on board, they can undress in their original outfit, because technically no one is allowed to say anything.

While this strategy may lead to vacationers carrying bundles of clothing in-flight, it’s definitely an option if they’re desperate to travel on the cheap.

5. Invest in a travel vest

This may be a better solution than sweating during the flight.

Portable luggage, which offers a variety of pockets to fit small items, would be a great investment for frequent flyers who don’t want to pay extra for luggage.

They are an incredibly functional item to have, often lightweight, that travelers can use to safely store their valuables and gadgets.

6. Save space for souvenirs

Buying a souvenir from the destination you just left is a must. But it also means carrying extra weight in your luggage when you return (File image)

Buying a souvenir from the destination you just left is a must. But it also means carrying extra weight in your luggage when you return (File image)

Bringing home a memento from different parts of the world is a big part of many people’s travel experiences.

That’s why it’s important to plan ahead for the extra additions you can add to your luggage towards the end of your trip or risk a hefty load on your way home.

If you’re looking for something generic, like a small magnet, a chocolate, or a bottle of something else, you can even buy it at the airport and use the duty-free bag to save space.

7. Invest in the best travel bag

Airlines can be very strict about the size and weight of hand luggage and suitcases.

That’s why it’s important to shop around for the best luggage.

Investing in a lightweight bag can help travelers pack heavier items.

But always make sure your new bag fits the specific dimensions of each airline’s policy.

Have you ever wondered what it takes to get your airplane luggage from A to B in one piece?

Well, according to a baggage handler, hard work goes on behind the scenes, with a very early start, lots of walking and cold temperatures being some of the efforts.

Rachel Bacha of Idaho works for Delta Air Lines as a ramp agent – also known as a baggage handler – and in a series of TikToks she reveals what her typical days look like, including the 2:35 a.m. start.

Some of her days can be 14 hours long, but most of the time she works between 4am and 12am.

Rachel has been a disaster cop for four years and her workload has gradually increased

In a video, she explains that after waking up at 4 a.m. for four years, she learned some techniques to make sure she doesn’t fall asleep again.

First, she says, “When I hear my alarm clock, I get out of bed. I don’t hit snooze once. It sucks now, but it’s gonna suck in five minutes.”

Another of her crafty tricks is to always have something to look forward to.

This might include trying a new coffee pod or rustling up her favorite breakfast, which consists of sliced banana and peanut butter on toast, sprinkled with cinnamon.

‘[It’s] just little, simple things, so when you wake up you have something to look forward to,” explains Rachel.

After leaving home, the avid traveler usually goes to work at 3:50 am.

Once she puts on a safety vest, she goes to work in the baggage area, where “all the bags go after you check them in for your flight.”

In the baggage area, there is a conveyor belt that the baggage passes through, with ramp agents loading it onto small trucks or carts.

Before the luggage arrives, Rachel says she’s getting the carts ready and in position.

She also checks the computer ‘to see how many passengers there are, because then I can properly estimate how many bags I can expect’.

Once all the carts are full – usually about 35 minutes until departure – someone will come to the baggage area to remove the baggage carts.

When she has time, Rachel says she’ll take the carts out to load the plane and then get ready for the next flight.

She muses, “For the most part, there’s a fairly steady stream of bags coming onto the belt.

“From 4 a.m. to 6 a.m., I can expect anywhere from 200 to 250 bags, depending on whether it’s a heavy travel day or not.”

In addition to standard suitcases, Rachel must ensure that oversized luggage including bicycles, strollers, surfboards, walking sticks [and] golf bags’ are carefully transferred to the correct aircraft.

From about 6:30am to 9:30am she says “there are only two small flights going out so it’s a bit slower in the bag room.”

During this time, she works on her crochet project and gets her snacks and breakfast from the break room.

After a pause, she will get her carts ready for the next flights and then “pretty much from here for the rest of the day, it’s pretty busy in the bag room.”

Rachel reveals that she usually clocks 15,000 to 16,000 steps per shift in the luggage compartment.

Other tasks she performs as part of her job include de-icing the planes, shunting the plane, and pushing the planes back.

Although Rachel says disaster agent shifts seem long, “they actually go by so quickly.”

However, she adds that they still leave her “pretty exhausted.”
