Celebrity Big Brother star Louis Walsh appeared visibly stunned on Friday evening after he was booed by the live audience.

The former X Factor judge, 71, avoided eviction during the live show after he was up against David Potts, Ekin-Su Culculoglu, Fern Britton and Levi Roots.

However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for Louis, as when hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best announced the eviction nominees, boos could be heard coming from the crowd each time his name was mentioned.

After hearing the boos, Louis appeared shocked and gasped, however, he quickly brushed them off by pulling a face to show he was not bothered by their dislike towards him.

Despite the crowd’s negative reaction towards him, Louis managed to survive the eviction.

However, the same can’t be said for celebrity chef Levi Roots and former Love Island winner Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, as both stars were voted out at the same time.

The live eviction comes after a dramatic nominations twist during Thursday’s episode, where housemates had to vote face-to-face.

It comes after Louis revealed that he was diagnosed with a ‘rare’ type of cancer in 2020 as he spoke about the major health scare for the first time during Friday’s episode of Celebrity Big Brother.

The Irish music manager confessed he had Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia, a rare type of blood cancer, but has since been given the all-clear after receiving treatment in Dublin during lockdown.

And now friends of the star have opened up about Louis’ illness and explained that is the reason he has been sleeping so much in the ITV reality show.

The star has been seen napping often in the Big Brother house, with his pals revealing ‘you can see how frail he is’.

Speaking about his health to The Mirror, his friends said: ‘Louis is in remission currently but you can see how frail he is and that he has lost a lot of weight. It’s also the reason why he’s sleeping so much, it all took a lot out of him.’

Louis revealed during the episode that the cancer diagnosis came as a ‘shock’ and gave him a ‘reality check’ and his pals explained that it was the driving force behind him signing up for the Big Brother show.

However, it wasn't all smooth sailing for Louis, as when hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best announced the eviction nominees, boos could be heard coming from the crowd each time his name was mentioned

They continued: ‘The whole experience was the main driver behind signing up for the show. He’d been really ill and just wanted to enjoy life again and thought “What the hell”.’

They added: ‘It’s little wonder he has decided to immerse himself in the Celebrity Big Brother house. It’s almost as a reaction to what has happened. It was quite the ordeal, not least as the cancer is so rare that it took a while to get diagnosed.’

Louis discussed his health with Levi and Ekin-Su on Friday he told the pair that ‘no one knew he was sick’.

Levi asked how Louis spent the Coronavirus lockdown, he replied: ‘I was sick, and I think nobody knew I was sick. I had cancer. A mild version, a rare one.’

Levi asked: ‘Which part? Pancreatic Cancer?’

‘In my blood, I didn’t even know that I had it until I went to the hospital, and then they checked me, checked me, checked me, then they found it.

‘They said it’s a rare one, and I said [shrugs] gone. replied Louis.

The music manager admitted being diagnosed with cancer left him in ‘shock’ and gave him a ‘reality check’.

He continued: ‘It did affect me mentally, I got to be honest with you. [Points to his head] It’s just up here, even when I go past a hospital I almost get sick.

‘It’s all gone, I’m fine. It was just the shock of being sick and that word…nobody wants that word.

‘I have it blocked out, a reality check, you see so many people sick and it’s terrible.

‘In my world, it was all about pop music and all that. I didn’t think of anybody getting sick or anything like that. And that was like wow reality check, you’re in the real world.’

Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia (also known as lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma) is a rare form of low-grade lymphoma (a type of bone marrow cancer), which is associated in most cases with the presence of an excessive amount of abnormal protein in the blood.

Before entering the house, Louis revealed he had signed up to the ITV show to have fun after attending two recent funerals for friends that gave him a reality check about his mortality.

It comes after Louis's pals spoke out about his 'rare' blood cancer as they explained his REAL reason for taking part in the reality show

He told the Mirror: ‘I don’t want to be in my final chapter, I want to live. I want to enjoy myself. I don’t want to die. But then it makes sense that you get to this age and think, why not? Life’s too short.

‘I’ve lost some people in my life recently and that changes you. I went to two funerals. Yeah, It’s a reality check, for sure. It makes you think about what life is all about. It makes you rethink what’s important and what you care about. Losing friends makes you think about your own mortality.

‘I want to enjoy myself more. I want to see the world. Everywhere. I don’t have a bucket list. I don’t like that word. I just want to see the rest of the world. I just want to enjoy life – live, love and laugh. I don’t want to be older and think if only I had done that. I don’t want to do that no. There’s no time for regrets. I’m happy. It comes after viewers were left furious when Louis ordered Nikita Kuzmin to ‘stop crying’ in tense scenes on Thursday night.

Louis scolded the Strictly star, 26, during the shocking face-to-face nominations, when the latter began crying while voting for the former.

The housemates were ordered to kiss the co-star they nominated – and when a sobbing Nikita approached Louis after saying he was lazy around the house, the septuagenarian spat: ‘Stop crying for God’s sake’.

Nikita – who stated: ‘I don’t think Louis has helped around the house as much as everyone else has, that’s my reason’, before Louis’ slur – has scored legions of fans since entering the house, many of whom swarmed Twitter after the moment.

Angry fans penned: ‘LOUIS TELLING NIKITA TO ‘STOP CRYING FOR GOD’S SAKE’ YOU ARE A BITTER EMOTIONLESS OLD MAN LEAVE MY BABY ALONE… @kuzmin__nikita is so pure Louis is vile we must protect Nikita at all cost!!!…’

Louis Walsh revealed he was diagnosed with a ‘rare’ form of cancer in 2020 as he spoke about the major health concerns for the first time on Friday.

The former X Factor star, 71, revealed he had Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia, a rare form of blood cancer, but all has since cleared up after receiving treatment in Dublin.

When discussing his health with Levi and Ekin-Su on Celebrity Big Brother, he told the pair that ‘no one knew he was sick’.

Levi asked how Louis was spending the coronavirus lockdown, he replied: “I was sick, and I don’t think anyone knew I was sick. I had cancer. A mild version, a rare one.’

“They said it was rare, and I said [shrugs] away. Away,” Louis replied.

The music manager admitted that the cancer diagnosis left him in ‘shock’ and gave him a ‘reality check’.

He continued: “It has affected me mentally, I have to be honest with you. [Points to his head] it’s just here, even if I go to a hospital, I almost get sick.

What is Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia?

  • Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia is also known as lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma.
  • It is a rare form of low-grade lymphoma (a type of bone marrow cancer), which in most cases is associated with the presence of an excessive amount of abnormal protein in the blood.
  • Due to the rarity of the condition, University College London Hospital has the largest referral practice for this condition in the UK
  • The cancer usually develops over a long period of time, with some people having no symptoms. It may be discovered if blood tests are done for another reason.
  • Symptoms may be caused by lymphoma cells building up in the bone marrow. The lymphoma cells take up space, making it difficult for the bone marrow to produce enough normal blood cells.
  • The most common symptoms are: feeling weak and tired (fatigue), looking very pale or feeling breathless due to a lack of red blood cells (anaemia), repeated infections due to a lack of healthy white blood cells (which help fight infections), easy bruising or bleeding heavy, drenching night sweats weight loss.

He told the Mirror: ‘I don’t want to be in my last chapter, I want to live. I want to enjoy. I do not wanna die. But then it makes sense that you reach this age and think: why not? Life is too short.

‘I’ve lost a number of people in my life lately and it changes you. I’ve been to two funerals. Yes, it’s definitely a reality check. It makes you think about what life is about. It makes you think about what is important and what you care about. Losing friends makes you think about your own mortality.

‘I want to enjoy more. I want to see the world. Everywhere. I don’t have a bucket list. I don’t like that word. I just want to see the rest of the world. Early detection of colon cancer can potentially prevent a majority of deaths from this disease 73 percent theirs. But just 50 to 75 percent middle-aged and older adults who need regular screening to be tested.

One reason, doctors say, is that the screening methods scare many people away.

For people at average risk, there are two options: a colonoscopy every 10 years or a fecal test every one to three yearsdepending on the type of test.

Or, as Dr. Folasade P. May, a gastroenterologist at UCLA Health, says: “Either you take this horrible laxative and then a doctor puts an instrument on your butt, or you have to manipulate your own poop.”

But something much simpler is in store: a blood test. Gastroenterologists say such tests could become part of the routine blood tests that doctors order when someone comes for an annual physical, for example.

“I think this is going to take off,” said Dr. John M. Carethers, a gastroenterologist and vice chancellor for health sciences at the University of California, San Diego.

About 53,000 Americans are expected to die from colorectal cancer this year. It is the second most common cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, and while the death rate has decreased among older adults, it has increased among people under age 55.

Current guidelines recommend screenings from age 45. The problem is causing more people to get screened.

Enter the blood test. It takes advantage of the discovery that colon cancer and large polyps – clumps of cells lining the colon that occasionally turn into cancer – release fragments of DNA in the blood.

a study published Wednesday in The New England Journal of Medicine found that a blood test that looks for such DNA, called Shield and made by the company Guardant Health, revealed 87 percent of cancers were in early and curable stages. The false positive rate was 10 percent.

“This will be big news,” said Dr. May, an advisor to Exact Sciences, maker of the Cologuard fecal test.

But there’s a caveat to the blood test: Although it detects cancers, it misses most large polyps; he finds only 13 percent of it. In contrast, the fecal test detects 43 percent and a colonoscopy finds 94 percent, said Dr. Carethers.

Although polyps are usually harmless, a few can turn into cancer. Therefore, doctors want to find and remove them all to prevent the formation of cancer.

Dr. Barbara Jung, chair of the department of medicine at the University of Washington and president of the American Gastroenterological Association, said patients should be fully informed before opting for a blood test. In particular, they need to understand that while this test helps detect cancer at an early stage, it does not prevent it because it is not good at detecting precancerous polyps.

“We need to have that discussion,” with patients, she said. But, she added, “much of this will end up with GPs who already have very little time to get through a litany of screenings and counselling.”

Doctors will also need to explain to patients that if the blood test result is abnormal, they should schedule a colonoscopy to detect polyps or cancer early and remove them if they are present.

It is also not clear how often people should take the blood test. Guardant suggested every three years, but that recommendation is not well supported, Dr. Jung said.

Dr. Jung added that she would like to know whether the blood test performs well in people who are too young to qualify for existing screening tests. But this requires additional research. She is concerned about the rising rates of colon cancer among younger people. It would be “very attractive,” she said, if people could get a blood test for colon cancer at age 30.

“That would be my biggest excitement,” said Dr. Jung.

The big unknown, however, is the costs. Guardant has applied to the Food and Drug Administration for approval to commercialize the test. The company now sells it as a “laboratory-based test,” which does not require FDA approval but is also not covered by health insurance. For those who want to pay out of pocket, the price is $895. But, said Matt Burns, a spokesman for Guardant, the company will work with Medicare and Medicaid and private insurers to “finalize prices” if they become approved, said Matt Burns, a spokesman for Guardant.

Dr. William Grady, the medical director of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center’s Gastrointestinal Cancer Prevention Program who is a corresponding author on the Guardant-sponsored study, said the company might settle on a price that makes it comparable to the price of the other screening methods. The costs of the Cologuard fecal test $581 to $681. Colonoscopies, which are usually needed half as often, tend to cost $1,250 to $4,800, although some hospitals charge more. The average cost of a colonoscopy in the United States is $2,750. The tests are usually covered by insurance.

Dr. May cautioned that patients should know that these three screening tests are not equivalent. With the blood test, she said, “we are moving from prevention to early detection.”

But, she said, the blood test is quite simple. When a doctor requests routine blood tests, all that needs to be done is a colorectal cancer test.

“That’s phenomenally exciting,” she said.

And the ease of use could outweigh the test’s limitations, said Dr. Carethers, who wrote an editorial team in the journal associated with the research. After all, he said, the goal of screening is to reduce the number of deaths from colon cancer for the population as a whole.

If a blood test means that many more people are screened, the result – fewer deaths from colon cancer – will be favorable.

“The best screening test is the one completed by the patient,” he wrote.

Crime scene investigators (CSI) know how to track down a murder on Earth.

But catching a killer in space is a whole different story – and that’s why a new field of ‘astroforensics’ is beginning to unfold.

Bloodstain patterns will look different in a microgravity environment, so traditional formulas used to analyze them are less accurate, a researcher said. new study.

“As humanity evolves into a space-faring species, the risk of injury from multiple means and intentions will follow,” the report explains.

“Expanding the understanding of how forensic science adapts to extraterrestrial environments is a new and inevitable extension to the next forensic frontier.”

Experts used a parabolic research aircraft – also known as the ‘vomit comet’ – to see how blood splatters can appear in short periods of microgravity in a unique study.

In a glove box, researchers pressed a syringe of blood-like fluid next to a sheet of white paper during free fall, so see how it would land.

In addition to violent crimes, experts believe blood spatter will be useful in investigating space accidents.

In a sequel report Writing in The Conversation, Professor Graham Williams and PhD student Zack Kowalske noted that this action, while “bearing little resemblance to real-world criminal scenarios”, yielded important findings regarding blood patterns in microgravity.

“We found that microgravity does indeed change the behavior of the blood droplets and the stains they create,” the pair explained.

Astronauts hail bizarre gadgets to escape ‘artificial’ ISS and say it feels like they’re back on Earth

‘On Earth, blood tends to fall parabolically, with gravity pulling on it until it hits a surface.

‘But in this case the blood continued to flow in a straight line until it hit the surface.

“The second important observation was the dispersive action of the blood upon hitting the surface.”

Without gravity, a blood splatter has a smaller spot shape and size than on Earth.

“In Earth’s typical gravitational environment, liquid blood droplets will undergo a series of stages in the staining process,” Williams and Kowalske said.

“This involves the collapse of the droplet, the formation of a small wave and its propagation into a final spot shape.

“However, when gravity is eliminated from this action, the spreading action is inhibited by the dominant force of surface tension and cohesion, resulting in a spot shape and size smaller than its terrestrial twin.”

A group of diners vomited blood after being served dry ice as a mouth freshener at an Indian restaurant.

Five people fell ill at La Forestta Cafe in the northern Indian city of Gurugram after consuming the sugar and spice mix, which was traditionally served after a meal in some Indian restaurants.

The restaurant’s manager was arrested Tuesday and charged with poisoning “with intent to cause pain.” the BBC reported.

The five diners are seen sticking out their tongues, with one screaming and the other spitting out water in footage that has gone viral.

All were hospitalized after the incident, the publication reported.

According to Indian news channel NDTV, two of them are said to be in critical condition.

After their meal, a waiter offered the group a packet of mouth freshener, but as soon as they consumed it, their mouths began to burn and bleed and they began vomiting.

Police said the mixture contained dry ice – a solid form of carbon dioxide popular for its smoke-like vapor and cooling properties.

Those who became ill were part of a group of six who had eaten at the restaurant, police said.

Ankit Kumar, a resident of Greater Noida city who was having dinner with his wife and their four friends, did not consume the mix and reported it to the police, said The Street Times.

‘I showed the packet of mouth freshener to a doctor, who said it was dry ice. According to the doctor, it is an acid that can lead to death,” Kumar said.

The customers said in their complaint that employees refused to help them.

The case is under investigation and police said they were conducting a forensic analysis of the contents.

The owner of the restaurant is also being sought.

Nearly half of American adults have high blood pressure, but only a quarter of those with hypertension it under controlaccording to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

High blood pressure “is a smoldering public health crisis,” says Dr. Rishi K. Wadhera, an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and author of new research showing that blood pressure tests have not returned to what they were before the corona pandemic.

High blood pressure is possible increase the risk of heart attack or stroke, pregnancy complications and other health problems, but the symptoms are “often silent,” said Dr. Wadhera.

“I’m afraid it’s going under the radar for a lot of patients,” he added.

Here’s what you need to know about the problem and how to get your blood pressure under control.

Blood pressure is the force that blood exerts exerts force against the artery walls in the heart, said Dr. Jim Liu, a cardiologist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. You always hear your blood pressure as two numbers: The top number, known as the systolic pressure, measures the force when the heart contracts. The bottom number, known as diastolic pressure, measures the force when the heart muscle relaxes. Are measured in units known as millimeters of mercuryor mm Hg.

You can have your blood pressure checked during a doctor’s appointment or at the pharmacy, or you can check it yourself with a home monitor. The American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology define normal blood pressure as under 120/80 mm Hg. The CDC defines high blood pressure as 130/80 mm Hg or higher.

Very high blood pressure can cause symptoms including severe headache, chest pain and dizziness. However, for many people, blood pressure rises too gradually to notice these problems, said Dr. Liu.

High blood pressure forces the heart to work harder to pump blood. Over time, the overwhelmed heart can slowly start to malfunction and have trouble pumping blood to the rest of the body, a condition called heart failure.

The force and friction of high blood pressure can be too damage the delicate lining of the arteries, said Dr. Liu. Tears in the artery wall cause LDL cholesterol – also known as ‘bad’ cholesterol – to settle and form lumps or plaques in these holes. This can block blood flow and cause a heart attack in some patients.

Blockages in the arteries that carry blood to the brain can lead to a stroke. Long-term damage to the blood vessels in the brain is also possible lead to a condition called vascular dementiasaid dr. Liu.

All arteries stiffen over time, causing blood pressure to rise steadily as people age. At the age of 75, an estimated one 80 percent of men and 86 percent of women in the United States have high blood pressure.

Several risk factors have been associated with high blood pressure, including smoking, drinking heavily, obesity and chronic stress. A lack of exercise and diets high in nutrients sodium and processed foods have also been associated with an increased risk of hypertension.

For some people, lifestyle changes can be as powerful as medication, said Dr. Martha Gulati, director of preventive cardiology at the Smidt Heart Institute at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles. She recommends it at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise per day and sleep seven to nine hours a night, both of which are associated with lower blood pressure. Maintaining or achieving a healthy body weight can also lower blood pressure, said Dr. Gulati.

Avoiding products that contain nicotine is important. Using nicotine drives up blood pressurenarrows blood vessels and can contribute to hardening of the arteries, according to the American Heart Association.

Some research suggests that following a low-sodium diet could lower blood pressure in some patients by two to eight mm Hg, and that adopting the DASH diet – which emphasizes fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy products – could lower blood pressure by eight to fourteen points could be reduced. Abstaining from alcohol or limiting consumption to no more than one drink per day for women and two drinks per day for men could lower blood pressure by two to four points.

People who cannot lower their blood pressure to normal levels through lifestyle changes will need medications, said Dr. Gulati. Water pills or diuretics help remove sodium and water from the body, lowering blood pressure. Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) both relax blood vessels, although they work in different ways. Calcium channel blockers help relax the muscle cells of the blood vessels, and some slow your heart rate. People who cannot lower their blood pressure with these medications may need additional medications. Doctors consider a patient’s age, health, and risk factors before deciding which medication to prescribe.

“Blood pressure is the most modifiable risk factor for heart disease and stroke,” said Dr. Gulati. “With lifestyle changes and medications, our patients can take control of their health – and their heart health.”

The crash occurred on a downhill slope and while McCutcheon was driving at a high rate of speed, she lost control of the steering wheel, unable to reach for her brakes, causing the 19-year-old to fall face first into the bottom of a sand hill.

The impact knocked her unconscious, but after regaining consciousness, McCutcheon managed to crawl to the top of the sand hill to call for help, as no one had witnessed the crash.

Paramedics then treated her and McCutcheon was rushed to the Royal Melbourne Hospital where she underwent nose surgery after falling in and out of consciousness for an hour and a half.

The rider, from Queensland, Australia, was left black and blue after crushing her nose, breaking both eye sockets, the left cheekbone, the left jaw and her upper jaw – the main facial bone.

She is set to undergo further surgery to treat her facial injuries, with McCutcheon saying she is ‘thankful to be alive’ after revealing her helmet saved her life.

McCuthceon shared an update on Instagram and thanked those who came to her aid.

She wrote in the caption: “Grateful to still be here🤍

“We have yet to find out what cut my face as it is still unknown. This is as much information as we can gather from what we know as I don’t remember anything and no one has really seen much of it. But thanks again for everyone who messaged or called me.

“Especially to everyone who helped me during my incident, I would like to thank you all more than anything!!

“There was definitely someone by my side that day and I’m just blessed to be here. Enjoy each day as it comes.

A California man is about to be declared cured of HIV and blood cancer.

Paul Edmonds, 68, who made international headlines last year when he shared his story, still has no traces of either condition five years after he received a cell transplant that rid his body of both diseases.

In a new article from the medical team that treated him, doctors said he was officially cured of cancer and would be declared cured of HIV in two years – while he will be off medication since 2020.

Edmonds’ medical journey began when he was diagnosed with AIDS in 1988, at a time when the virus was often a death sentence for many gay men.

Despite watching so many of his friends die from the infection, he persevered and lived happily married to his husband, until a devastating leukemia diagnosis in 2018 seemed to ruin their future plans.

He was being treated for the cancer with stem cell therapy, which replaces stem cells damaged by chemotherapy with healthy cells from a donor – when doctors saw a unique opportunity: finding a donor with an HIV-resistant genetic mutation.

Paul Edmonds, 68, (pictured) became the fifth person ever to be cured of HIV after a rare stem cell treatment

Freddie Mercury had symptoms of HIV/AIDS in 1982, but was not officially diagnosed until 1987. He announced his diagnosis the day before he died in 1991.

Rock Hudson was diagnosed with AIDS in 1984 and the following year he was one of the first celebrities to make his diagnosis public. He was also the first major American celebrity to die of AIDS in 1985

Rock Hudson (right) was diagnosed with AIDS in 1984 and became one of the first celebrities to announce his diagnosis the following year. He was also the first major American celebrity to die of AIDS in 1985

Doctors were eager to see if they could replicate the success of previous patients who had been cured of HIV and cancer in this way.

Mr. Edmonds is one of only five to beat both diseases and the oldest person to do so.

“I’m extremely grateful … I can’t thank them enough,” Mr. Edmonds said of his doctors at the City of Hope clinic in California.

Mr. Edmonds, of Desert Hot Springs in Riverside County, received a stem cell transplant, the final part of treatment for blood cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma.

It is given when the blood-forming stem cells in a patient’s bone marrow have been killed by radiation or chemotherapy.

Stem cells are special human cells that can develop into many different cell types, such as muscle cells or brain cells.

Healthy, blood-producing stem cells from a donor with similar genes are transplanted into the patient, allowing them to produce cancer-free blood.

In Mr. Edmonds’ case, the donated stem cells also had a rare genetic mutation linked to resistance to HIV-1.

He was diagnosed with HIV and AIDS in 1988, at the height of the national epidemic, which he says felt like a death sentence.

“People died within a few years of finding out they were positive,” he said of his experience with AIDS in San Francisco in the 1980s. “There was a dark cloud hanging over the city.”

Mr Edmonds had been receiving antiretroviral therapy for HIV since 1997, which had suppressed his virus to undetectable levels.

But the therapy does not completely cure HIV, so the virus was always present in his immune cells in the blood.

This means that if therapy is stopped, the virus begins to multiply and becomes detectable in the blood again.

He was diagnosed with leukemia in 2018. Older patients with HIV often develop blood cancers because of their weakened immune systems.

Mr Edmonds’ cancer – acute myeloid leukemia (AML) – is a form of blood cancer that starts in young white blood cells in the bone marrow.

About 19,500 new cases occur in the U.S. each year.

Symptoms may include: fatigue, fever, frecent infections, beasy rustling or bleeding, including nosebleeds or heavy periods, and weight loss.

The exact cause of AML is unclear.

Transplant patients must first go into remission for cancer, which usually requires intensive chemotherapy so that the cancer cells are removed.

Giving chemotherapy to patients receiving IV antiretroviral therapy, as Mr. Edmonds did, can be difficult because chemotherapy can briefly undermine a patient’s immune system.

In November 2018, Mr. Edmonds began chemotherapy. He needed three rounds to achieve remission, which was achieved in mid-January 2019.

The following month, Mr. Edmonds received stem cells from his donor.

The stem cells he received contained two copies of a rare genetic mutation called CCR5 delta-3, which makes people resistant to HIV.

Only one to two percent of the population has this mutation.

HIV uses the receptor CCR5 to invade and attack the immune system, but the CCR5 mutation prevents the virus from entering this way.

The transplant completely swapped Mr. Edmond’s bone marrow and blood stem cells with those of the donor.

Since the transplant, he has shown no signs of AML or HIV.

In March 2021, Mr Edmonds stopped taking his HIV medication and had his HIV levels checked once a week to ensure the virus had not returned.

Each time no virus was detected.

Mr Edmonds is one of only five people worldwide to have gone into remission following a stem cell transplant.

“The case of City of Hope shows that it is possible to achieve remission from HIV even at an older age and after living with HIV for many years,” said Dr. Jana Dickter, clinical professor in the Department of Infectious Diseases at City of Hope.

‘Additionally, remission can be achieved with a lower intensity regimen than the therapy received by the four other patients who went into remission for HIV and cancer.’

“As people with HIV continue to live longer, there will be more options for personalized treatments for their blood cancer,” she added.

“For those who would benefit from a stem cell transplant to treat their cancer, the idea that they can simultaneously go into remission from HIV is astonishing,” Dr. Dickter said.

The case was described in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Dr. Stephen Forman, a professor in the Department of Hematology and Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation, said the hospital “didn’t stop there.”

“Our researchers are working, among other things, to create stem cells with the genetic mutation that makes them naturally resistant to HIV,” he said.

If left untreated, HIV can lead to AIDS, and without medication people typically survive for about three years.

Since the epidemic began in 1981, an estimated 36.3 million people have died from AIDS-related diseases.

About 1.2 million Americans have HIV, and although there is currently no cure, medications reduce the amount of virus in the body by preventing the virus from replicating. This means that it cannot be transmitted to others and cannot cause harm to the body.

Symptoms include fever and muscle aches, headache, sore throat, night sweats and diarrhea, but some can last ten years or more without symptoms.

Treatment options have evolved significantly since HIV was first identified in the early 1980s. The progression of treatment went from patients having to take multiple pills a day that may not even work well at first, to taking just one daily pill that combines all known therapies into one.

Gene editing experts think they are on the verge of a cure for HIV, after three patients in the US were injected with genetic material along with an enzyme called CAS9.

Early studies suggest the enzyme can cut away parts of the virus’s DNA that become stuck in human cells, eliminating it completely.

The current study aims to prove the treatment is safe, but data on how well it works is expected next year.

Delhi News: In a gruesome incident, a schoolboy died of injuries after he was brutally beaten by a group of unidentified assailants in New Usmanpur area of Delhi on Friday. According to police, the victim, a class 8 student at a private school, was found drenched in his own blood with serious injuries to his head, face and left hand.

A senior official said the deceased boy’s blood was found smeared at several places along the road, indicating that the attackers had dragged him away.

“The incident took place at around 2.15 pm at Sant Ravidas Gali in Brahmpuri and police received information about it from JPC Hospital at 4.04 pm,” police said, adding that the victim was a resident of Brahmpuri and was studying in a private school.

Based on preliminary investigation, police said the boy was apparently involved in an altercation with a boy after school, which prompted the attack on him. “The claim is being verified,” they said.

“The boy was found with injuries to his head, face and left hand. Blood stains were found at several places on the road,” an official said, adding that the injured boy was rushed to JPC Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

A case of murder is being registered and CCTV footage is being scanned to identify the attackers, the officer added.

Gurugram student attacked by gang of boys outside school

In a similar incident, a class 11 student was brutally attacked by a group of as many as 20 boys outside the gate of a private school in the Sushant Lok area of Haryana’s Gurugram earlier this month. According to police, the attackers first tried to kidnap the victim.

According to police, the attack, which was captured on CCTV cameras installed outside the school gate, showed the attackers arriving in five cars and apparently trying to kidnap the victim. The boy suffered serious injuries all over his body, including both his eyes, and was admitted to a private hospital for treatment, they said.

An official said the victim’s father Amit Dahiya, a resident of Gurugram’s Krishna Colony, received a call from the school in the afternoon informing him that his son had been admitted to Umkal Hospital after a physical attack.

“When I reached the hospital, I found that my son was in a very bad condition,” Dahiya said in his complaint, police said.

Dahiya said his son told him that three classmates and 17 others were lurking outside the school gates and pounced on him as soon as he stepped outside.

According to police, the victim suffered multiple injuries to his body, including his eyes, and is being treated at a private hospital.

Dahiya had told police that the attackers wanted to kill his son.

“They came in five vehicles and surrounded him with the intention of forcing him into one of the cars. The suspect also concealed the license plates of the cars by sticking stickers on them. The school staff confirmed what happened and the entire incident was captured on CCTV footage,” Dahiya said in his complaint, police said.
