Last year, NASA announced a campaign called Message in a Bottle, which will be sent to Jupiter’s planetary system via its Europa Clipper spacecraft.

Message in a Bottle asked the general public to sign their names – now more than 2.6 million names are etched into a microchip.

The chip, about the size of a dime, was created by engineers at the Microdevices Laboratory of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

In addition to the microchip, NASA is sending a 7-by-9-inch metal commemorative plaque with graphic elements on both sides.

In the heart of the plate there is an engraving of the poem In Praise of Mystery: A Poem for Europewritten by American poet laureate Ada Limón.

“The contents and design of Europa Clipper’s vault slab are swimmingly significant,” said Lori Glaze, director of the Planetary Science Division at NASA Headquarters in Washington.

“The record combines the best that humanity has to offer in the entire universe: science, technology, education, art and math,” Glaze added.

“The message of connection through water, essential to all forms of life as we know it, perfectly illustrates Earth’s bond with this mysterious ocean world we wish to explore.”

EUROPE CLIPPER MISSION

The message is expected to fly aboard NASA’s Europa Clipper spacecraft sometime in October 2024.

Europa Clipper will investigate the Galilean moon that orbits Jupiter every 83 hours.

The Clipper is about the size of an SUV and is expected to reach Europe around March 7, 2031.

Scientists reveal Jupiter’s icy moon may be hiding extraterrestrial LIFE in hidden ‘pools of water’

The mission, which has set NASA back $4.25 billion, will explore Europa’s terrain – from the salinity of the ocean to the chemical composition of the ice crust.

The search for organic compounds such as sulfates and carbonates is also on the agenda of the orbiter, which will fly repeatedly past the icy moon.

“Clipper will conduct detailed explorations of Jupiter’s moon Europa and investigate whether the icy moon could have conditions suitable for life,” NASA wrote about its mission website.

NASA believes Europa is an ideal candidate for hosting extraterrestrial life because the country possesses the “ingredients essential for life: water, chemistry and energy.”

The researchers predict that beneath Europe’s surface lies a salty ocean that contains more water “than the Earth’s oceans combined.”

Project scientist Robert Pappalardo of NASA’s JBL in Southern California said, “It’s been a decades-long journey and we can’t wait to see what Europa Clipper shows us in this water world.”

Only a few were made, and only one remains, making it a collector’s item – with an eye-watering price tag.

The ultra-pure thirst quencher is billed as the “taste of snow in the air” from the Norwegian Arctic outpost of Spitsbergen.

The description of the 750 ml bottle reads: “Svalbard iceberg water is an experience for the palate, comparable to fine wine.”

It suggests that you can improve the taste by adding ‘delicates’, chocolate milk or, interestingly, ‘drinks’.

It continues: “Without nitrates or contaminants, the extremely low minerality provides a light mouthfeel with a light bite and a slight sweetness.”

The mineral water is said to be the northernmost on Earth, while icebergs can be challenging springs.

Pat Eckert, owner of British Fine Liquids, which sells it for £7,332, said: “Iceberg water is really special.

“When the brand stopped production, what stock remained sold out within a few days.

“The bottle we have is therefore a rare collector’s item.”

The aim of the project is to detect small particles called neutrinos that are part of our universe.

Neutrinos are the smallest particles and even smaller than atoms, making them extremely difficult to spot.

They behave in strange ways, zooming through space and easily passing through planets without interacting with other matter.

Billions of them are moving through your body all the time, without having any effect on you, according to The B1M.

Scientists believe that if we can understand how this happens, it could dramatically change the way we think about the universe.

And so, in 2020, they started hollowing out Mount Nijuugoin Kamioka, Japan, and created the base of the research institute called “Hyper-Kamiokande”.

The experiment is led by the University of Tokyo and supported by researchers from 21 countries.

The observatory works using 40,000 photodetectors that line the inside of the cave.

These are so sensitive that a single lamp could easily detect the beam of a flashlight on the moon.

The detectors are also designed to withstand the enormous weight of 260,000 tons of water.

As neutrinos pass through the tank, they occasionally collide with electrons, creating a faint glow known as Cherenkov radiation.

Once installed, these photodetectors will act as a giant camera that records the faint trails of light given off by the radiation, and the observation can begin.

So far, all that exists of the structure is a giant concrete shell.

And it is over 80 meters high and almost 70 meters wide and big enough for an entire Boeing 747 turned upside down.

The dome was made to withstand the enormous weight of the rocks on the observatory, which is located 681 meters below the mountain peak.

The density of the rock is the equivalent of the observatory being 1.7 kilometers below the ocean surface.

The massive crater is accessed via a two-kilometre-long approach tunnel that, using a drill and blast method, took just nine months to complete.

This access tunnel leads to the center of what will become the roof of the observatory.

When the incredible structure is completed, it will be the largest neutrino observatory in the world – four and a half times larger than the world’s largest aquarium at Seaworld Abu Dhabi.

Japan is also home to another neutrino observatory called “Super-Kamiokande”, located near the city of Hida and commissioned in 2006.

Construction work is expected to be fully completed by 2026, and the Hyper-Kamiokande should begin detecting neutrinos and conducting other experiments by 2027.

Learning more about atoms is important because it has contributed to medical breakthroughs, including treatments for AIDS and countless other medications.

It has also led to a better understanding of fluid dynamics, which gives us more accurate weather forecasts.

The team has now started the next one phase of the project, shooting down through 71 meters of rock to create the enormous cavern that will house the observatory.

The underground observatory will be more than 80 meters high and almost 70 meters wide

“It’s like dating… but with your house, not your heart,” is how one fan of home exchange holidays summed it up.

Since houses (unfortunately not hearts) are insured, I decided to test this travel trend just as rising energy prices and food inflation came under heavy pressure.

The cheap family holiday has been elusive in recent years.

Housing costs in the EU rose to 22 percent above inflation in 2022 and although they have fallen since then – to 6.8 percent in December 2023 – the idea of using our home as payment to travel was intriguing.

How far would a 1930s terrace with three and a half beds, a stone’s throw from the Thames in Surrey, take us?

Joanna Tweedy shares her experience of a family home exchange holiday in the Loire Valley (photo)

Almost everywhere, was the answer. Our proximity to London meant we were inundated with inquiries: a British couple living in New Zealand, a family in Orlando, retirees from Brazil… plus dozens of listings in Europe, including villa owners in Portugal, chic French gites and city apartments in Berlin.

We fancied a trial trip to Valencia, where we stayed for three nights in a stylish three-bedroom maisonette owned by a couple in their thirties who work in the Spanish film industry.

They showed us how to use various gadgets, including their huge TV, and then gave us a cheerful adios. It felt like a bargain: we explored one of Europe’s most beautiful cities for the price of four Ryanair flights, around £200, plus car hire for £120.

Summer brought similar treasures.

We swapped homes with a French family – two teachers with three older children who lived on the edge of the Loire Valley.

Their beautiful four-bedroom home had a kitchen with all the gadgets and a gourmet spice rack. The garage was packed with play and sports equipment, including four mountain bikes that we could use for free. To the children’s delight, there was also a cat named Yumi in the house.

Be my guest: the Lamoureux family, from France, enjoy a stay at Joanna's house

Meanwhile, back with us, the French family seemed just as happy. Friendly messages pinged back and forth – sharing photos of our two cats and their afternoon tea in Brighton, and giving them information on how to get around the capital. There was some work: we fed Yumi and their fish and watered the plants.

Exchange and save: Joanna and family traveling

Any other catches? We did a lot of cleaning before we left our own house, and a lot of cleaning before we left theirs, too. It’s kind of the deal.

However, how much did this six night stay cost at the height of the French summer season?

About £27.50 – the combined price of the gifts we left: a good bottle of Chateau de Sancerre and a bar of artisan chocolate. That’s an unfathomable £6.87 each for accommodation.

Of course we also paid for the ferry, tolls and petrol. A P&O crossing from Dover to Calais cost £187 and we had saved £200 for door to door mileage and fares. Signing up to the home exchange website costs £150 per year, with unlimited exchanges allowed. All things considered, we were still winning – and somehow.

Jessica Poillucci, of home exchange website HomeExchange, says: ‘Home exchange is a cost-effective way to see the world, and you live like a local, not a tourist.’

Here we reveal the finer details of how swaps work.

Joanna reveals her first home exchange experience was in Valencia (pictured), where she stayed for three nights in a 'stylish' three-bedroom maisonette

IT BROADS OUR HORIZON

Retired academics Bryan and Janet MacDonald have been using their four-bedroom, 18th-century country cottage in Lincolnshire as currency for a host of adventures since signing up for a home exchange last year.

They say they travel “without blowing up the children’s inheritance.” So far they have enjoyed a walking holiday in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia, a week in Fowey, Cornwall, and a city break to Edinburgh.

Bryan says: ‘We had to look after a flat full of exotic plants and a few Bengal cats in Edinburgh’s New Town. It was the kind of house you just couldn’t rent – and if you could, it would probably cost a fortune.’

Trusting that guests will care for their home and their cat Suki has been stress-free so far. “If people trust you with their home, they won’t destroy your home,” Bryan says.

He says that exchanging houses has broadened their travel horizons: ‘We often used to choose the same type of holiday. Now we get an exchange proposal out of the blue and we think: we’ve never heard of this place, but maybe we want to go there!’

DO I NEED TO REGISTER ON A WEBSITE?

Home exchanges have been around informally for decades, but by signing up with a home exchange website, such as homexchange.com, homelink.org and vacationwap.com, you can rest assured that you’re not alone if something goes wrong. You’ll normally pay an annual fee – between €115 and €180 – and once you’ve uploaded the details and photos of your home, you can contact the owners to arrange a stay.

SHOULD I DO A STRAIGHT SWAP?

In short, no. If it works for both parties to stay in each other’s house at the same time, great, but many websites these days use a system where you can earn ‘points’ when you host. For example, the couple who owned the duplex in Valencia retreated to their second home in the mountains during our stay and can save their points to use towards another home anywhere in the world in the future.

What about valuables?

Trust is essential for a successful home exchange. If you can’t stand a stranger opening your cupboards or peering into the shed, then this isn’t for you. It’s wise to make sure valuables aren’t lying around, but exchanging depends on guests treating your home as they would want their own home treated. If there is a breakup, annual site fees usually include insurance and while disagreements are rare, websites say they will intervene to resolve the issues.

Do I need additional insurance?

Most insurance companies, including Axa and Aviva, say guests are covered for stays of up to 30 days, provided no money is exchanged. They add that it’s wise to contact your insurance company before hosting to let them know and that you’ll still need standard travel insurance if you’re staying at someone else’s home. Some homeowners also charge a small fee for cleaning, usually no more than around £30.

GUESTS LOVE THAT WE ARE CLOSE TO THE HARRY POTTER STUDIOS

Beth Farr, who lives with her partner and two children in Islington, north London, says swapping their four-bedroom home will save them between £1,500 and £2,000 per holiday.

They traveled to the French coast, where the family helped them book local restaurants and activities, and to an ‘amazing’ villa in Alicante – big enough to take her sister and her family on the trip too. They also stayed in a ‘beautiful apartment with panoramic views’ in Amsterdam.

Beth Farr's home exchange trips have taken her and her family to France, Alicante and Amsterdam (photo)

Beth says attractions close to the door are what interests people.

‘We’re less than an hour away by train from the Harry Potter Studio Tour in Leavesden – people really like that.

“Everyone has been very respectful and taken good care of our house and our cat.”

The incident took place when Babar Azam, representing Peshawar Zalmi, was sitting on the sidelines with the franchise’s coaching staff during a Pakistan Super League match.

Babar Azam picks up a bottle and targets a group of spectators who were teasing him during a PSL match.

Lahore: Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam threatened to hit a section of fans with a water bottle and also angrily spoke some words to them, the video of which went viral on social media. The incident took place during a Peshawar Zalmi Pakistan Super League match. Babar, who represents Peshawar in PSL, was sitting on the sidelines when few spectators started teasing him with ‘ZimBabar’ chants. The unnecessary chanting made Babar excited as he soon rushed towards them with a bottle of water as he sat. At this, the fans chanted ‘ZimBabar’ more, forcing the star batsman to give a mouthful.

However, the 29-year-old stopped himself from spiraling out of control and sat down on the chair to focus on the match.

Ally Rooker (@allyrooker) filmed herself nailing her nail routine in a video on TikTok.

She said she started growing it seriously a year before her engagement, which led to a perfected regimen.

“Once a week I take everything off my nails,” she said.

“I use an acetone-free nail polish remover whenever possible because acetone is really drying.

“And I use one coat of Olive and June Nail Strengthener, [$14].

“This will change your life. This will change your nails. It will change your life. It will make your nails so strong. If you have brittle nails, you need this.”

She said she followed up on a product for painted nails and called it “magic.”

“I almost always paint my nails with color, so I apply a coat of Nailtiques, then I put all my colored nail polish on and then I put another coat of Nailtiques on top.

“If you don’t want to paint your nails with color, apply two coats of Nailtiques daily.”

Nailtics Formula Two is currently on sale at Amazon for $18.62.

She said she also takes biotin daily, as well as a bovine collagen supplement.

A BMW engineer allegedly murdered by a woman inspired to kill by the Netflix series 'Don't F*** with Cats' could have been knocked unconscious with a bottle of vodka before drowning in a river, a Home Office pathologist told the court today.

Dr. Brett Lockyer told a jury that Jorge Carreno suffered “blunt force trauma” to the back of the head.

He said a bottle of vodka 'used as a weapon' may have caused the injuries and bleeding under the skull he found during a post-mortem examination.

The jury in the trial of cat killer Scarlet Blake, 25, has heard that financial records show she bought a bottle of vodka online before the alleged murder.

A red Smirnoff vodka bottle cap found by Carreno's body on the riverbank contained traces of Blake's DNA, Oxford Crown Court has been told.

Scarlet Blake, 25, (centre) – who was described as obsessed with torture and violence – is on trial at Oxford Crown Court, charged with the murder of Jorge Carreno

During his testimony on the fifth day of the murder trial, Dr Lockyer said Carreno, 30, had a deep bruise measuring about 2cm on the back of his head.

He said the object would have caused bleeding under the skin because “the head hit an object or an object hit the head.”

When asked by prosecutor Alison Morgan KC whether a bottle of vodka could have caused the injury, he replied: “A bottle of that type that doesn't break, yes, absolutely.”

He said the blow could have caused the victim to lose consciousness.

Blake – who was described as obsessed with torture and violence – was the last person seen with Carreno as they walked the streets of Oxford in the early morning hours of July 2021.

CCTV footage shows Blake – who was live-streamed dissecting a cat and putting it in a blender months before the alleged murder – led Carreno to his death.

The engineer's death was initially thought to be a suicide or an accident, and remained unsolved for two years.

But following a complex police investigation by Thames Valley Police, Blake was arrested and charged with murder.

On the third day of the trial, bodycam footage from the first police officer on the scene was played at Oxford Crown Court, showing Mr Carreno's body being pulled from the water.

When police examined her cell phone, they found a collage of nine female serial killers and other images and boxes depicting strangulation.

The jury at Oxford Crown Court watched a video of Blake strangling a partner before passing out.

In the background of the video was a leopard print bathrobe cord and Blake took a selfie with the garment before walking through the streets looking for a victim.

Dr. Lockyer told the jury that a mark on the victim's neck could have been caused by a ligature.

He said a wide ligature could have caused the injury, but all traces would have disappeared if the body had been in the water for a while.

The jury of five women and seven men heard audio of a cat being killed along with Blake and the woman she live streamed during the horrific event while discussing the Netflix series 'Don't F*** with Cats '.

As she killed the rescue animal named Starlet, the New Order song “True Faith” could be heard in the background.

Canadian killer Paul Magnotta played the same song while choking cats and posted the videos on the Internet.

He was tracked down by animal lovers and convicted of the murder of computer technician Lin Jun in 2012.

Dr. Lockyer said his post-mortem verdict was that Carreno died by drowning, with alcohol intoxication being a factor.

He said Carreno was almost twice the legal drink-driving limit after spending the evening drinking with colleagues at BMW's Cowley plant.

He said: 'Whether the level of intoxication caused Mr Carreno to enter the water or impaired his ability to deliver himself from the water cannot be determined.'

The pathologist said he ended his initial report by saying that his results were based on facts presented at the time, but that if other information came to light it should be taken into consideration.

He was later shown the cat killing video and Blake's penchant for strangulation, and was asked to reconsider his original findings, including the possibility of strangulation.

Blake denies the murder and the trial continues.

A BEAUTY guru has revealed how a homemade haircare product stopped her locks from falling out.

She confessed that she was afraid she would go bald if her hair started to fall out due to an illness.

Rebekah (@yourstruly_rebecca) has over 18,000 followers on TikTok, where she shares beauty tips.

The 24-year-old, who lives in California, opened up about how she restored her hair's health while styling her curly locks.

“This bottle has single-handedly stopped my hair loss,” she said, holding a bottle containing a brown liquid.

“Over the past month my hair has been falling out like crazy.

“Why do you ask? Well, I got Covid in October and I know it can make you lose your hair.

“I have Lyme disease, which also causes a lot of imbalances and deficiencies.

“It had to stop, regardless of why my hair had to stop falling out.

“I had suffered from hair loss before and as a result my hair was already much thinner than it naturally was.

“Which freaked me out even more because your girl can't go bald, I could rock it but…”

Rebecca revealed that oiling her hair had previously worked to regrow her thinning locks.

However, she realized that using oil made her hair fall out even more this time.

“I had tried rosemary water before, but not super consistently,” she said. “I had not yet experienced the magic of rosemary water 100%.

“Anyway, I knew this was my last chance because nothing was working.

“Oh my god, this saved my hair,” she said, revealing the bottle contained rosemary water.

“Every time I touched my head, the hair just fell out. Every time.

“I started making rosemary water and spraying it on my scalp every morning and every night before I went to bed.

HOW TO MAKE ROSEMARY WATER

Step 1: Place 1/3 cup of dried rosemary in a pot with two cups of water

Step 2: Let the mixture boil for 20 to 30 minutes

Step 3: Let the mixture cool for an hour

Step 4: Strain the mixture before putting it in a spray bottle

Step 5: Apply the rosemary water to your scalp in the morning and evening

Step 6: Store the remaining rosemary water in the refrigerator

“And whenever I wanted to style my curls, or get a little extra protection or moisture, I covered the rest of my hair.

“It only took about two weeks before I really noticed that the shedding had stopped.

“Not only that, but so many new little hairs have grown back,” she said, showing off the sprouting strands.

“The hair near my scalp feels so much thicker.

“I can see there is a lot of new growth.

“There is literally no product in my hair except rosemary water. No gel, nothing.

“Make sure you spray it every day and keep track of when you're running low so you can make a new batch and there's no gap.

“Get started, let's stay consistent together and see what our hair looks like in a few months.”

Rebecca said she applies rosemary water to her scalp twice a day

Rebecca revealed that rosemary water has made her hair less frizzy and doesn't need to be washed out.

She recommended keeping the DIY hair care product in the refrigerator when not using it.

More than 3,300 people liked the video, and hundreds took to the comments section to say they planned to try rosemary water to stop their own hair loss.

“Same thing, oiling my hair made it look much worse. I hope this works,” one person wrote.

“Me, I'm going to do this, I hope it helps,” said another.

Rebecca's hack comes after an article published by Everyday health stated that there are no existing studies evaluating how effective rosemary water is for hair care.

However, a 2015 study on the more powerful rosemary oil found that the essential oil can be as effective as a 2% minoxidil hair growth treatment after six months of use.
