In the middle of a Canadian city lies an abandoned shopping center that serves as a time capsule for the ’90s, as a fascinating documentary reveals.

Filmmaker Jake Williams was granted access to the City Center Mall in Hamilton, Ontario, and he took a thorough walk around to examine its innards.

He was shocked to discover that the mall – which opened in 1990 after a CA$150 million investment and closed in 2022 – appeared frozen in time, with the interior “completely preserved and completely unchanged.”

In one scene, he enters a former office, where he finds clothes in a closet, photos lying around and a retro computer on the desk. As he turns the camera around, he says, “Oh my God, has anyone been here since 1990?”

“There are pictures of them building this room… and painting it. I think I accidentally entered the 1994 office. This is bizarre…the clothes are scattered everywhere,” he added.

In another scene, Jake ventures to the mall’s food court, where he finds the remains of several eateries, including a Persian restaurant and an Italian that sells a plate of pasta for CA$3.99.

Other items on the menu include 12 wings for CA$10.99 and a hot chicken sub for CA$5.49.

While looking around the dining room, Jakes tells viewers that “the whole place stinks like hell.”

Of the food court design, he says the aqua green “chairs and tables bring back so much nostalgia” and “even the hip cans are straight out of the 90s.”

As Jake walks through the mall, viewers get a sense of its scale, with the main atrium having a grand vaulted ceiling and a glass elevator providing access to two balcony levels.

When it was open, the City Center Mall offered more than 50,000 square feet of commercial space, and hundreds of people worked in the sprawling building.

Jake reveals that the mall was originally called the Hamilton Eaton Center and has faced several hurdles over the years as footfall declined. After the name change and sale to a new owner, it finally closed its doors on December 26, 2022.

In Jake’s film, it appears that after closing most of the contents are left behind.

A Dollar Store in the mall still has “closing sale” stickers taped to the outside, along with other signs informing shoppers that a 70 percent discount applies to all merchandise.

At the discount store, Jake discovers that many unsold items have been thrown away, while he also notices a ‘wall of shame’ behind the cash registers with photos of unruly customers still taped up.

In another part of the building, Jake discovers an office space that was used as a call center, with cubicles still intact and decorated with headsets.

Meanwhile, another corner of the mall was converted into a gym to attract customers. However, no machine was left behind.

Regarding the condition of the building, Jake says that the “disrepair doesn’t look that bad, but when you look in certain corners it starts to show that this building has only just been here.”

He notes that there is water damage in some parts of the structure, with the “paint starting to peel.”

His images also show that some interiors, such as the elevator doors, have been vandalized with graffiti.

After the shopping center closed, there were ambitions to demolish it to make way for a $1 billion mixed-use residential and retail development, but plans are currently on hold.

The developer who bought the abandoned mall, IN8 Developments, said CBC in December 2023 that it had “halted the project and demolition until the real estate market improves.”

Company Chairman Darryl Firsten offered hope to the city’s residents, adding, “In the meantime, we will continue to refine and improve our design.” It will be a great project.’

Photos taken by travelers showing ‘disgusting’ meals and tatty furniture in lounges have led to one frequent flyer labeling Qantas as ’embarrassing’ – with the airline even having to apologize for a ‘horrific’ meal served in one of its business class lounges.

Australia’s national airline has come under fire in recent days for reportedly declining quality of both the overall presentation and meals served both in its lounges and on board its planes.

An irate customer shared a photo of porridge-like food served on a flight from Melbourne to LA on Monday.

“The most disgusting food we have had in our lives,” they wrote.

‘One bite of every meal served in QantasQF93 to LA was terrible. Children spent 14 hours without eating anything.

“We need to put the criminals who run this worthless airline behind bars.”

The Australian airline has come under fire in recent days over the alleged declining quality of meals served both in its lounges and on board its planes.

Another customer flying from Sydney to Melbourne shared a photo of what was supposedly a pizza but looked more like a regurgitated pile of olives, peppers and cheese.

The airline even apologized for one of the meals it served in the Sydney Business Class Lounge on Thursday and Friday last week.

One customer described the braised rib dish as ‘horrific’ Yahoo News.

‘This was served to paying customers. I looked at it and even tried it.

“This airline is really in trouble.”

A Qantas spokesperson said the airline was “incredibly disappointed with the way this meal was presented.”

‘We pride ourselves on providing enjoyable dining experiences and this more than meets our high standards.’

It is understood the airline has launched an investigation into the meal.

Another disgruntled high-flyer shared photos of ‘absolutely disgusting’ frayed and stained chairs at the Sydney International Business Lounge.

The traveler told Yahoo that he had been a Lifetime Gold Qantas frequent flyer for more than 20 years, but had stopped flying with them due to declining standards.

“(I can’t believe) how bad Qantas’ standard is, when their prices are ridiculous compared to other international airlines,” he added.

In a statement to Daily Mail Australia, Qantas said the seats were replaced last month.

“The Sydney International Business Lounge is being revamped as part of a program that has seen the addition of 30 new and 70 refurbished armchairs and stools to date,” an airline spokesperson said.

‘We are also replacing the dining room chairs this week.’

In the six months to December, Qantas posted underlying pre-tax profits of $1.25 billion, down $180 million or 12.6 percent from $1.43 billion for the same period in 2022.

Last September, new CEO Vanessa Hudson recognized that the airline needed to regain customer trust.

“I know we have failed you in many ways,” she said.

‘We have not delivered as we should have and we have often been difficult to deal with.

“We understand why you are frustrated and why some of you have lost confidence in us.”

  • Samantha Norris, 56, from Ringwood, Hampshire, had thousands of images of abuse
  • Norris also wrote down a New Year’s resolution to have sex with a girl under the age of 10

A charity shop worker who is about to become a woman has been jailed for two years for possessing thousands of ‘repulsive’ child abuse images.

Samantha Norris, 56, from Ringwood, Hampshire, was previously cleared by a jury of exposing ‘her penis’ to two 11-year-old girls following a trial at Southampton Crown Court in January.

But yesterday, Norris pleaded guilty to several possession charges 16,000 images of children – including approximately 2,000 still and 121 moving images of category A severity – and an extreme porn image featuring an animal.

The images showed children as young as three years old, while other images showed youngsters aged around six in ‘distress and pain’, the court heard.

Passing sentence, Judge Rowland said Norris had made notes about sexual fantasies about a young child, as well as a ‘New Year’s resolution to have sex with a girl under 10’.

He told the defendant: “It’s all about you, Samantha Norris, not the victims.

‘You do not accept that they are victims, you have a distorted view and you believe that your offense should not be treated as serious. What would a reasonable person think about that?

‘Your views are alarming and complex – you pose a significant risk of harm to children.’

The defendant entered the pleas after being acquitted by a jury of other charges of sexual activity in the presence of a child and indecent exposure.

In addition to the prison sentence, Judge Nicholas Rowland made Norris subject to a sexual harm prevention order for a period of ten years.

He added: “It’s quite egregious to me that you decided not to enter guilty pleas (earlier) because those pleas would have gone before the jury on the other cases.”

During the exposure and sexual activity trial, of which Norris was acquitted, the prosecution had alleged that the defendant had deliberately exposed ‘her penis’ to two young people through the window of her flat.

But Norris, who worked at a Sue Ryder charity shop, described himself as a naturist who was “usually naked” at home.

Norris insisted that the children could only see nudity if they had been “spying.”

Norris also complained about abuse by young people in the city and accused the girls of ‘taunting’.

A series of incredible images captured by a wildlife photographer show big cats and their cubs playing, fighting and cuddling.

Nick Dale, 55, has captured leopards, lionesses, pumas and cheetahs and their babies in countries across Africa such as Kenya, Tanzania and Botswana.

The footage shows the animals surrounding and climbing on their mothers, and in some shots they appear to be hugging their mothers.

Nick, who started photographing wild cats in 2013, said: ‘Lions sleep 20 to 22 hours a day, so it’s always a good opportunity for action shots! The cubs can also be very cute, and cute can be bought.

‘I have been taking pictures of lions and other cats since my first trip to Africa in 2013 and I will continue as long as I can.

‘There is often action in different places and sometimes you need the help of other guests to let you know when something fun is happening!

‘I’ve taken hundreds, possibly even thousands of photos like this over the years, but you’re never quite sure what you’re going to get, so there’s a lot of luck involved.’

Britain’s ‘tallest, fastest and most weightless’ roller coaster is almost ready for thrill seekers to climb aboard and ride.

Video footage shows the final section of track being lifted into place for Thorpe Park ‘Hyperia’, a state-of-the-art thrill ride with record-breaking specifications.

This week, after months of construction, a 500-ton crane helped lift the 92nd and final section of track into place to complete the 995.4-meter ride, which reaches a height of 71 meters and speeds of more than 71 meters . 80 mph (128 km/h).

The Surrey-based theme park claims thrill seekers will ‘roam like never before’ and ‘feel weightless’ on board the new attraction.

The roller coaster was designed by Senior Creative Lead, John Burton, and features three inversions, including a dive loop, a non-inverted Immelmann (a form of rolling loop) and a stall loop – here riders are held upside down for a longer period.

Although only three TimeSplitters games were ever released, they were all highly rated and players waited a long time for a new entry.

An untitled TimeSplitters game that we now know was called TimeSplitters Next was canceled in late 2023, causing players to lose hope once again.

Cutbacks were made when the Embracer Group laid off more than a thousand staff as part of a cost-cutting program.

This included the entirety of Free Radical Design, the studio that developed TimeSplitters Next.

Although no footage of the game was ever officially released, a former employee of the studio posted a six-minute gameplay video on LinkedIn.

The footage is from July 2023, meaning it’s a snapshot of development about three months before the game was canceled.

The developer wrote: “So, you want to know more about the canceled TimeSplitters game?

“I’ll be sure to post what I can… Embracer Group could be hiding in a cave somewhere.”

The LinkedIn post has since been deleted, but we were able to watch the video before it was deleted.

The video starts with some footage from the older TimeSplitters games before moving into gameplay from TimeSplitters Next.

The game was still in development, so the video shows early footage, but it doesn’t seem like it followed the formula from the series of the same name.

Instead, it looks like a Fortnite clone, with bright colors, lots of weapons and shooting, and a user interface that looks like it was taken straight from the Battle Royale.

One commenter said it looks like “Fortnite at home,” and indicated it is lower quality than Fortnite.

Several features closely mimic Fortnite, including the in-game store and battle pass, as well as the appearance of the characters and map.

TimeSplitters Next would also have had several game modes, some of which could accommodate up to 100 players.

From the developer’s description, it seems like the decision to copy Fortnite came from the Embracer Group and not the studio.

Disturbing images of three Indigenous children tied up with cable ties by a tradie outside a home in Broome, Western Australia, have won sympathy from weary locals in a city plagued by youth crime.

While the images have sparked national outrage, locals and shop owners in Broome say their city is in the grip of a wave of violent crime.

The idyllic getaway – known for its tropical white-sand beaches, sunset camel rides and palm tree-lined resorts – has been overrun with drugs, robberies and car fires as hundreds of children and teenagers roam the streets unattended at night.

Locals spoke out after the confrontational video, filmed on Tuesday, spread like wildfire on social media, showing images of primary school-age children with their hands tied together by black cable ties.

Burly local trader Mat Radelic, 45, was seen standing over the crying children – a girl and two boys aged six, seven and eight – outside a house on Conkerberry Road, Cable Beach.

Radelic, who runs a local air conditioning company, stood next to the clearly distressed and wailing children until police officers arrived to arrest him.

Initially called to investigate the children’s alleged offending, police later charged the 45-year-old man with three counts of aggravated assault.

It is believed Radelic caught the three children – and a fourth, a boy who escaped – swimming in a backyard pool on a 33°C day. In the footage he claimed it was the sixth time this had happened.

He has been widely condemned by the public for overreacting and scaring the children after the footage went viral.

But locals told Daily Mail Australia the unfortunate incident was just a symptom of a city pushing beyond its limits.

Despite widespread condemnation of the man’s actions, Broome residents cited years of living with burglaries, burglaries, car thefts, arson and teenage gang rampages.

As a store owner, who wished to remain anonymous, she was burglarized twice within a few months and her store was destroyed.

“It’s heartbreaking that a 12-year-old came in and did all this damage just for a can of Red Bull,” she said.

“It’s a huge Kimberley problem. “We have a beautiful city and there are children committing crimes and running amok unsupervised, and that is affecting our tourism.”

The shop owner said tourists from across Australia and abroad have been flocking to Broome in recent years to visit Cable Beach, take a camel ride and stay at a resort.

“You can do that without seeing any of the crime, but in the meantime, at three in the morning, a kid is trying to break in and steal our homes and businesses.”

She said she sympathized with the tradie if it was proven that he was only trying to apprehend perpetrators who had committed a crime against him.

“You wouldn’t use zip ties, but if kids break into my house in the middle of the night, they’ll have to deal with my dogs,” she said.

Lee Du Bray told Daily Mail Australia that when he lived in Broome and installed a $50,000 fiberglass pool in his garden, ‘thThe moment I went outside, the pool was invaded by the local children.

He added: “When I told them to leave, they came back later and threw an entire four-gallon can of paint into the pool, destroying the entire filtration system and, of course, [I had to pay to] empty, clean and refill the pool.

‘After paying for it, they came back weeks later and threw fence posts straight through the fiberglass floor of the pool.

‘The pool had to be reinstalled and refilled – at least $100,000 went down the drain and the children were never even brought before a magistrate.

“I feel sorry for that poor tradie.”

At the end of last year, reports the ABC a Broome businessman who lived in the Kimberley for more than twenty years sold his belongings and left town because of the crime.

His small business was badly vandalized in early November after a break-in, forcing staff living at the back of the business to barricade themselves in a bedroom as the burglary progressed.

The businessman’s daughter said it was ‘a terrifying experience’ as the intruders were ‘extremely violent and said terrible things’.

In early 2022, local police reported that youth crimes in the Kimberley had increased by 54 percent, compared to the previous two years.

When police launched an operation to tackle crime, they discovered hundreds of children were roaming the streets of Broome every night.

The perpetrators included a 10-year-old boy who was charged by police for threatening staff with a knife at a business in Broome city centre.

Police have charged a 13-year-old boy with four counts of aggravated residential burglary, six of theft, two of attempted aggravated burglary and one of theft of a motor vehicle

Boys as young as 14 have also been charged with serious armed robbery.

Residents fear that there is no solution to the continuing wave of theft and violence.

“It’s desperate,” said one local. “And it drives people to desperate actions.”
