SEOUL – For years it was almost impossible to see Shohei Ohtani anywhere without his longtime interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, just steps away. On Thursday, after Mizuhara’s abrupt resignation due to his involvement in illegal gambling, it was almost impossible to see Ohtani at all.

Ohtani did not enter the Los Angeles Dodgers clubhouse during the 50 minutes reporters were allowed inside before Thursday’s Seoul Series finale against the San Diego Padres. He also didn’t even venture into the hallway leading from the clubhouse to the dugout, where more than three dozen cameras from English-speaking, Japanese and Korean news stations were stationed during batting practice. His first public sighting came when he appeared at the on-deck circle in the bottom of the first inning, ripped a single into Joe Musgrove’s first pitch and just missed a pair of home runs in the 15-11 loss.

The two-time MVP was guarded at his locker after the game by some of the team’s public relations officials, who told Japanese reporters:otsukaresama” – which roughly translates to “thank you for your hard work” – as he left behind one of the officials without answering any questions before the club boarded its flight back to Los Angeles.

The Dodgers fired Mizuhara after Ohtani’s representatives accused him of engaging in a “massive theft” in which the player’s money was used to place bets with an allegedly illegal bookmaker under federal investigation.

The accusation from Berk Brettler, the firm representing Ohtani, followed an investigation by The Los Angeles Times. The newspaper learned that Ohtani’s name came up during an investigation into Orange County resident Mathew Bowyer. According to the newspaper, Mizuhara, 39, placed bets with Bowyer.

Mizuhara did not respond to a request for comment. Ohtani is not currently facing discipline, an MLB official said, and he is not believed to be under active investigation by the league.

Dodgers fire Shohei Ohtani’s interpreter amid ‘massive theft’ allegations

Not a single player spoke publicly before the game, with the barren home clubhouse packed with reporters. There were few signs left of Mizuhara’s short tenure with the franchise. When Ohtani strolled through the dugout Thursday night, he did so without his usual companion.

“It kind of is what it is,” Mookie Betts said after the game. “I hope Sho is good, but at the end of the day you have to let us take care of your work. Like I said, whatever cards we’re dealt, you’ve got to play them.’

The Dodgers lost the final game of the series 15-11. Ohtani, who went 1-for-5 with a sacrifice fly in the second inning, did not answer questions after the game and was escorted out of the clubhouse by a team PR official.

There was no question of having Ohtani play in Thursday’s game, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said, noting that Ohtani was in a hitter’s meeting while Roberts spoke to reporters around 3:15 p.m. local time. An abnormal day still had a normal routine.

Of course, a lot had changed in the past 24 hours. Ohtani was seen on air laughing with Mizuhara during the ninth inning of Wednesday night’s season opener, as if nothing had happened. The scene felt normal, a moment of celebration after Ohtani’s first game with his new club after signing a 10-year, $700 million contract with the Dodgers last winter. The image of Ohtani’s time in the major leagues, of his rise to global stardom with the Angels and now the Dodgers, included Mizuhara as his shadow.

After the match, Mizuhara stood in front of an unsuspecting clubhouse and spoke about the news that would become public the next morning.

The meeting was brief and abrupt, according to several people in the room. They described a “weird,” “strange” scene that included Dodgers owner Mark Walter and CEO Stan Kasten.

“Whatever has to do with that, the meeting,” Roberts said Thursday, “I can’t comment.”

According to a team source, Mizuhara told a version of the story in the room that was similar to what he told ESPN in his first interview, which took place on Tuesday.

According to a spokesperson for Ohtani, the player’s involvement was initially described as helping Mizuhara. Ohtani transferred money to cover Mizuhara’s gambling debts of approximately $4.5 million. The money did not go directly to Mizuhara because Ohtani did not trust his interpreter not to ‘gamble it away’. Before Mizuhara’s interview with ESPN was published, the spokesperson denied Mizuhara’s story and said Ohtani’s lawyers would issue a statement.

Mizuhara said Wednesday that Ohtani had no knowledge of his gambling activities, debts or attempts to pay them.

By the time the media were allowed into the Gocheok Skydome home clubhouse after the meeting, Mizuhara had ducked into the hallway and only emerged near the end of Ohtani’s scrum with reporters to quickly interpret three English questions. By morning, with initial reports from the Los Angeles Times and ESPN well circulated, the Dodgers confirmed that Mizuhara — who had been Ohtani’s primary interpreter since his arrival in Major League Baseball and whose relationship with Ohtani even predated that time – was fired. Still, confusion remained among those within the organization, especially after Ohtani’s representatives dismissed many of Mizuhara’s claims in his interview with ESPN.

Speaking to a room full of media members who had gathered to ask about a story sure to make global headlines, Roberts declined to comment on the nature of the allegations and the decision-making process and timing behind Mizuhara’s firing.

Kasten declined to comment before Thursday’s game. So did president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman.

“There’s nothing to say,” Friedman said. “Literally nothing to say.”

The Dodgers quickly came up with a temporary contingency plan for Thursday. Due to an MLB rule limiting the number of interpreters in the dugout, the Dodgers had come to rely heavily on Mizuhara as an intermediary for the coaching staff to communicate with Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who was chased after just one inning in his Major League . debuted Thursday after signing a 12-year, $325 million deal last offseason. Mizuhara’s role, at least for today, was filled by Will Ireton. Ireton, the Dodgers’ manager of performance operations, had served as the club’s interpreter for Japanese right-hander Kenta Maeda during much of Maeda’s four seasons in Los Angeles.

Yamamoto pointed to the remaining focus on the game, rather than the story that had made headlines.

“I don’t have much information about it,” Yamamoto said through interpreter Yoshihiro Sonoda. “So I have nothing to say.”

The next steps remain obscure. According to a league source, MLB has not been contacted by prosecutors. The MLBPA declined comment, and Ohtani’s agent, Nez Balelo, declined multiple requests for comment after being present at the Gocheok Sky Dome for much of the week.

It’s the second notable off-field incident in as many days during the Dodgers’ weeklong trip to South Korea after a bomb threat was made ahead of Wednesday’s opening day, potentially putting a damper on the lead-up to the most anticipated season of the season. Dodgers have had this since they moved to Los Angeles. The Dodgers’ $1.2 billion offseason, culminating in the addition of Ohtani, was always going to draw extra attention, and with it, criticism.

Roberts said, “We’re here to play baseball.”

The time of year is approaching when gardeners across the country begin digging up their soil and pulling weeds in preparation for a summer outdoors.

Removing weeds can be a tedious job because different varieties survive and grow in different ways throughout the year, meaning they often come back once you remove them.

However, garden experts are on hand to provide you with some helpful solutions to keep them at bay – with methods you may not have thought of before.

Horticulture experts have suggested three chemical-free, sustainable and cost-effective ways to destroy weeds that invade flower beds, vegetable gardens and borders.

To talk with Houses and gardensthey’ve revealed the products you need (all three can be found in your home every day) to get rid of those weeds for good.

Removing weeds can be a tedious job, but some experts may have come up with some unlikely but useful solutions to keep them at bay in gardens.

1. Boiling water

You may have heard of the method where you boil a kettle and pour boiling water over the weeds to kill them instantly – but does it really work?

According to gardening experts, boiling hot water will kill the part of the weed it comes into contact with, but it will not penetrate to the root.

If the root is not completely removed and dug out, there is a good chance that the weed will still return.

Jamie Mitri, an environmental engineer and founder of Moss Pure, shared Houses and gardens: ‘The higher temperature water will temporarily damage the weeds, but this will not be enough to kill the weed roots 100% and the weeds will grow back.’

Drew Swainston content editor at Homes & Gardens and former professional gardener, does not recommend the method – because while the younger weeds are likely to be affected by boiling water, the older and hardier weeds will survive.

He said: ‘The truth is that you have not killed them, you may have burned and damaged them, but the roots of the plant will not have been affected.

‘Perennials, perennials and weeds with taproots will survive below the surface and only sprout again in the near future.’

Another downside to using boiling water is the risk of harming soil health and other plants or lawns in the area – as well as the health and safety risk of scalding yourself – so it’s worth considering the method before you tries it out.

2. Vinegar

Among the different ways to remove weeds from your garden, you may have heard of using vinegar and wondered if it can actually kill them.

According to experts, vinegar is a very effective means of killing weeds. Ward Dilmore, founder and CEO of Petrus Landscaping, explains that the liquid contains acetic acid, a natural herbicide.

Speak with Houses and gardensDilmore said, “The effectiveness of vinegar as a weed killer is related to its acetic acid concentration.”

‘Household vinegar typically contains about 5% acetic acid, which may work for small weeds, but may not be as effective for larger or more established species.’

The landscape expert suggested using horticultural vinegar on the tougher weeds because they have a higher acetic acid concentration of about 20%.

Dilmore also recommended applying vinegar to weeds on warm and sunny days.

Despite being one of the more effective methods of removing weeds, using vinegar also has some disadvantages.

Gene Caballero, co-founder of GreenPal, said the solution may need to be reapplied several times and the effectiveness of the method depends on the weeds that are growing.

He explained: ‘Vinegar may not be as effective against older, established weeds or perennial weeds, which can regrow from the roots even after the foliage has been killed.’

Vinegar can also damage vegetation within the boundaries of the area where you are treating the weeds, so it is important to be careful where the solution goes.

Although vinegar is commonly found in households and considered safe for culinary use, undiluted or concentrated forms can cause skin and eye irritation if used incorrectly.

If you decide to use vinegar in your garden, it is advisable to wear proper protective clothing to avoid injury or irritation.

3. Cardboard

If you are looking for a solution to kill or remove weeds without the use of chemicals, cardboard may be your best choice

If you are looking for a solution to kill or remove weeds without the use of chemicals, cardboard may be your best choice.

John D. Thomas, owner of Backyard Garden Geek, told Homes & Gardens, “When planning new garden beds, or controlling weeds in your lawn, cardboard is the key to weed control.”

However, he warned: ‘It is thick enough to smother weeds, but unlike landscape fabric it will rot over time.’

According to John, this means that your plants will eventually draw nutrients from your native soil, while beneficial insects, such as earthworms, have the potential to move into garden beds.

To use cardboard effectively as a method of controlling weed growth, first fill a large box with cardboard before placing the box on top of the weeds you want to control and weighing it down with rocks or bricks.

Make sure that all sides of the cardboard are covered and that it does not come into direct contact with the ground or disturb other plants in your garden.

It can take up to a year for cardboard to completely break down, but this depends on the type you used.

Corrugated cardboard, which contains polyethylene, is highly resistant to decomposition, while cardboard made from recycled paper tends to break down more quickly.

Plant roots can still grow through cardboard, but only under certain conditions.

The cardboard should be moist enough for the roots to penetrate, and it should be placed in an area where there is no light or air circulation, which will prevent the plant from drying out before it has a chance to take root and start growing.

After a plant has started to grow through the cardboard, it helps to direct it to more water and light using some sort of support structure. This ensures that it does not become intertwined with other plants, while reducing the risk of weed growth.

People born on February 29 must decide whether to celebrate their birthday on February 28 or March 1 – although it is often joked that Leap Day babies are technically a quarter their own age.

It’s not unheard of for celebrities to shave a few years off their age to look younger, but leap year babies may jokingly claim that they’re doing it legitimately.

So who are the famous faces born on February 29 and what is their leap year age compared to the actual number of years they have been on this planet?

Eternal sisters Vernie and Easther Bennett have revealed their new bandmate after former members Louise Redknapp and Kelle Bryan left the group.

Vernie and Easther want to continue with the band’s reunion and have enlisted the help of new singer Christel Lakhdar.

In September 2023, Louise, 49, and Kelle, 48, pulled out of an Eternal reunion tour after Vernie and Easther refused to play any of the LBGTQ+ gigs they had planned amid claims the community is being ‘hijacked’ by the trans movement.

Who exactly is Christel Lakhdar? Read on below for everything you need to know about Eternal’s newest member.

Who is Christel Lakhdar?

Although she joined a pop group that enjoyed great success in the 1990s, Christel Lakhdar has had a relatively quiet career in comparison.

The singer-songwriter and actor has just over 2,400 followers on her Instagram account, with only three videos on her YouTube channel, one of which was a showreel uploaded in March 2018.

Speak with The mirrorChristel said: ‘I’ve been singing these songs ever since [I was] at a young age and feel like pinching myself as I take it all in.”

On New Year’s Day, Christel welcomed 2024 by outlining her goals for the year in a post on her Facebook page.

She wrote to her followers: ‘May this year be gentle, soothing and healing [and] full of laughter despite the storms (because there are always many)’.

“Be thankful for those who are happiest among us. Let us seize happiness’.

In another previous Facebook post on August 4, 2023, Christel revealed that she had not smoked in a year.

She wrote: ‘In the beginning there was chaos, as is often the case before profound transformations.

‘Smoking was just a symptom…And today I’m so damn proud of myself’.

The singer added that she was focused on ‘[rebuilding] on better foundations and [growing] with stronger roots.’

After planning an Eternal reunion last year with all four members, Vernie and her sister Easther had refused to play any of the LBGTQ+ gigs they had planned, claiming the community was being “hijacked” by the transmovement.

Shortly afterwards, Louise was accused of trying to get her former bandmates canceled by ‘misrepresenting’ their views.

Still, in a telling statement, Louise said: “I had always wanted to do a reunion with the girls. I have a lot of love for what we did together and me and Kelle are still the best of friends.”

Standing by her friend, Kelle added of her time in the band, “It changed my life. Obviously the music and the fans are so important.’

Although she joined a pop group that enjoyed great success in the 1990s, Christel has had a relatively quiet career in comparison.

Machine Gun Kelly surprised fans on Tuesday when he unveiled his dramatic new body art.

The 33-year-old Bloody Valentine hitmaker – real name Colson Baker – talso take to Instagram to introduce a blackout tattoo that covers his entire upper body.

The black ink envelops the Ohio native’s torso, while a few of his original tattoos are still visible through the holes along his arms and in the cross symbol etched on his chest.

As fans’ concerns mount, the rapper and rock singer, who is engaged to Megan Fox, released an emotionally charged new song on Wednesday titled Don’t Let Me Go, hinting that he had had a ‘breakdown’ before being inked.

The artist sings, “I wish I wasn’t listening like I wish they’d understand me someday / I had a breakdown and tatted my whole body but one line / Everything’s fine.”

His tattoo artist, Roxx, told TMZ that MGK’s existing tattoos no longer resonated with his current mindset, calling them “chaotic” — but what do some of them mean?

Machine Gun Kelly sent shockwaves among fans on Tuesday when he unveiled his dramatic new body art – but what do the rest of his tattoos mean?

1. MGK

PPerhaps the most striking of Kelly’s tattoos is the large MGK piece sprawled across his upper back in an ombre pink and blue color.

The rapper and singer has never shared any insight into this specific ink, but it is clear that it symbolizes his stage name, Machine Gun Kelly.

2. Anarchy symbol

Another of MGK’s most notable tattoos is the Anarchy “A” symbol in the center of his stomach.

He chose the design because it is a ‘very powerful statement’ about social reform.

However, the rock star revealed that his team wasn’t too happy with the piece.

He told TheDrop.fm in 2013: ‘Everyone was like, “No man! No way, man. You’re already kind of blacklisted in the industry, and you’re going to put that on your body. Now no corporate sponsors are going to fuck with you.”‘

He added: “I just got anarchy because it is a very strong statement about social reform. There are no damn rules. There is no code. You can’t tell me how to live my life. This is my own individuality and I wear it with pride.’

3. XXX

A second prominent AOn Kelly’s abdomen – and just above his crotch – is a red XXX sign, just below the words Almost Famous.

The design, to put it bluntly, serves as a warning to anyone thinking about getting intimate with the star.

He told TheDrop.fm: ‘It gives girls a fair warning of what they’re getting into. Some bad things are about to happen.”

4. 1984-inspired bell tower

On his upper left arm, MGK had a tattoo of a clock tower with one eye looking out, as an ode to George Orwell’s dystopian science fiction novel 1984.

The clock tower represents Big Brother looking down on tattooed silhouettes of a crowd of people below.

He said: ‘It’s the idea that Big Brother is watching you, and down here you see all the people rebelling against it. There are people here holding bats and stuff. And I am with the people. Keep your hands out of my pockets. I got this when I was 19.”

5. Salvador Dali artwork

More than half of Kelly’s back is covered in a rendition of artist Salvador Dali’s piece, “The Temptation of Saint Anthony,” which took about 50 to 60 hours to complete.

The colorful piece includes the golden cup of lust, a parade of elephants – one of which carries a naked woman – and the figure of St. Anthony kneeling in the lower left corner of the desert landscape while the sky above is shrouded in fiery clouds. .

Although the interpretation of the classic painting is quite subjective, Kelly believes it marks the repentance of sins and making amends before it is too late.

6. Hotel Diablo

In honor of his 2019 studio album of the same name, Kelly got the title “Hotel Diablo” inked in a dotted rectangular box on the back of his head.

7. Banksy ‘I Want Change’ artwork

Beneath his left ribcage, a famous Banksy artwork is etched onto Kelly’s skin, depicting a homeless man holding up a sign that reads: “Save your coins, I want change.”

8. Good and bad female figures

MGK has two tattoos of opposing female figures on either side of his shoulders, with one looking gentle and virtuous, draped in a calming blue dress, while the other has green skin, exciting hair and a sinister smile.

Kelly explained, “I only have two views on women. Some are the damn devil, and some are angels coming to help you.”

He added: “But it was only now that I realized that not all women are bad. NSome of the most beautiful people in my life are women.”

9. Locals only

One of the few tattoos still visible on Kelly’s now blacked-out upper body is the vibrant red phrase “LOCALS ONLY.”

The rapper and singer explained that the words are a tribute to his upbringing in Cleveland, Ohio, and the types of people he may resonate with more.

He said, ‘”Locals Only” means we only fuck with thorough assholes. If you come from where I’m from, and that doesn’t have to mean literally, it just happens that the people I work with are Cleveland type sh**, it’s not about the regional life.

“But if you come from where I come from, mentally and demographically, then I will fuck you. If you’re that kid who puts all those negatives aside and turns them into only positives, then I’m with you.”

“You’re one of those people I’m willing to embrace. I don’t embrace the outside. That’s what that is.’

10. Red double-decker London bus

In 2013, MGK was hit by a double-decker bus while crossing the street in Manchester, England.

To commemorate the experience, he had a red London vehicle – the most distinctive of English buses – tattooed on his side.

The inking of the accident scene was complete with broken windows, a stick figure to represent himself and the date of the unfortunate event: 5/14/2013.

He told GQ in 2019: ‘I make the one mistake every foreigner makes: crossing the street and looking the wrong way.’

‘This double-decker bus hit me so hard. My face was the first to be hit. All I remember is waking up and everyone screaming. I go to the hospital and there’s nothing wrong.’

Matthew Hardy, from Cheshire, carried out an online stalking and harassment campaign that lasted more than a decade.

His brutal online persecutions tore apart friendships and relationships – and even nearly ruined the wedding day of one of his victims.

Others lived in such fear that they slept with samurai swords and baseball bats next to their beds.

But despite terrorizing young women for more than a decade, Hardy was only given a nine-year prison sentence in January 2022.

As Can I Tell You A Secret airs on Netflix, FEMAIL looks at how Britain's worst cyberstalker avoided justice for 11 years.

Matthew Hardy, Britain's worst cyberstalker, went on an online tirade of stalking and harassment that lasted more than a decade. MailOnline looks at how he avoided justice for so long

When did Matthew Hardy's stalking start?

Hardy's cybercrime began when he was in high school in 2006.

While Facebook was still in its infancy, Hardy's stalking and harassing tendencies were also in its infancy.

The then-teenager had a hard time in high school, according to classmates, who said he was often teased and bullied.

Gina, who attended the same school in Northwich, said she often felt sorry for Hardy.

She said The guard in 2022: 'He was isolated, I always made an effort to say hello.'

But when his peers and young girls at area schools rushed to sign up for Facebook, Hardy began using the platform to stalk them.

According to the publication, he single-handedly stalked 25 girls from a school in Cheshire.

Melanie (not her real name), his first victim, said the girls at school soon realized that the anonymous person messaging them about cheating boyfriends was Hardy.

But everything came to a head when Hardy told Melanie that her late mother was having an affair.

Amy Bailey (pictured), also a student from Northwich, was just 16 when Hardy started harassing her in 2011. At one point, Hardy called her fifty times a day

Amy Bailey (pictured), also a student from Northwich, was just 16 when Hardy started harassing her in 2011. At one point, Hardy called her fifty times a day

While she told police she “couldn't take anymore” of Hardy's harassment, authorities said they couldn't do anything because it was online.

Amy Bailey, who was also a student from Northwich, was just 16 when Hardy started harassing her in 2011, bombarding her phone with 90 calls a day.

She told The Guardian: 'One time he said he saw me washing a car, another time he commented on the color of my top. I went in and started crying.”

However, when she told Cheshire Police about Hardy's stalking, she was ordered to delete her social media accounts and block his number.

That same year, Hardy was convicted of hacking and harassing another ex-classmate, Samantha Boniface.

Two years later, in 2013, he pleaded guilty to harassing and hacking Amy Bailey and was given a restraining order and a suspended sentence.

Bailey reported Hardy to police three times for violating his restraining order: once in 2014, again in 2015 and again in 2017.

Hardy's convictions didn't seem to deter him when he adopted another victim in 2013: Gina Martin.

She woke up daily to new messages from people who had interacted with an impersonation account Hardy had created of her.

His constant rants began to make Martin afraid to visit her parents' house, as she knew he lived only five minutes away.

She also eventually reported Hardy to Cheshire Police in 2016.

He was arrested under caution in September 2016, but in April 2017 the Crown Prosecution Service declined to proceed with the case.

These were not the only women from the area who were tormented; Hardy's periodic harassment of Northwich pupils ultimately lasted 25 years.

But his disturbing tendencies didn't stop there.

Hardy cast his net wider, stalking women in the area and then women he had never even met.

How could Hardy avoid justice for eleven years?

Abby Furness (pictured) said she felt 'really stupid' when she first reported Hardy to Kent Police in July 2020. He continued to stalk her until September 2021

Abby Furness (pictured) said she felt 'really stupid' when she first reported Hardy to Kent Police in July 2020. He continued to stalk her until September 2021

The serial perpetrator began targeting women with large social media followers, with whom he had no connection whatsoever.

Among these women targeted by Hardy was Zoe Hallam, who was the first to receive a message saying “Can I tell you a secret?” on Hardy's Snapchat in 2018.

These messages then turned into silent phone calls, with Hardy challenging Hallam for crying in fear on the phone.

Hardy even went out of his way to pose as her partner's father online and have inappropriate conversations with teenage girls, tarnishing his reputation as a doctor.

Hallam felt she was responsible for smearing the reputation of her partner's father – a sentiment shared by many of Hardy's victims.

Eventually it became so frightening for Hallam that she slept with a samurai sword next to her bed.

In April 2019 she reported him to Lincolnshire Police, but they claimed there was nothing they could do.

They said they could only track figures for 'high profile' cases such as rape or murder.

Abby Furness, whose relationships were also torn apart by Hardy's online torment, was made to feel like she was wasting police time when she spoke out.

Since he started stalking her in 2019, Hardy had sent intimate photos of her to her boss, destroyed her relationship and even impersonated her online.

But when she finally reported him in July 2020, Furness said Kent police suggested she was overreacting.

Furness admitted she felt “really stupid” after the phone call, recalling, “They said, 'You too Real Do you think you are in danger? Because we're twenty minutes away from you and something might happen here.'

Although Hardy continued to harass her until September 2021, she felt there was no point in contacting authorities again after her initial correspondence with Kent Police.

When was Matthew Hardy caught?

Hardy had been terrorizing women for more than a decade before Cheshire's PC Kevin Anderson (pictured) was assigned to the case in December 2019

Lia Marie Hambly (pictured had documented over 700 pages of communications from Hardy, which was a huge boost in helping PC Anderson strengthen the case

Hardy was arrested a total of ten times before he was finally put behind bars.

When Cheshire's PC Kevin Anderson was assigned to the case in December 2019, his decade-long tirades of stalking and harassment would finally come to an end.

While searching Cheshire Police's systems, Anderson made a disturbing discovery.

More than a hundred logs about Hardy had been submitted to police from 62 separate victims.

While he was in the process of contacting Hardy's victims, he noticed it was a former paralegal named Lia Marie Hambly.

Hambly had documented more than 700 pages of communications from Hardy, which was a huge boost in helping Anderson strengthen the case.

In January 2022, Mathew Hardy was sentenced to nine years in prison after pleading guilty to harassment and stalking, citing fear of violence and intimidation.

Although only nine cases were considered during Hardy's sentencing, the final number of his victims is likely in the hundreds.

Anderson told the Evening standard that there were probably 'too many to comprehend'.

While Emma tours schools in the Midlands in a beat-up minibus, Dexter roams the Italian capital before meeting his mother at a boutique hotel.

Dex meets her at a rooftop bar at Bio Hotel Raphael on Largo Febo, which overlooks the 17th-century Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi, before strolling through a series of parks and bars on the streets of the Trastevere district.

Lead director Molly Manners knew that One Day's Rome in episode 2 had to feel colorful and vibrant and contrast with Emma's lackluster drama experience in Wolverhampton.

He said: 'We wanted to get a real sense of place and scale, but in no way be obvious or clichéd in terms of the places we went to.'

Paros island, Greece

In Episode 4, Emma and Dexter go on a drama-filled vacation to Paros, where they made the decision to cancel their island-hopping plans around Greece and stay on the island.

Emma's plans to keep things platonic are put to the test when the hotel assumes they are a couple and gives them a room with a double bed.

The charming Greek destination is located in the heart of the Cyclades archipelago in the Aegean Sea.

Paros is also home to picturesque villages, with the island's capital, Parikia, full of whitewashed buildings, cobbled streets and a Cycladic charm for viewers to catch a glimpse of.

The series was also filmed on the island's beaches and in the port of Naoussa.

What is UNRWA: Israel's claims that 12 U.N. agency employees were involved in the Oct. 7 Hamas attack have prompted several Western countries to cut funding and reignited debate over Gaza's largest humanitarian aid provider.

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees, known as UNRWA, employs thousands of people and provides essential aid and services to millions of people in the Middle East. In Gaza, it was the main provider of food, water and shelter to civilians during the war between Israel and Hamas.

Israel has long spoken out against the agency, accusing it of tolerating or even collaborating with Hamas and perpetuating the 75-year-old Palestinian refugee crisis. The Israeli government has accused Hamas and other militant groups of siphoning aid and using UN facilities for military purposes.

UNRWA denies these allegations and says it has taken swift action against the workers accused of taking part in the attack. The United States and eight other Western countries that together accounted for more than half of UNRWA's 2022 budget have nevertheless suspended funding to the organization.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres says 2 million Palestinians in Gaza, or 87% of the population, rely on UNRWA services, which will be cut as early as February if funding is not restored.

WHAT IS UNRWA AND WHY WAS IT CREATED?

The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East was established to provide assistance to the estimated 700,000 Palestinians who fled or were expelled from what is now Israel during the 1948 war surrounding the country's founding.

Palestinians say the refugees and their descendants, who now number nearly six million in the Middle East, have the right to return to their homes.

Israel has refused to do this because if the right of return were fully implemented it would result in a Palestinian majority within its borders. The fate of refugees and their descendants has been one of the thorniest issues in the peace process, which stalled in 2009.

UNRWA runs schools, health clinics, infrastructure projects and aid programs in refugee camps that now resemble dense urban neighborhoods in Gaza, the Israeli-occupied West Bank, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan. In Gaza alone, the organization has 13,000 employees, the vast majority of whom are Palestinians.

In Gaza, where some 85% of the 2.3 million inhabitants have fled their homes, more than 1 million people are sheltering in UNRWA schools and other facilities.

WHAT DO ISRAEL AND OTHER CRITICS SAY ABOUT UNRWA?

Israel accuses UNRWA of turning a blind eye as Hamas, which has ruled Gaza since 2007, diverts aid intended for civilians and fighting from and around UN facilities, several of which were hit during the war. It has also exposed Hamas tunnels running next to or under UNRWA facilities and accuses the agency of teaching hatred of Israel in its schools.

UNRWA denies these allegations. It says it has no ties to Hamas or other militant groups, and that it thoroughly investigates all allegations of misconduct and holds staff accountable. It says it shares lists of all its personnel with Israel and other host countries.

The twelve employees are believed to have taken part in the surprise attack on October 7, in which Hamas fighters from Gaza overran Israel's extensive border defenses. Other militants joined in the subsequent destruction through nearby communities, killing 1,200 people, mostly civilians. About 250 others, including children, were captured and dragged into Gaza.

UN chief Guterres said nine of the accused UNRWA staff had been immediately dismissed, one had been confirmed dead and the other two had yet to be identified. He said everyone will be held accountable, including through criminal charges.

Neither the details of the allegations nor the evidence supporting them have been made public.

UNRWA condemned the October 7 attack and called for the release of all hostages. Earlier this month, before the latest allegations, UNRWA Commissioner General Philippe Lazzarini announced an external review of the agency to determine which allegations are “true or false” and “what is politically motivated.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said the agency should be closed. But his government has continued to allow UNRWA to operate in the West Bank and Gaza, providing basic services that might otherwise be Israel's responsibility as an occupying power. No other entity could quickly fill the gap if UNRWA were to cease operations.

WHAT DO THE FUNDING SAVINGS MEAN FOR GAZA?

The United States, the first country to suspend funding, is UNRWA's largest donor, providing the country with $340 million in 2022. The United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland and Finland have also provided assistance suspended .

The nine countries together provided almost 60% of UNRWA's budget in 2022. It was not immediately clear when and how the suspension of aid would affect the organization's day-to-day operations. Norway and Ireland said they would continue to fund UNRWA, while other donors have not yet made a decision.

The war has plunged Gaza into a serious humanitarian crisis. One in four Palestinians in the area faces famine, according to UN officials, who say relief operations are being hampered by the fighting and Israeli restrictions.

“Our humanitarian operation, on which two million people depend as a lifeline in Gaza, is collapsing,” Lazzarini wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

He was shocked that countries would suspend aid “based on alleged behavior of a few individuals, and as the war continues, needs increase and famine threatens.”

According to Gaza's health ministry, more than 26,000 Palestinians have been killed in the war, most of them women and children, and more than 64,400 others have been injured. It does not distinguish between civilians and fighters in its toll, but says most of the dead were women and children.

The death toll includes more than 150 UNWRA staff, the largest number of aid workers the UN has lost in a single conflict.

The long-awaited return of hit ITV skating show Dancing On Ice returns on Sunday.

A number of big names, including Coronation Street's Adam Thomas and Love Island's Amber Davies, have laced up their skates in the hope of being crowned the new champions.

The pair are joined by S Club singer Hannah Spearritt, radio presenter and former Big Brother contestant Adele Roberts, actress and TV presenter Claire Sweeney, comedian Lou Sanders, Made In Chelsea star Miles Nazaire and ex EastEnders Ricky Norwood.

Boxer Ricky Hatton, Olympian Greg Rutherford and Emmerdale actress Roxy Shahidi will also skate on the ITV show.

But what do the star-studded contestants get when they appear on a hit skate show?

The highly anticipated return of hit ITV skating show Dancing On Ice returns on Sunday, but what will the star-studded contestants get when they appear on the hit show?

Each celebrity will receive compensation for appearing on the ITV show alongside their professional skating partners.

During the nine-week series, the stars will hope to impress judges Oti Mabuse, Ashley Banjo, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean and viewers to stay in the competition.

However, ITV has previously confirmed that there will be no cash prize for the celebrity who wins Dancing On Ice.

But the skater will get a trophy to take home after being crowned the winner.

Holly Willoughby will make her big television return to present the new series alongside Deal or No Deal presenter Stephen Mulhern.

Stephen will replace Phillip Schofield, who left ITV last year after admitting on This Morning to an affair with a younger male former colleague.

Holly also left popular daytime show This Morning in October 2023 after 14 years on the bench.

The bottom line is that Eddie The Eagle could be the one to beat Edwards on Dancing On Ice this year as he is revealed to be a top contender ahead of the show's launch date.

The British ski jumper, 59, who finished last at the 1988 Winter Olympics, has made a huge impression in rehearsals alongside professional skater Vicky Ogden.

A show insider told The Sun: 'Eddie is keen to play down his chances but he looks really good and could be this year's player to beat.'

Eddie was brought in as a last-minute replacement after Gogglebox star Stephen Lustig-Webb broke his ankle in the first week of rehearsals and had to withdraw from the competition.

Eddie, whose real name is Michael Edwards, said he feels the pressure to do well on the ITV show but insisted his skiing experience is of no use on the ice rink.

He explained, “When I ski, I automatically put myself in a certain position. That position is not a good position for skating, that's why I feel like I'm falling on my face.'

The Olympian was announced as a participant in the speed skating competition after Gogglebox star Stephen broke his ankle and had to withdraw.

The star had suffered a freak accident during training and would be on crutches for the next three months.

Dancing On Ice's bad luck doesn't end there as West End star Amber Davies, who will appear on the show, revealed earlier this month that she had torn a leg muscle.
