Confronting footage shows the moment a gang of thugs are heard laughing after an elderly man who cannot swim was pushed off a pier.

A 14-year-old boy has been charged after allegedly pushing the fisherman, 79, off the edge of Victoria’s Mornington Pier about 11.30pm on Sunday.

In the clip uploaded to social media, the teens can be heard egging each other on before someone pushes the man backward into the dark water below.

The teens can be heard laughing loudly as they run away from the pier, with someone shouting “yes the boys” as they escape.

It is understood the man could not swim and had to be rescued by three other spectators who were on the pier at the time.

The older man had to be rescued by bystanders

A 14-year-old boy has been charged after pushing the fisherman, 79, off the edge of Victoria’s Mornington Pier about 11.30pm on Sunday.

He was not seriously injured in the fall and was not known to the three teenagers.

Victoria Police said a 14-year-old boy from Crib Point had been charged with reckless endangerment and unlawful assault.

He will appear in juvenile court at a later date.

Victoria Police told Daily Mail Australia the investigation was ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.

Rescuers are pleading with swimmers to stop jumping from a notorious beach cliff after a wave of people were injured at the scene.

The Mount Martha Life Saving Club has urged everyone visiting The Pillars on the Mornington Peninsula, near Melbourne, to stay safe after three people suffered life-changing injuries in the first two weeks of 2024.

A 22-year-old woman may have been left paralyzed after jumping off a cliff and suffering serious spinal injuries when another swimmer landed on top of her on January 12.

Another 12-year-old girl broke both legs and an ankle on New Year's Day after jumping in at low tide and the day before a man broke his leg and injured his spine in the same way.

The council has tried to install fencing around the cliff, but lifesavers say this has so far been ineffective as the area is unsupervised and receives around 500 visitors every day.

Mount Martha Life Saving Club Captain Chris Quinn said all the injuries have one thing in common: people jumping at low tide.

“People come down when it suits them, which may not suit Mother Nature and it's low tide,” he says told Yahoo.

'The challenge now is that it gets so much attention on social media: a lot of people just come to it who have no knowledge.'

Mr Quinn said his main concern was that tourists visiting the Columns do not understand the dangers of jumping into the ocean from such a height.

Locals who have been doing it for years'have a better understanding of the risks, he added.

The 'main message' Mr Quinn wanted to convey is that people should not jump off cliffs at all, but he admitted most swimmers won't listen.

Instead, lifesavers have tried to level the playing field between locals who understand when it's safe to jump and those who don't.

Mr Quin implored swimmers to 'look before you leap'.

'Look at the depth of the water, look how shallow it is. “If you are going to jump, make sure you do it in an area where people are free,” he said.

The last swimmer to injure herself was rescued by other people who saw what happened and ran to help her float as emergency services arrived.

Due to her suspected back injury, the woman was unable to move in the water and had to be carefully lifted onto a lifeguard's boat.

Another woman, 22, had to be hoisted up by other swimmers when someone jumped off the cliffs and landed on her on January 12, seriously injuring her spine

Sarah Jacka was visiting Mount Martha on New Year's Day when she injured herself as her father, Chris, watched from a distance.

He filmed the 12-year-old performing a pin-drop jump from The Pillars, which resulted in three broken bones in her legs and one in her ankle.

Chris later revealed that he didn't realize anything was wrong until he heard it from his daughter 'harrowing' screams after she landed.

The Year 7 student said she dreamed of becoming an Olympic diver until the accident, which will take six months of healing.

In response to the latest injuries, including a 24-year-old man who seriously injured himself the day before Sarah's jump, lifesavers have brainstormed with the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council on how to keep people safe.

Mr Quinn said the issue has proven 'problematic' as the area is not patrolled and is a 'radio communications black spot'.

Lifesavers have asked the council to consider installing a water depth marker so swimmers can make 'informed decisions' about the dangers of jumping.

A promising high school diver thought she was paralyzed after jumping off a cliff at low tide at a popular surfing spot.

Sarah Jacka, 12, broke three bones in her legs and one in her ankle when she performed a pin-drop jump from the cliffs of The Pillars in Mount Martha along the Mornington Peninsula on New Year’s Day.

Her father Chris was filming the dive from the family’s boat when he heard his daughter’s ‘harrowing’ screams.

The year seven pupil was rescued by surf lifeguards and taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital, where she underwent surgery on Tuesday after her swelling went down.

Now Sarah and her father are repeating the message from rescue teams to try to prevent others from taking the same risk they did when she jumped from The Pillars.

When Sarah hit the ocean floor, she immediately lost all feeling in her legs and assumed she would be paralyzed.

“I was like, ‘oh my god, I’ve paralyzed myself.’ I couldn’t feel my legs at all,” she says told 9News.

Sarah was rushed to Children’s Hospital, where X-rays showed she had suffered bilateral fractures below both knees and a further three in her right ankle.

Once her condition stabilized, she was transferred to Epworth Hospital in Richmond for reconstructive surgery.

Chris praised his daughter for being a “trooper” during the recovery process, which is expected to last the next six months.

Sarah has now returned home and uses her father’s mechanical trolley to travel around the house while her legs are in position.

Before the accident, she was considered an elite athlete and was a former gymnast who competed on the state diving team.

“It’s kind of sad because I’m so active and it’s really hard not being able to exercise,” she said.

Days before Sarah shattered her legs, a 24-year-old man had to be rescued after jumping from the same area and landing on his neck.

A surf rescue team was sent to rescue the man who was semi-conscious but unable to walk at the time.

One member of the team said these incidents were becoming more frequent and each incident required a specialist group to navigate the difficult cliff areas.

The Mount Martha cliff is Crown land and the council said it had placed ‘do not jump’ signs near The Pillars to prevent further such incidents from happening.

Sarah said she won’t be doing the jump again once she’s recovered, and Chris said the two will now encourage others to think twice before trying it themselves.

“It’s not worth the injury, it’s not worth the risk for that 30 seconds of adrenaline,” Chris said.

Horror as a 10-passenger bus pulls into two houses after hitting a truck

  • Bus drove into two houses
  • Two people were rushed to hospital

A bus drove into two houses and two people were rushed to hospital, including a 17-year-old boy who had some of his teeth knocked out in the collision.

The vehicle struck a cement truck at 11am on Wednesday before plowing into homes on Safety Beach, on Melbourne’s Mornington Peninsula.

About a dozen people were on board the bus, while two more were in the truck.

No one was in the homes at the time, but passengers had to be freed from the wreckage.

The bus driver, a 44-year-old man and the 17-year-old boy were taken to Frankston Hospital – both with non-life-threatening injuries.

Another passenger suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics, Victoria Police Chief Constable Jody Clayton said.

The truck driver, a 32-year-old man, was unharmed and is assisting police in their investigation.

A Victoria SES spokesperson said they had been called to the scene due to “several suspected entrapments”.

They remain on site while they work to remove the bus.

Sharon, whose 17-year-old son was on the bus on his way to work, said the teen lost some of his teeth in the collision.

“The bus was traveling towards Dromana Parade towards Portsea and a lorry came out of a side road and T-leg rammed the bus and rammed the bus. The bus then drove into two houses,” she said 3AW.

Shocking crime scene photos show a corner of a house completely destroyed after the bus plowed into it.

A wooden fence was also blown apart with posts scattered around the yard.

Senior Constable Clayton said the impact of the collision between the bus and lorry caused the bus to crash through the fence of a house and cut off the roof.

It then plowed through a border fence into a second home, causing “major structural damage.”

Police will continue to investigate the incident.
